bk_market September 7, 2007 September 7, 2007 Im going to run my tank BB for maybe a week then add maybe 2 bags of this sand in. Question is how live are these sand? Do I have to rinse it or it will take away all the live things in it? How much of a cycle will I get by adding 2 bags of 20lbs each to my 90g? Please advise http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~CS0790.html Thanx Hung
extreme_tooth_decay September 7, 2007 September 7, 2007 I used some of this to seed my tank when I was getting started. I don't know how live it is, but I definitely wouldn't rinse it. tim
jnguyen4007 September 7, 2007 September 7, 2007 Hung, From what I heard from other folks and read, save your money. Live sand just isn't worth the money to spend on. James
flowerseller September 7, 2007 September 7, 2007 From experience only, and nothing I've read or heard, THIS STUFF WAS AWESOME. I started a 20 QT tank with one bag of the course media stuff, 10g from my tank and 10g premixed water and then added 9 clowns, 12 bangai cardinals and a wrasse. Not one fish develpoed any signs of stress. 3 clowns, the wrasse and 3 bangais left in the few next days and flew to WA . All did fine and were packed in that water w/ air from my compressor. DO NOT RINSE this is live bacteria sand, not to be confussed with "live sand" with critters.
AndrewB September 7, 2007 September 7, 2007 We love the products and highly recommend them. Many of our customers have had relatively uncured live rock complete the nitrogen cycle in a week or less using the product line. We usually recommend that it be split with the dry counterpart to mitigate cost.
