Yep, you did.

You should actually be careful eating them overseas. Some species, specifically Lysiosquillids (which I believe those are), can tolerate terrible water conditions and may be very toxic.

more humans eating more of earths creatures....

Thanks, I never thought about that!! After I saw them I just had to try it...

They are BIG, slightly shy of a foot. They are well stocked by the sea food market too. I also ate and saw a lot of interesting things there... they even have live and healthy cuttle fish for you to pick and eat. I cannot believe we are paying $100 for a live one here when it's viewed as everyday food over there.

Nothin wrong with eating animals on this good earth...

Dude BTW that looks like an awesome meal!! haha I saw this same dish on the travel show called Bazaar foods with Andrew Zimmer

Also i visit the zoo recently and I see a really nice mantis shrimp in there. Anyone here see it also? i wonder what species is that?

The mantis shrimp is so beautiful and big. The arylic tank he is in is so thick too. He was attacking me through the glass as i put my finger on the tank.

The ones that he ate are of a "spearer" variety, their raptorial appendages are evolved to ****** fish out of the water column. The ones that can break glass are "smashers" which have evolved clubs on their raptorial appendages for bashing open other crustaceans.

About the mantis at the national aquarium, it is probably an O. scyllarus if it is a large colorful smasher.

It could also be a H. californiensis, which are the largest species of smasher, but they live in deep water adn are more difficult to keep than the O. scyllarus.

Couldnt the same thing be said about all of us keeping fish in small tanks when they should be in the ocean ?

I'd say they are more likely to get eaten in the ocean. By humans OR other fish.

Great info about Mantis, thanks! I have always wanted a clown mantis, but feared for my fingers... :)

Yes, ours is a "smashing" O. scyllarus like the one above. I don't know if the National Aquarium downtown has a mantis or not...???
