rancor1 January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 I've got a dogfaced puffer intended for a mainly fish only tank in my living room. I know they aren't reef safe, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any corals or inverts that I could add to the tank that might spice it up a little without a high probability of becoming snackage.
dbartco January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 probably sarcophytons and leathers, palythoa maybe. But I have no first hand experience. At least it wouldn't be expensive to try....
ridetheducati January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 I am looking for a Porc Puffer. Did you see any where you picked up your DF?
rancor1 January 26, 2007 Author January 26, 2007 I am looking for a Porc Puffer. Did you see any where you picked up your DF? I actually got the dog face when I bought out a guys system this spring. He's been in 29 while my LR cures, but he's going to get too big for it to be a long term home. Foster and Smith lists them as a species they carry, but don't have any available now. Actually, checked their carribean vendor - Etropicals: http://www.etropicals.com/product/prod_Dis...amp;pCatId=1250 They've got one for $15. I've ordered from them before and had good luck. Actually - if you decide to buy from there - try putting together a group buy. I might be in for some inverts.
extreme_tooth_decay January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 My porcupine never touched zoos, mushrooms, leathers, LPS....
jamesbuf January 26, 2007 January 26, 2007 the only invert that I think would be safe would be a cowrie. Many people with aggressive FOWLR tanks use them with great success.
Grav January 27, 2007 January 27, 2007 GSPs, Atlantic anemones I dunno about Xenia, I'd donate you some just to find out!! Tell more about water quality and light. It matters not what the puffer will do if Nitrates are 120 and you have a 15w NO bulb.
Guest ethandvm January 27, 2007 January 27, 2007 My porc in my 120 hasnt touched any of my corals (green star polyp, mushroom, frogspawn, zoos,) he is too busy begging for his next meal anytime someone comes within 10ft of the tank....
Jager January 28, 2007 January 28, 2007 dog face puffers and corals do NOT mix. that being said anything you put in with it will be sampled at some point or outright eaten. so only put corals in with it you can deal with losing.
Almon January 28, 2007 January 28, 2007 I have many excess corals that fit your requirements, specifically Sinularia, Sarchophytons, and green mushrooms. I will be happy to sell you some at very reasonable prices. Cheaper by the dozen...... Almon I've got a dogfaced puffer intended for a mainly fish only tank in my living room. rancor1 January 30, 2007 Author January 30, 2007 Appreciate the advice and offers. I may take you up on some. The tank is brand new and the live rock is curing now...I'm actually going home today to finish up the sump - I'm going to run a refugium underneath to grow forage the tangs in my 90 gallon reef. Anyway - thanks for the advice -
