madmax7774 January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 I am trying to decide what color to go with when I upgrde my tank. I am going with paint, but I can't decide between dark blue or black....
rooroo January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 Black paper, the stuff from my LFS. I used black because my overflow and powerheads are black, so this hides the equipment a bit better.
HowardofNOVA January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 My 90g is 3 sided viewable with a black background and I love it! Wouldn't change it for nothing, unless I had about 500 GALLONS behind it!!!
howser January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 My 90G is viewable three sides as well and has black painted background. Looks GREAT! I love it. In fact, the 72G Bowfront I'm getting is black too -- looks fantastic!
dzekunoi January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 I have black plastic wall on the back. It looks really good when I scrape all the coraline algea off.
Sugar Magnolia January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 Eric has a good point - eventually it'll be pink, unless you are a coraline hater and scrape all that's visible. I've had one painted black, but my cube just has a black fiberboard behind it now, as does my 2.5.

I've had one painted black, but my cube just has a black fiberboard behind it now, as does my 2.5. Unless you have an urchin. Mine stays blue, with some pink spots where it misses.
tygger January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 Mine is dark blue. I have coraline covering almost 90% of the rock, but only spots on the back wall. If I had to do it again, I'd go with black. I like that contrast.
Jenny January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 Eric has a good point - eventually it'll be pink, unless you are a coraline hater and scrape all that's visible. I've had one painted black, but my cube just has a black fiberboard behind it now, as does my 2.5. Yeah that's me! No background and scrape the coralline that the urchins miss. Gives the tank a lot more depth than what blue or black will give you IMO
TROLL January 16, 2007 January 16, 2007 I have black plastic cover from LFS. It usually take a while for coralline to completely cover the background. It's good for now, serve as a good contrast for all livestocks in yout tank A lot of folk went with painted background, that's cool but a hassle when selling the tank especially to someone who doesn't want painted background.
Jon Lazar January 17, 2007 January 17, 2007 Mine started out black, but I changed to this across the entire back of my tank: I'm careful to keep it away from the rock and corals though.
jason the filter freak January 17, 2007 January 17, 2007 I got my tank from chris... painted on blue background. It was the same color as the walls in my room... Kinda creepy. The olny problems with back grounds that aren't painted on is salt creep getting inbetween the tank and the back ground.
