  1. Thanks guys, I have the clearner shrimp and I've done the FW dip. We'll keep our fingers crossed!
  2. First off, I'll try to get some pictures....but until then: I have a large yellow tang that, as of this morning, has some black spots on it. Looks like about the size of pepper and they are raised (not actual scales turning black). From the research I've done, it looks like black ick, which as I understand is propogated by worms. What can I do to treat the fish and the tank? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, Howser
  3. Looks great Gio -- keep it up!
  4. Ah -- very true. Still an excellent price.
  5. The link I gave you was for NEW bulbs.
  6. Does Ebay count? http://cgi.ebay.com/250W-14k-HQI-Metal-Hal...1QQcmdZViewItem
  7. Thanks -- I'll probably take the plunge since that's the fish my son really wants. But I thought I'd do a little research before I tell him "yes". Thanks for the feedback, I'd love to hear from anyone that has one!
  8. Sorry to resurrect this thread, but did you find the clowns? If so, from where? I'm looking for a couple myself!
  9. Wow -- that should be an awesome setup. I'm all for plug-n-play, as long as the plugs always work
  10. Maybe I missed it - but what size tank is this for?
  11. Yea -- much to my dismay. I just went and played with them a little, I can turn the valve and produce a little less airflow and still get some bubbles. I'll have to see if that amount of bubbles still provides enough to skim. If not, then I'm all for trying new ideas. It's past the point of annoying, the fish even have earplugs...
  12. Hi everyone, Does anyone have experience with this fish in a reef tank? I have mostly softies and I'm wondering how this fish will do with them. Any experiences you can share would be great!

Troll makes some good points. Also, remember that the canister (even if you don't use it normally) is great when cleaning up some sand storms caused by the incessant urge to "change just one thing"
  14. Interesting idea, I have the valve to regulate airflow. When I turn the airflow off -- so there's no air, it gets very quiet. So I'll try the 8' long hose to see if that quiet's it down. Grav, that's a pretty intersting idea -- I'll try my good old Gatorade bottle and see if that helps!
  15. Hi Everyone, I have a CPR BakPak Dual Pak skimmer on my 90G with two MJ 1200's powering it. It's really loud and I think that most of the noise is from the MJ's pulling in the air. Wondering if anyone has one and/or knows of a way to quiet it down. The tank is very quiet except for the skimmer and it's driving me NUTS! Thanks!
  16. Yea -- I saw that too. Right now in my 90 I have 5 MJ 1200's for flow and 2 powering a HOB skimmer. So my tank hovers at 80 almost all the time. Bad thing is that during the summer it's gonna be WAY too hot so I'm wondering if I can go this route (use fewer of them) and save my tank from boiling. Any opinions?
  17. This has the mods -- http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...939#post9025939
  18. Nice job on the tank. Let me know if you ever want to sell the skimmer you're replacing. Also, just cause I know someone else will ask anyway, please post some pics of the sump area. Would like to see how you have it all plumbed.
  19. This was my first meeting, and while I didn't get to meet too many people, I had a great time. Thanks to everyone for setting it up and for all of those that went out of their way to say hi and introduce themselves.

What are you aiming for? If your tank is 23 gallons (plus a gallon or so in the canister) just fill the rest up with RO water. You should be in the sweet spot. (It not, just wait for a little evaporation and put saltwater back in, that will slowly raise the SG). If you're doing only fish, they'll do well at a lower SG, if you're doing inverts, they'll like it higher.

Here's my two cents on the canisters. Good: Add flow, provide a good method by which to introduce things like carbon (if and when you choose), plus gives you a good failsafe should something else fail from a cleaning perspective. Assuming you're worried about flooding, Canisters provide a good way around that. Bad: People forget about them, and don't clean them. Causing them to harbor nitrates and other bad things. I have two in my 90 gallon tank and I like them. It's a simple way to go if you're so inclined.
  22. Let's just say that if I do, I can' tell. It's under the sand and I'm not looking up from the bottom just cause it scares me I've been good so far, knock on wood
