Sugar Magnolia November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 Good info to know. I wasn' t aware of that this type of snail could be so destructive. Do you have any of these in your tank? http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-11/mg/index.php
dschflier November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 Thanks for the post I bought some of them awhile back. Very informative.
steveoutlaw November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 (edited) Well that's just great!!!! I've only got about 200 of those in my tank. Looks like it's time to start weeding them out. Anybody want to buy some Trigger food?? Edited November 6, 2006 by steveoutlaw
dzekunoi November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 And I was so happy having them in my tank... Good I have blue-legged hermits who hunt them occasionally!
gastone November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 For years Dr. Ron has been saying that these guys have no place in our tropical reef systems due to the fact that they are collected in sub 70 degree water. Throw in the flukes and the predation... what a nightmare. I do believe that I have one in my tank that came in on a piece of liverock I purchased during a tank breakdown. Thank God I have only 1 and not 200 a la Steve. Garrett.
BeltwayBandit November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 Thank God I have only 1 and not 200 a la Steve. Garrett. Yeah I'm definately glad that I'm not in Steve's shoes right now! That would stink to have over 200 of those things.
steveoutlaw November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 (edited) You guys are all heart!! I originally got 350 for my 210g tank. Right now I'd say that I'm down to about 150-200 (I see a lot of hermits sporting new shells). So my question is has anybody had these in their tank long term with no ill effects? dzekunoi November 6, 2006 November 6, 2006 I have them for a yesr or so with no visible ill affect - not too long time. . Though population of other snail declined. Can not be sure to blame the Ilyanassa.
jason the filter freak November 7, 2006 November 7, 2006 These are the snails that burrow in the sand correct or no...
modelrr November 7, 2006 November 7, 2006 I ordered 75 for my 55g reef and somehow ended up with 130 ... I guess I'll be using them as fish food once I get my predatory tank going
magnetic1 November 30, 2006 November 30, 2006 wow... good thing my Neon Dottyback likes to pick at them. Now if only I could figure a way to get the Dottyback out after he eats all the snails
