Mushrooms are doing great. Still wondering about those weird clear/glowing under actinic shrooms. I cant find any ID of any sort. They have not done much. I am going to start moving them around ie; more light/less light and see if I can get some response from them. Having the most fun w/ duncan head. He is growing already. Thanx Sonny
  2. I had a green bubble tip anem for about 3 months under PC's 6 X 96 W mix of actinic, daylight and mixed current bulbs. (Note this is on a 150 gal 30" deep to sand) After the 3 months he stopped eating and began to shrink away. I convinced a friend to come over who had just added 150 W MH, to come and take away the anem. before there was nothing left. Within two weeks under MH he was fully entended and eating well. I guess my experience under Power compacts was not favorable. I had a similar experience with a clam. (Also note I have just upgraded to t-5's anybody want to buy my PowerCompacts?)
  3. Folks, (Especially you Chris [EVIL GRIN]) I look at the tank tour thing as a chance to see other peoples set up and to meet other fish friends. After I look @ the TOTM I wonder what the heck I am doing inviting others to see my set up. Same with Brian who I wonder if he will get water in his tank build in three weeks? Or if I really will get my t-5s installed in time. Nevertheless, its a chance to get together socially and share fish interests. I realize there are people far more advanced than I am with bigger/better systems, but everyone starts somewhere. Besides I get tired of driving to rural Virginia {another evil grin} to see fish and visit with friends. Its time for them to come to DC! Any any excuse for a party!

  6. I am not sure about ceramic tiles. I guess depends on the type; nonglazed etc. I have purchased the sheets of tumbled marble tiles, peeled off the backing and stored them in my toilet tank (back part) for a couple months, then into my sump for a bit and then kinda pulled them out as I need. I am not sure about the clay composition or the glazes on ceramics...... Should work I would think????
  7. Thanks to Brian Ward for tanksitting over Thanksgiving. It is so great to have members that can help each other out.
  8. Dont think I can claim this one.....

I find it funny that another LFS is closed on Sunday and Sonny has so many requests he opens on a Sunday. I guess thats what customer service is all about and why people will support you..... U Rock Sonny.
  10. Phil, I have mentioned you to a couple of people, but have no way of knowing if it was a contact lead for you. Bob
  11. I have set up a new 24 gal. aquapod that I am using for a frag tank. 150 W MH lighting. I am starting to get various algae growth. I am appreciating the fact that my chemistry is very stable without fish and feeding other than DT's. I would however like to put something in that will start to nibble on the various algae. I had a yellow tang suggested and I know a lawnmower bleny is a possibility. I feel the tank is to small for a tang. Any other suggestions I may not have thought of????? Happy Thanksgiving to all....

Bob and I even stopped at another LFS on the way back home. Can't remember the name. It was an off the beaten path little LFS but was a real gem! The SW tanks were pristine and the livestock was very healthy. Other store was Aquatic Creations located from Dave H.'s web page. Its always a good day to find a new fishen' hole. Bob
  13. UPDATE Wrasse seems to be doing well. Looks like he has a cloudy eye but is making it around and eating ok. All the spines seem to be gone. Luckily for us nature frequently takes care of her own.
  14. Not really sure if this is the case but last nite I saw my fairy wrasse with what looked like a bunch of small spines (maybe 8 or 9) in one eye and two on a gill cover. I cant imagine what this could be other than from a bristleworm (I have quite a few). Because they are so small/fine I doubt I will be able to remove. Will I loose this fish? Will the fish loose an eye? Will the spines eventually fall out or dissolve? Does anyone have any other thoughts or experiences along this line? Thanx in advance for any experiences.

Me too..... got there at 9:30 AM (Chip I had a whole wheat glazed number) and figured I would have to wait until 10 AM to get in; naw, those Virginia WAMAS vultures were already there making sure they didn't miss anything. As reported lots of nice looking frags and a lot of assortment at very reasonable prices. I got a nice blasto frag, an acan, bunch of zoos and my first palys along with a neat mushroom rock that are either very hairy mushrooms or rics. Sonny had a lot of stock but it was going out the door very fast. I kidded him about selling out his first day. If you get a chance give him a visit. I understand the stuff on the web is different than the retail store. It was great to meet some fellow club members so far from home. Oh yeah, I got my free frag and the 10% off for club membership.
  16. Very impressive. Love the rock work. Corals all look very healthy, happy and beautiful. Hats off!
  17. Connor, I have a 150 gal and several tangs. It is about 5 feet long. The one thing I dont like about my tank is it is 30 inches deep. It is a pain in the butt working at that depth. You have to drag out a pair of tongs to do just about any work in the lower third of the tank. (Thus the comment made about "how long are your arms.") The depth of a tank is a consideration only from an ease of working/maintaining. It has become a major consideration for me. Bob
  18. Hey ya'll, just wondering how many folks are going to Fredrick this Saturday so I know how early I have to get there to beat everyone. Also wondering about any feedback on Aquatic Creations in Ijamsville MD. I might hit this on my way back to DC. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A FISHING WEEKEND
  19. Let me holler at the DC homies and see if we cant do something after Thanksgiving and before Christmas.
  20. Sprite....... I have been reading the most outrageous stuff about mushrooms on various sites. It seems they are fool proof. (or so they say) There are a group of people doing experiments using blenders to make mushroom smoothies, dumping them into buckets w/ rubble and waiting weeks and then growing out the resulting polyps that form. I have also read about people using the old "vegamatic" and just chopping, stirring the results in water and dumping on rubble in a tupperware container. This does not hold true for any of the ricordias. Zoos it seems love to be cut and glued and grow faster the more they are cut. Scalpel and razor blades are the best. I have several mixed zoa rocks and I prefer single color per rock. I have found that if I knock off a single polyp by hand or fingernail and put "him" with a piece of rubble in a shot glass he will attach and multiply. If the rubble is really small you can then glue it to a larger rock. Playing with zoas and shrooms are fun because they are low cost and one of the easier corals to grow. You might look @ www.club-zoa.com Good Luck Have fun. "The other Bob"/ with tank envy......
  21. I was smart enough (happens once in a while) to place all rock in tank....very big heavy pieces before I put in any sand. I don't think (famous last words) the rock is going anywhere. I was just suprised at the digging as I read they locked themselves into the rock work at night. I didn't anticipate the digging.
  22. Well I am hoping for the best. I got a new Pink Tailed Trigger from BRK yesterday. He seemed to settle in fairly well. A little hostility from my large Sailfin Tang and my smaller Hippo Tang, but all and all everything ok. I fed mysis and he ate like a pig as Johnny said he did/was. I was happy to see that both my cleaner shrimp and red shrimp were taking turns cleaning him.... Whew, I was very worried about this reef safe thing! I went upstairs to do some work and came down two hours later to find my entire tank milky cloudy (OH S#%T) now what? It seems our newTrigger managed to dig out a huge pit under a rock wall as his new home! He also totally buried a new blue clove polyp rock I got the same day @ F&F. Oh Lord, what have I done? I read that Pink Tailed do not dig or rearrange rocks...... This morning everything seems back to normal and everybody is happy. He likes small pellets and I think he is training my large Sailfin to eat pellets as well. Keep your fingers crossed for me. He looks awesome!
  23. Call me a fool..... and I know once I say something sh#t will happen. I have lived in the city (all wires underground) for 23 years and only once (notified power outage for one hour) have I lost electricity. Even during the last hurricane we had 3? years ago, not even a flicker, even though power was out @ work in Takoma Park for 3 days. I am gonna just chance it.............. Bob
  24. LOL..... I have fought for 10 years to quit smoking. Currently on Chantix and in my 11th. week of no cigarettes. I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!!!
