  1. Here is the picture of my other frag (obviously not encrusting)
  2. I've always liked these crabs and would like to know your opinions on them...do you see them often? ok for reefs?
  3. Thanks for all the replies everyone. I just realized something .. I actually have a much larger/more developed frag in my tank - I'll have to take a picture of it and post.
  4. encrusting montipora..anyone know what the name of it is? or is it just 'orange encrusting monti'
  5. I'm probably going to have sps for at most two years...when I go to college I'll either take the entire tank down or just sell the sps & maybe the lps. I want to have everything as simplified as possible for my parents anyway, I'm liking the idea of a kalk stirrer or making my own two-part supplement - the calcium reactor IMO sounds like something that would better in a more long-term plan thanks for the advice everyone
  6. I've been doing B-ionic lately, and am quickly finding out that it's going to be very expensive in the long run.... any suggestions for an alternative? calcium reactor? I need something as inexpensive as possible btw I have a light-medium calcium demand in my tank
  7. it's amazing, I have the exact same thing on a frag of neon green tenuis and was wondering what it was. I was confused at first, because it appeared to be 'built in' to the coral and even had the same color.
  8. Looking good! maybe you could build up a wall of rock to help cover up the overflow?
  9. NSC: that's an interesting point. The xenia is actually located on the highest point on the rock. But I haven't noticed any increase in heftiness. It's just stopped. treesprite: you know, I was actually wondering the same thing. Maybe my tank water is just too clean?
  10. no - no major changes to the tank that I can think of...
  11. I'm a little weirded out with my pulsing xenia...I got a frag I think two years ago, when I set up my first sw tank...it grew like a weed in there...I moved it into the newly set up 90g several months ago...grew like a weed in there as well...but recently it's just stopped. I did the periodic 'weeding' (leaving one small piece behind as usual) and it just didn't grow back. Now I only have one, nice-looking little bunch attached to a rock that I've now placed near the center of the aquarium on the sandbed. I'm definitely happy about this, but am just curious as to why the xenia stopped growing all the sudden... any thoughts?
  12. cool can't wait to see pics! leave the pumps (and heater if possible) running to dissolve the salt faster

  17. where do I find refractometer calibration fluid? lfs? or does anyone have some that they'd be willing to let me use?
  18. I just swish the sand around in a bucket of water...dump out dirty water...refill...and repeat until the water comes out fairly clean
  19. yeah how the heck did a post about high temperatures, warning of blackouts, and generators turn to...............this
  20. this good stuff to get? http://aquariumsuppliesplus.com/pro476381.html
  21. calcium is ~315-330ppm nitrates are <.1 and I don't have a good alkalinity test kit yet ... next time I get a chance, I'll get myself some salifert test kits for alk and a couple others
  22. I'll test them this morning no .. and can't afford one any time soon
  23. I've been trying to get my green monti cap to color up for a month or two now, but it just won't I got it as a (very large) frag from this colony but it is a brown/olive green color instead of the nice green of the colony as you can see in the picture in my signature, it's high up in the tank, but should it be higher? Would adding calcium (I haven't been dosing calcium yet, but I have some coming in the mail now) and more flow also help with color? oh and my light is a 6x54w T5 w/2x 6500k, 2x aquablue +, 1x actinic +, 1x super actinic
  24. same here .. very impressive woodwork .. the stand and canopy are looking amazing can't wait to see it up and running!
