  1. Real sorry to hear about your loss man, I've been there and it sucks. Did you test your tank for copper? It is hard to believe there was enough leaching from a blown heater to nuke your tank? There probably was almost no flow over the element itself.
  2. I'm confused as to what happened, can you explain? Was the heater overheating you tank, causing your corals to die? (doesn't seem like this is what you are saying) Was the heater shorted, causing electricity in your tank, causing your corals to die? (wouldn't your GFCI or even your breaker catch this?) (wouldn't it sizzle and bubble very obviously? wouldn't you die putting you hand in the water?)
  3. And bird-puke corals, don't forget them!
  4. Is it the pump itself or is the pump vibrating against something? Some people use cut up pieces of mouse pads under the pump to make them quiet.
  5. Crazy animations. I had to turn them off before I got past the first page. BTW, I've noticed my chiragra likes to lay on his back and curls up a little bit when threatened or scared. I think it is his natural defensive position, which seems odd, but he does it all the time when I scare him. Maybe yours was just being extra defensive because it was more vulnerable.
  6. I was planning to pull my finger away at the last moment, and put in the video "mantis attacking me"......"yeah, right!". But he was too fast for me. I did not bleed. I got a small bruise. It was like hitting my finger with a small hammer, or more like jabbing it with something like a screwdriver. Pretty impressive impact for such a small guy. Might not of been his hardest punch, either. I have noticed that the force of his strike varies considerably from strike to strike.
  7. If it is getting to the DI with 50 TDS, there is likely something wrong with the system.
  8. Doesn't carbon trap bad stuff as well? I know it doesn't trap arsenic, but it certainly traps some toxic stuff, doesn't it?
  9. If it is about the fun and experience of doing it, and being able to say you did it, then that is different. BTW: Have you tried hikaru dorodango to be able to say you did it yet? Now there is something that really isn't worth the time for any other purpose than the enjoyment of doing/having done it.
  10. +1...I am a big DIY-er, but this one just doesn't seem like it is worth it.
  11. If I would of known my pain was this amusing, I would of touched THIS jellyfish and made a video of it eating my arm...
  12. That link says they are found throughout southern australia, quite a long way away...doesn't say anything about the Mediterranean...wouldn't the mediterranean be cooler water? Also the article says they are up to 4cm...these are a lot bigger than that...5"+ = 12-15cm I think?
  13. Heh, you know me! I hate to admit it, but I did (briefly) consider touching the jelly to see how bad it would hurt. Fortunately I was distracted by a guy on the beach selling souvlaki.
  14. That jelly fish (1st and second pic) was ENORMOUS. Scared the heck outta me. Also saw a huge amount of urchins (3rd pic) and fish (4th pic). And some really beautiful anemones (5th pic).

  19. I was checking out some tide pools in the Mediterranean Sea when I was on vacation last week, and was amazed how beautiful these anemones were. These are the best shots I could get, it wasn't easy with all the surf action. As you can see from the pics, some of them were high and dry, one was eating a fish (looked like a fisherman dropped a bunch of bait fish there and the anem grabbed one), some were literally living in a pile of garbage. Very beautiful anemones...I considered borrowing one. Since they could obviously live in garbage, and out of water for hours...I figured they would survive the trip home. But I did not. These guys were all about fist sized.
