Hello, Wamas members-- I am re-joining after a long break. My kids are now 10 and 7 and I am looking to get my very sad and neglected 75 gallon tank back in good working order. It's nice to see a lot of the same names on the forums. I will be looking to restock --only have 1 pair of clowns and a hogs head wrasse that have somehow managed to survive my neglect. And I would greatly appreciate any cheap or free easy soft corals. I know many of you live in Virginia, but I am in Gaithersburg, Maryland, so near there would be preferable to me. If any one is interested, I have a large perennial flower garden and would be happy to trade plants for coral frags... Any advice would also be appreciated. I began daily water changes and manually clearing out the algae growth. Scrubbing down some of the rocks. I have a protein skimmer running and a hang on the back filter, can't remember the brand. Water quality is ok, but not stellar. Hoping to improve that in the next few days with the water changes. Thanks Sharon Eppler

Due to some sort of short I need to replace only 1 of my T5 end caps. It is an Ice Cap (now CoralVue). I think Drs. Foster & Smith now sell them, but I hat to pay $20 for a small plastic part (only the black insert needs to be replaced). Anyone have an extra or a used one they want to sell? thank you, Rob

Don't discount the possibility of something like lyme disease. I know several people that have had "unexplained" joint pain, etc that got progressively worse. Turned out to be lyme. VERY hard sometimes to get an accurate diagnosis, as the "test" are often not accurate. Sharon

I had a yellowtail once, when I first started keeping salt water aquarium. Very pretty. Very nasty fish. I had one store employee tell me they had "no redeeming qualities" asside from their color. Sharon

Thanks for the help. Here is what I have tried so far: 1. Checked fuse, it is fine. 2. took out all the bulbs and tried them 1 at a time. I found this odd behavior: a. Any single bulb will turn on to full brightness for 1-2 seconds in the front or back slots. b. A single bulb in the middle slot only turns on to about 5% brightness then immediately turns off. c. Two bulbs installed at same time, one middle & one back slot, both turn on to full brightness and then off. So far, I have come to the following conclusions: 1) It is not the bulbs or how they are seated 2) Something is up with the middle slot, but it is not the wires to the caps, I checked them 3) It is in the ballast. My next step is to open up the ballast and take a look, even though it appears to be riveted shut. If I can't fix it, I am curious what would be advised: 1. Send to Coralvue for repair 2. Buy one new or used 3. Try to find a substitute any thoughts are appreciated. Rob Eppler (engineer husband of Sharon)

I have a 660 ballast running qty 3 T5 bulbs that has just started acting funny. When turned on, the lights come on for 1 second then turn off. This is repeatable, so I don't think a fuse or breaker is blowing. Questions: 1) Has anyone seen this problem before? 2) Since it appears ICECAP inc is out of business does anyone recoommend a place to repair them? Have you tried any of the enzyme based cleaners like Natures Miracle...used to get out pet odors by breaking down the bacteria...don't know if it would work, but that's what I'd try.

Those are good suggestions, but I had already tried them. I would include photos but I can't seem to get the attachment feature to work. Any other suggestions? Thanks, -Rob

Hi, Thanks for the help and comedy. Unfortunately, it is not so simply as salt in the tube. I have done some more tests with it, and still have not solved the problem. I have separated the pump from the back-pack and it creates bubbles just fine. This lead me remove the back pack and completely clean it out. This has not helped. So, now I have only two possibilities that occur to me: 1. There is an air leak of some kind where the pump feeds into the backpack letting air escape - I checked this with a "snoop" test and found no air leak 2. There is some sort of weird back pressure going on that either prevents the bubbles from getting into the backpack or absorbs them. Neither of the above make much sense, but it is all I have got. So to summarize: 1. pump is fine 2. hose is clear. 3. Combination of pump, venturi, and feed hoses into back pack creates bubbles but NOT when hooked up to back pack. - Rob (not Sharon)

I have a very simple backpack skimmer with a MJ-1200 running it. I have the standard "basket adapter" and venturi hose it comes with. The skimmer has been working great for months. Three days ago I removed the basket to clean it out. I do this about once a week. After I put it back on and turned the pump on I got no bubbles. I don't mean no skim, I mean NO air whatsoever being sucked into the hose/pump. Over the past three days I have tried the following (not in this order): 1. Switched to a new MJ-1200 pump. 2. Let it run for a few hours with the cap off the venturi hose 3. Let it run for a few hours with the cap slightly closed on the venturi hose 4. Let it run for a few hours with the cap completely closed on the venturi hose 5. Replaced the basket, hose and venturi cap. 6. Yelled at it. None of the above worked! This is a ridiculously(or so I thought) simple device. I have taken a straw and blown into the venturi hose and I DO get bubbles into the skimmer, but they stop when I stop. So, If anyone can advise me in this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Rob

I would love some, but my tank isn't quite ready yet. I'm setting up my 75 again and I just started cycling it a few days ago. Probably shouldn't add any frags for about a month, I guess...Any chance you could hang on to a piece for me? And, btw, where in Gaithersburg are you located? I'm near the airpark...
