  1. Yeah, see virtual reef tank link in sig.
  2. I'm not sure I follow? Got pictures?
  3. I'm in Vienna which isn't *too* far away. Happy to chat any evening.
  4. Aw man, dose after dose of the pink stuff.
  5. Looks like a sea cucumber. Holothuria.
  6. You *did* see my frag tank announcement, yes? It's not just you, man.
  7. Not the least of which is I have somewhere to pitch my Xenia and get them attached to rocks before I haul them over to Marine Scene. Happy, Healthy Lots of food left. Not yet. I'm going to chuck a bunch of stuff in the frag tank and start my treatment process while I shut off the flow to the frag tank. I'm expecting I'll need a couple of sweeps. The first sweep will be to kill most of them and I'll want to extract a bunch of stuff before doing that. Then a big water change. Not sure how many you had. I have ... A LOT. Before sharing frags with anyone at the last meeting I ran the frags through 3 treatments. 1 in a 3xpower kill chamber for upto 10 mins. 2 in a standard power kill bucket for a couple hours, and then standard power in the baggies that I doled out. The kill chamber I had to refill for every frag. The water quickly turned yellow. I expect when I treat my tank, all the water will turn yellow. :-\
  8. You can move the anemone wherever you want. The anemone will go to wherever it is most happy. And then it may move again later when it decides it's time.
  9. Stand courtesy HowardofNOVA Tank courtesy NAGA FRAG TANK IS NOW OPERATIONAL! (Empty, but I'll deal with that momentarily)
  10. Watch out. I have one of those "combo" media drives with floppy thing in my computer and it can't read my SanDisk Ultra II 2GB that I got with my D50. Had to go out and get a dedicated reader. :-\
  11. Aha! This was it. I removed all attempts at reducing noise (covered up holes, no tubes) and the drain is accomodating the flow. Huh, how about that.
  12. I have a 30G tank that gets water from my main sump off a mag 9.5 I just bought today. Water overflows down a 90deg elbow, through a bulkhead, around the corner via 90deg elbow, and then down via 90deg elbow and then many other twists and turns before eventually ending back in the tank. Interestingly enough, I was able to drain a MAG 12 yesterday. It was making a horrible slurping sound (doh, forgot to do the T on the outside with a hole in it) so I shoved a 1/4" vinyl tube down the hole. That shut it up right quick and everything worked fine overnight. Today I bought a MAG 9.5 (12 was just too strong) and LO AND BEHOLD the 1" overflow can't handle the flow out. To more permanently solve the noise problems I drilled holes in the elbows on the outside and shoved a 1/4" vinyl tube down each of the 2 holes I drilled. Tried sticking a 1/4" vinyl tube into the elbow inside the tank too to no avail. It's just not handling the flow. What am I doing wrong? It worked off a mag12 yesterday.
  13. Your bulkhead should go: SCREWEY THING | GLASS TANK | RUBBER SEAL | BULKHEAD INSET So... the rubber seal should go on the inside of the tank and the screwey thing on the outside will keep it firmly pressed against the glass. These are all technical terms.
  14. Well, the fish and snails and crabs with LR should be able to live in there for a goodly long time -- think of it as a nano. Keep up on water quality. The corals -- well, that depends on many things.... wouldn't want to do that for very long (a week?) again, depending on the coral specifics.
  15. I had an emerald crab rip a sailfin to shreds and eat it whole 2 weeks later after it had healed up.
  16. Well it's a new tank, this is common. It will go away in time as long as parameters are good. You're using tap water -- some say this is fine, I recommend to go with RO/DI. You may also want to pick up this book.
  17. Welcome back to the hobby. Those are good books to start with. You'll find this is a very different hobby than when you left it, I think. I've only been in it for about 7 years. You'll find more information in my website (link below) about what I stock etc. Make sure to hit up the tank tours -- a GREAT source of information. Start putting aside money now for the 180G.
  18. Not a very good quality pic, but it sure is a lot of valonia. What is in the picture - Valonia, bubble algae Who is taking picture - Emissary Camera Used - No idea, taken a long time ago. Camera Setting if available - n/a Where is the pic taken? - In a previous fish room.
  19. If chip's willing to pick one up for me, I'd like one as well.
  20. Welcome to the club! LMK if you have questions or want to do any crazy stuff.
  21. Plastic first. Then glass. Then rock. Maintain high alkalinity, high pH, high calcium levels. Good lighting. There's no secret here -- good water quality and coralline will come.
  22. darn. You beat me to it. I was going to suggest Tobacco.
