  1. Would love to help out building. I have a decent Hako and Weller soldering station I can bring for branding WAMAS into our shoulders for the "DIY club" initiation. At the very least we can melt some sort of logo onto Jake's table. May need a lot of beer for Jake. I hate to sound like a stick in the mud, but I think I will take care of my own electronics, but would really love to get in on the float switch order - 2 please. Sounds like the board idea is really the way to go, just can't justify it for myself.
  2. Neater -> one plug -> true. I should have read ALL the nano-reef post for the explaination, sorry. I guess its up to group if we do a "party" to decide on the power supply style. Either way, I'd like at least to participate, though I may just get some float switches. Even though only $5 for parts, I have them all here in the lab. More beer $$. Doug
  3. I'm in. And can supply irons, solder. I may have enough of these big relays to just donate, depending on demand (3-24V DC input). Will see if I can get 5V supplies, but if I get the 12's we probably should regulate it (by 7805's or resistor+zener?). Cant we just buy the 5V DC power supply from the shack if we cant get donated, and skip the rectumfriers, craps, etc... Just need to get float switches and relays (again, if not donated)
  4. By the way, while we are talking frugal, our manufacturing facility throws away boxes of extra power switching supplies. 12V 5A range gallore! If anyone needs for switches, fans, etc.., just ask. Not sure about how many of the lower voltage ones they chuck, but I will check. I feel like I'm at a hamfest.
  5. Hey, I know it's a power relay, but it works... Sorry, work was throwing out multipacks of these, so I got a handful for free. Our price was only about $9 each, but we bought in bulk. I'm sure it would take plenty of simultaneous powerheads on at once to burn one out though. I am also fond of overkill, even if turning on MH's. There you go again krish, being all smart and economical. [ws]
  6. Here's an relay I use that can handle up to 10 amps! Can probably get a bunch of them fairly cheap if there's demand. About 5.x1.5x2". Kinda big, but reliable and screw terminals!
  7. I just bring chips and dip. ....fancy-pants escargot types.
  8. the mrc one you can get cheaper probably elsewhere. It's a milwaulkee model #?? that has the bubble meter on it that I like.
  9. I figured you guys wouldn't want to pay all that, but worth a shot! The MRC's are very sexy, but after the kalk reactor, I sat back with mine in 20/20 hindsight and said " I could have built that!" Chip, more cash is always good! I can get it after the holidays. By the way, Kaye our HR lady at work commented today that she was very pleased working with you and your flower biz. BUY FLOWERS FROM CHIP. You guys leave Chris open for the 11th. He has some heavy lifting to do!!!
  10. us plastics has the 8" diam, 1/8th wall thickness for $32 per foot. 1/4 wall thickness is $34. Tap plastics does not carry 8". Not sure if cheaper somewhere else. Which is why I am tagging along , as I would try to sneak in some 8" tubing in the order if you go tube instead of square. acrylic tube
  11. The first chamber is the main chamber used for recirculating the CO2 saturated water to disolve the media. This circulated with a "powerhead" sized pump, where the effluent (water inside) is in the 6.6-6.8 ph range to disolve the media. A second pump is used to push water from sump, into main reactor of circulation, trickles through to the second chamber, where excess CO2 can be offgassed and ph is stabilized into the 7-7.2 ph range, and back into the sump. You will use the media in the first chamber typically twice as fast as the second. The second chamber really just helps out with ph stabilization.
  12. thanks for keeping the DIY'ers doing chip
  13. I use the regulator on this page regulator
  14. Chris, Very similar design to the one I have from MyReefCreations.com. Since I am out in the boonies as well, you can stop by anytime to look at it and compare notes if you want. I think pushing effluent up through the media in the second reactor tube is a good idea though (in terms of offgassing the CO2). Doug
  15. Just to validate, in my case it did follow the bulb, not the ballast.
  16. I did receive 2 XM 10k 400w bulbs from MarineDepot a few months ago. Ran on PFO Magnetic ballast. Didn't try the electronic to see if there was a difference. Put them on a 110gal and one was bright white, one looked quite yellow and stayed that way for while. Tank was really goofy looking. It did even out a little in time, but with the huge difference in the beginning, there was still a noticeable difference. Don't know if I would have worried about it if there was only one light over the tank. Went through XM to replace. The RMA procedure at MD seemed like a hassle, so I went to XM directly. They would not advance replace, but did have a quick turnaround. The replacement looked much more even. Never got word if there was a bad batch around or not, but the customer service at XM was responsive to email.
  17. Dr Mac, The new additions are beautiful!! I was up to 2am futzing with the tank. Your product (...my addiction) is affecting my work! Yaaawwwwn! Thanks for opening up and giving us an early peak at your new, and soon to thrive, retail location. Doug A
  18. Looking for a ride to Dr. Macs on Sun. Anyone in VA have room?
  19. Eventually got everything moved. I think if I ever was going to get any of my friends interested in this hobby, there is no way now!!!! Couldn't even get them to go out to dinner afterwards. They just wanted to leave when finished, but I at least convinced them to let me buy them filet-o-fish sandwiches at Micky D's. Only lost one skunk anemonefish that stayed in the anemone and I didn't notice, and put him in the bag with the anemone. Guess things got quite noxious in there. I broke my blue stag into a few pieces as well. No one there to take the frags. wndr
  20. Sorry about the lack of coorespondence with those of you who have offered. The buyers of my old house delayed everything for 2 days and the move has been rushed. Finally, I'm back online. Sat: I plan to unhooking start bagging corals and such at about 9am. probably get out of there in about 2 hours. ?? All buckets and containers will be helpful. I think i will buy trashcans as I will probably need them in the future. 43005 Beachall St. South Riding, VA 20152 house 703-327-2981 my cell 703-395-5190 move to : 949 Devonshire terrace Purcellville, VA 20132 540-338-1030 (yes, way out to 540 area code!) I really appreciate the offers. Provided everything lives, frags of choice. Doug
  21. Anyone around that could help in the Chantilly area on Sat, Oct 30 that could help me pack up I would appreciate it.
  22. As I said in another thread, I wish my wife would have trusted me with silicone, or I would have tried to beat you to it. [tr] That thing is a monster! Keep up updated with the log. I know several of us that are about to bring up large tanks (240+), and would love to learn from your experience.
