  1. Maybe something like this: http://s598.photobucket.com/user/BriGuy31p/media/P1080943.jpg.html?sort=3&o=447 Looks like it was built out of thin pexiglass: http://s598.photobucket.com/user/BriGuy31p/media/P1090094_edited-1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=432 The album for more pics: http://s598.photobucket.com/user/BriGuy31p/library/?sort=3&page=19
  2. 5. Yes I would build a manifold that provides a gate valve for each line coming out of the pump. It just gives you the flexibility to tweak the flow along each line. I would also consider adding 1 extra outlet for future expansion (e.g. for media reactors, etc.). 6. If your pump will be external (outside sump) I would put a shut-off valve to allow you to remove the pump for maintenance. If it is submersible, then I wouldn't bother since each line has its own valve. In an emergency just unplug the pump instead of choking it down completely. Make sure and make a good list since lowes is far away. I like to dry fit my valves, tees, elbows etc at the store to make sure everything fits as expected. Don't forget small things like the teflon tape, pvc glue, clamps for the tubing, etc. It seems that it almost always requires an additional trip to the store for that small thing you forgot. Good luck and have fun!
  3. Looks like your build is coming along. I like to use the slip/thread (slip on head side) bulkheads for drains. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the slip on the outside require you to cut off the bulkhead if you need to remove it down the line (e.g. bad gasket). Maybe won't be the case, but just want to put it out there. I prefer to use gate valves over ball valves. I have a couple ball valves in my plumbing and they are really stiff to adjust. I can appreciate the price difference, but don't want you to regret using ball valves down the line like me. The emergency drain doesn't need a gate valve and can drain anywhere into the sump. However, I like to have my drains in the same location. You could consider a remote refugium down the line and keep your existing sump.
  4. Anyone can be added to the gb if you send an email to GroupBuys@BulkReefSupply.com. Just use the same email you have registered with brs. The brs email states: "If someone missed the original signup: they are free to sign up at any time before the group buy ends." "Your group buy is open from: 06/04-06/09"
  5. I got an email from BRS yesterday and already ordered.
  6. Count me in. Sending PM. More info: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/customer-center/group-buys You have to create an BRS account and they will email you when the GB begins.
  7. Does everyone have to pay shipping separately when doing a BRS group buy? Is the discount based on the items or % off total?
  8. Anyone near Gaithersburg or downtown Silver Spring have a handheld ph probe I can borrow for a day? I want to double-check the readings that my probe (connected to my DA RKL sl1) is getting. I got a reading of 7.47 yesterday (now back to 7.76) and want to make sure there is no interference causing noise in my wired probe's readings. I recalibrated to be sure and the readings remained the same as before. Thanks!
  9. Luckily I have only had a few aptasia pop up. I killed them off by injecting boiling water with a needle. I was able to get them even when they retracted into the rock. Haven't seen them since.
  10. Not sure about the status of this build, but I took a look at your stand and don't think it will hold the weight safely. All the tank's weight will transfer to the screws holding the top frame. There needs to be wood between the top and bottom frames so that the weight from the top frame transfers to the bottom frame through wood. Not sure if my description makes sense. Let me know if you want me to draw on your picture to better illustrate my description.
  11. Yea kinda weird. I checked another kit I have and the alk reagent is also red. Also red in the alk video below. Did you double check the expiration date? Mine expire on 10/15 and 3/16. Interestingly the mg instructions in the video belw match yours. (For the others) Mine say to swirl for 60s after step B. Alan's say to swirl and then let sit for 60s. Not sure if it made the difference in our results. 12. Thank you very much AlanM for helping me out today! Members like you make WAMAS great.
  13. Thanks all for the help! AlanM I would like to take you up on the offer to meet. I will pm you to see when we can get together.
  14. I agree the color differentiation sucks with test kits. For example, the alk test turns from blue to orange. The color seems to turn a little orangeish/blueish to a little more orange in color. If I keep going then it gets a little brighter and brighter until it turns almost red. I can't tell at which point it is actually at the end color. The ca and mg tests turn blue, but seem to be a purple color. If I stop swirling it, it turns a little more pinkish. I keep going and it seems blue, but then gets really dark. I have been adding lots of sps corals over the last 5 months into my 40g breeder so I am trying to get a handle on my parameters before they end up really low. thanks!
  15. I am having a really hard time with the Red Sea mg, ca and alk test kits. I have looked at their tutorial videos online and can follow the instructions fine. However, I'm not confident in my ability to truely find the end color. Is there anyone near gaithersburg that would be willing to help me on a weekend or evening? I can bring some water and my test kits over. Thanks!
  16. Clip-on floodlight + 6500k daylight CFL from Home depot. Grows cheato just fine.
