  1. I have a Vectra M1 from my other setup. It will have to do.
  2. Yeah, that "old school" thought of 8x was when they didn't have such cool powerheads. I got my first reef tank almost 20 years ago and I remember the choices. Not so good and really expensive. In my more recent tanks I have been doing about 4x per hour, but MP10s and Gyres to keep circulation in the tank high for my SPS. Since this is my first drilled tank with ghost overflow, I am curious what GPH I will NEED in order to keep the flow silent. Now I'm a little worried it will be more flow than I want into my sump. I'll find out this weekend when I get it wet I guess.
  3. Just curious how many GPH people are pushing per gallon of their DT. Not talking about circ inside their tank with PHs or closed loop. Just what is going through your overflow and return pump. I'm setting up a new 120g tank and it has 2 1-1/2" overflow pipes rated at up to 1500 GPH. I have 2 3/4" returns. I figured I can probably push the 1500 if I want to, but in the past I haven't really prioritized turning the water over. I've just focused on circulating in the tank with powerheads. Which brings me to my question....how many times an hour do you turn your tank over? GPH/Volume of DT.
  4. Had a Waveline DC6000 and loved it. Now I have a Ecotech Vectra M1. I can't say I like it any more than the DC6000.
  5. I like it blue but not too blue. My T5 setup is Blue+ and Coral+ mix so I do like it blue. I'm curious to see what temp that Radium is. I've never had MDs. I do know a good looking tank that has Radiums with 2-T5 Actinics, but I have places for 4 bulbs. It all depends on how blue the Radiums are with my ballasts and what colors I need to supplement. I have a couple of extra new Blue+ and Coral+ bulbs I can mess around with.
  6. We'll see. I'm pumped for this light setup on the new tank. MH/T5/Reefbrite.....should be cool.
  7. I'm new to this but I am going to run 250w Radiums and figure out the T5s when I get it powered up. I hear I should run actinics but we'll see. 4 T5s of actinic seems a little excessive especially if I install the Reefbrite as Seth suggested.
  8. Decided to do the MH/T5 combo with a Giessmann Spectra 48". 2-250w halides and 4-54w T5s. I may add that 48" Reefbrite to the front, but I would hate to mess up that sexy light
  9. Hahaha. When I had to catch my Foxface I just scared the crap out of him and he played dead. Very easy to scoop him up then!!
  10. Yeah. I have no idea. I did the grease thing on the tube and made sure the wheels were good. Not sure what happened. I didn't see anyone else posting about them, so I figured I would share my experience. Not a bad product, but they do go bad. This last one I ran almost 2 hours per day. Both were years old and one was purchased used so even more use.....
  11. This was internal on both. The small gears stripped.
  12. On an 18" deep tank 8-bulbs is way overkill. I have a 6-bulb on a 12" and a 6 bulb on a 24". Both cook my corals and grow very well. Obviously the 12" deep is a very short photo period otherwise I would boil the water. The only benefit to buying an 8 bulb is just in case you plan to upgrade to a deeper tank someday.
  13. I do everything "well" including growing hair algae, killing fish, etc. [emoji23]
  14. Yeah I have the same Kalk dosing system and such. It is pretty awesome.
  15. I'm going to be selling my 60 cube and 45 shallow reef as well as my 24" T5 so I can easily pay for the added 48" XHO without my wife noticing the money gone.....
  16. My inspiration for the change to MH was Bruce's tank (bbyatv). His tank is amazing.
  17. I have a 48" Reefbrite and a 24" XHO on my tanks that I am breaking down. Maybe I put both on there with the 6 bulb and call it day. What do you think?
  18. So I am starting a new tank and thinking about lighting. The new tank is a 120g with ghost overflow. I have a 6 bulb ATI fixture for it, but I am debating supplementing it with MH. The other option is switching out the 6 bulb for MH and a 2 bulb T5. Any thoughts on this? I've seen a couple of very sweet MH/T5 tanks that look amazing. Ben
