  1. I feel gyres are hit or miss. For me it has been a miss. Cleaning them is a huge pain. I really liked them at first but once my tank started to grow algae I have just really disliked them. Just my .02
  2. Just awful to clean. I don't have time to let things sit in vinegar or H2O2, so I scrub. So many little pieces and fragile pieces and pieces that can only go on one side, just really pisses me off. I rather have korallias.
  3. Her ovipositor has not come out. I have in my records that the last batch of eggs hatched on the 5th, so she is over 2 weeks over due at this point. She is still eating well and acting like her self. Since the whole rock moving thing and once the eggs hatched, the clowns moved from the more right side RBTA to the left one and tonight I stuck a thing in the tank to see which side they were protective of and they now are protecting the right. However there are no good clutch spots over there so I put an old clam shell half in so they have something smooth to lay eggs on.
  4. So my pair of clownfish have been breeding now for almost a year, which has been amazing. However a couple weeks ago I had to move some rocks, and of course these rocks were in the breeding zone and I could not get the rocks exactly back to how they were. The male continued to care for the eggs until hatching. It takes a few more days till the female will lay eggs, but she hasn't. I can see her fat with eggs. I don't really care if they breed or not, my concern is for her health. Will her body reabsorb the eggs? Can fish get egg bound? Will she just hold the eggs till she decides a spot is good enough? Should I try to fix the rocks again?
  5. So for my new build which is taking absolutely forever, I was originally going to use a Gyre or two, but after using two for quite some time, I have decided I don't particularly like them. So I think using ecotech vortechs on the new build is what I am going to do. It is a 90 gallon, will be mixed reef, with a sand bed. My question is, how many pumps do I need? Way back with my first display tank I had 2 korallias, which did okay, but I feel the 2 opposite corner pump idea does not circulate the water enough, almost everywhere (no such thing as everywhere unless you go above and beyond). But I have never used more than two pumps in the tank, so I also have no idea where I would place a third or fourth pump. If you guys think that using vortechs makes all the difference and I can use two, I will try to believe. I would greatly appreciate some input on this. Thanks!!
  6. While in the car with my Dad I was talking about this event. I said how I consider WAMAS to be family and it is really sad and frustrating that someone on this forum would do such a thing. We have had similar thefts happen like at FragFest a few years ago where a whole cooler got stolen, and that is a members only event. Shame on those people.
  7. You may at least want to PM Tom with the names, that way in case someone else complains he can possibly narrow it down. I'm sorry that happened, really blows.
  8. I feel I could answer questions/concerns about: Gumdrop Coral Croucher, DragonFace Pipefish, Clownfish, Mandarins, Blennies
  9. Rather not, I have Kessil's with no controller so I rather not try and get the knobs/levels back to where they were. Some of the worms are legitimately blue.
  10. I got the rock, it is beautiful!! Pictures soon
  11. Hard to tell, sorry. Here is my favorite hitchiker id website- http://chucksaddiction.thefishestate.net/(On the left side click info links and go down to hitch hikers, and then in the middle scroll down and click shrimp/whatever.) Unlikely to be freshly hatched shrimp as they are usually in a swimming stage when freshly hatched. Tisbe Copepods are white, and the others are usually white or orange. Maybe mysid shrimp? I have no clue.
  12. That is a really interesting question! So far all of my hitch hiker sponges have seemed docile and tolerate each other. I have no idea about the more specialty sponges. As far as I know most sponges are pretty tame.
  13. Well now that I purchased the one I want, Blue Zoo Aquatics gets them in their Collectors Choice, and has one other right now- https://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productlistcc.asp?did=11&cid=354. Just sign up for the e-mails and you can see when they come in
  14. Despite my attempts to keep my coral quarantine tank without any hitchikers, having dipped everything, stuff still got in. I will see when it arrives if maybe I can dip the bottom or something.
  15. Hey guys and gals. This Friday I am hoping to have delivered a Christmas Tree Worm Rock/coral. Do any of you know if I can dip it in anything? Maybe a quick rinse in some RODI water? Thanks!!
  16. Not anywhere close to you but House of Tropicals near Baltimore usually has stuff like that
  17. It's hard to tell with it all shiny, but the white looks like sponge. It does looks it has tissue receding, which is not a good sign, duncans have tissue all over their skeleton. I would put it in a lower light area and see if you can get it to heal, but it may not.
  18. Now I am not sure if any of these can hold up to a euph sting, or if the euph can stand up to them, but here are some anyway. Monti, porites, chalice, blue ridge coral (actually a "soft" that is actually hard), favites
  19. By the way even matting corals might grow over the base of the euphs. Might consider encrusting corals.
  20. It is a seahorse tank. Plastic chains are a cheap and very easy way to provide tons of hitches for the seahorses.
  21. Well, to at least complete the circle of life, some people either buy a harlequin shrimp or give the stars to someone who has a harlequin shrimp. Not sure how humane that is per say, but at least it is putting them to use.
  22. Personally I don't trust any of those sea stars.
