You cant overdose on bottled bac. Using existing live rock should shorten or even remove the cycling process. If you use new sand you should rinse it until it is not cloudy anymore. You should be fine with what you have mentioned.

How long will the repair take? If it is only a couple days couldn't you cover the tank with a tarp and let it ride, so to speak? Maybe drain the water and slide it out of the way, if it is, than put the water back in and cover it. I had bug bombed a house with a reef tank before by covering it with plastic and taping everything up so it was sealed up. Would not recommend doing that but it worked being completely sealed. Drywall dust shouldn't be a problem if prepped properly.

Hello, I took a 6 year break but now I am back. I went on a 2 week vacation and had a non-reefing friend house sit. Well a week into the vacation I got a call and he said there's water everywhere and I got shocked trying to see where it is coming from. I told him to just shut the power down at the breakers and I will deal with it when I get home. I found out when I got home a return line popped off and the pump sprayed water everywhere and on outlets. That must have been why he got a shock. Everything was basically dead when I came home. I only had a school of chromis for fish and they somehow made it. Lost over 100 different types of coral mainly sps. The tank was low tech and I never had any issues so I didn't expect any. Now I'm back. I've had my tank running about 6 months now (150DD). I use the Zeovit method and also dose other bacterias like microbactor7 and vibrant. I added a few inexpensive corals to make sure the tank is ready to be stocked with more expensive sps. The only fish I have is a Moorish idol. He is fat and healthy. I figured if there is a time to have one this is it because it would be easy to acclimate him being the only fish. He won't get picked on and can focus on eating stress free. It worked. Soon I will start to adding other fish. BTW this time I used all hard plumbing and glued it.

Hello, As for the calibration fluid, to keep it good and accurate for a long time don't forget to keep the lid tight and try to have the lid off for as little a time as possible. The main reason for calibration fluid going bad is due to evaporation and the reading (ppt) drifting high.

I used to make my own phyto as well. I really had good success with feeding about one liter a week. I also dosed vodka and peroxide daily. I got tired of the manual dosing so quit the phyto as well. No real difference on coral growth but the colors of my corals was better when dosing and phyto. Also had lots of pods.

I had that happen to me also. Best to do a good water change. The gametes aren't toxic and they can be a very nutritious food source for many other things in an aquarium but the problem is that they'll all die and basically rot. This happens quickly.
