  1. The problem with not having the circus show is very simple ... Where will the money for the conservation efforts come from ?
  2. I thin k he is using something like the principle in a fork lift which is attached to the back of the canopy. Should not be too difficult to accomplish once you get the necessary parts. To get a smooth motion, its probably some sort of hydraulics which are being used to lift it up.
  3. I want to see it but to be honest I am not sure I have the heart to.
  4. You can also use clove oil or a clove when you have a toothache. Works wonders.
  5. Jumping on to gain some knowledge.
  6. Thank you ridetheducati. For some reason, I did seem to miss that.
  7. WHat I wanted to find out is if I can keep multiple flasher wrasses in my 120. Or if I can keep one male with a harem. The article previously mentioned does not seem to say anything about it. Was wondering if anyone has any intel on it. Also, will a flasher wrasse wipe out my incredible pod population? Do want to get mandarins in the future so have been building up a very nice pod population in the tank and sump.
  8. lol. He sent me this link to a great post about wrasses. http://www.3reef.com/forums/tropical-fish/all-about-reef-safe-wrasses-122261.html#.Ulxb_9Lrzig
  9. Thank you ridetheducati. Reading it now.
  10. Anyone have these beautiful fish? What is your general experience? How many do you keep or recommend to keep in a 120 gal? Any tips and/or advise? I am thinking of getting 4. Thanks!
  11. Tagging along. Would like to know as well.
  12. I used Microbacter which I got from QR to cycle my 120. Everything was "new" or had been sitting around for a while. It took me about 2 weeks to do a fishless cycle and I have not had any issues since.
  13. Its not fair to tempt people like this :P. Wonderful corals. I want all of them but then again, I dont want to sell my house or car for them .
  14. Thank you Tom. I will try that tonight and see how it works. Steve, if it doesnt, then a trip to springfield is in my cards . Thanks all!
  15. Do these glues dry quickly? I think I tried with the one from the dollar store (which my wife had gotten) and it would dry for a long time. I was scared the corals would not survive out of water for that long so I abandoned the idea. Thanks!
  16. Which super glue (brand name etc) do you use to glue your corals to rocks? I used one which was a gel but the dang thing wouldnt dry. Also, do you have to dry out the surface area before you glue it? Sorry if this sounds very silly but I thought I would rather ask than experiment. Thanks!
  17. A couple of my friends over at PVAS have tried these over freshwater planted nano tanks and they have worked pretty well.
  18. I use a simple float vale and a siphon attached to it. I will post a couple pictures later. It is working for me but its fairly new, about 2 months. My reservoir is a 10 gallon tank sitting on top of my 40 breeder sump. The water level is very consistent. Haven't had an issue with it until now at least.
  19. These things are not very durable. I had one and didnt last too long. I have another version of this which is bigger but I rarely use it becuase it doesnt do a good job at all. I would spend my money on a squegee ($1 at the dollar store) to clean the glass and a python for cleaning gravel.
  20. Great thread. Thank you for posting the link. Will probably go through the entirety of it when I get the time. Would be interesting to know how he combats algae for sure.
  21. Yes, I do. I get the morning sun on the tank and the corals love it. I dont think there is any substitute to sunlight. But as Orion stated, you do get more algae. So as long as you are ready and able to clean frequently and get rid of the algae, I think it is great that the corals get natural sunlight.
  22. I try to keep the water depth as steady as possible but I have nmoticed the same issue that it foams at a certain setting but then suddenly the bubble level will go down a lot. So as I understand I need to find a sweet spot where there is foam at the top of the skimmer overflowing very slowly into the collection cup? Maybe I need to wait for 2 or 3 days before I touch it once it gets there.
  23. I have been letting it be for 24 hours after I make an adjustment which is very small at a time. Do I need to wait longer for the skimate to start collecting ? How much skimate (water) should I expect for this kind of skimmer on a 120 gal tank ?
  24. Hello All, Have a question. I have an external octopus skimmer (2000 ext). For the most part it has been running fine. But when I remove the top lid and look in, I see the water "boiling". Is this ok ? Isnt the water supposed to "foam" rather than "boil" I have adjusted the in and out flows but I cant seem to get the correct balance. If I keep the outflow low (more water in the skimmer), I get a cup full of skimmate every morning. It is brown and smelly so the skimmer is doing its job. If I increase the flow, I get foaming at the top but hardly anything seems to overflow into the collection cup. Not sure what exactly the setting should be. Any tips and/or advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! PS. If anyone near me could come over and take a look and help me set it up correctly, I would greatly appreciate it.
