  1. Awesome setup... yes the top is to the ceiling and screwed into a joist.. not sure how much weight is transferred.. but its secure haha Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  2. Still have to add trim and doors along with a few other odds and ends... coming together tho... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks.. yea I have looked through most of the threads I have found and all have different answers.. although none have any reason to doubt reasonable strength.. The glass is 1/2 inch. I am guessing the canopy will be in the 150 pound range with lights and all.. we may end up hanging it from the ceiling.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. Good points and thanks for the input.. I guess my question is, what is considered an acceptable weight? I have to imagine some of the canopies I have seen with fancy trim and MH lights etc are over 100 pounds... any thoughts on amount of weight? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. My thought was the same. I have seen some very tall and large canopies... also the frame on the top is the same as the one on the bottom... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. I am building a canopy for a 180 that is going to be a unique design and much taller than a normal canopy. The frame is going to sit on the rim of the tank but it will be screwed into studs behind the tank. Is weight a concern here? Tank is a standard 180 with 2 center braces, plastic trim. 7. Well I appreciate the compliments man! Unfortunately, I sold a BUNCH of corals for two reasons... To pay for the tank To simplify the transfer process I kept my large gorgonians, red goni and big green leather (although its not doing well for some reason) So there will definitely be a bunch of new corals added... I considered going heavy SPS... but that just isn't my thing... likely will be extremely heavy on zoas, mushrooms and softies.. probably some montipora, favias and euphyllia as well.. also considering some macro algae as I have always incorporated them in when possible... (if I can do tang proof varieties) Really excited about the fish opportunities as well.. planning open, low rock work with the gorgonians providing the height Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks yall! Yea I'm stoked... Long story short.. I have always wanted a 6 foot tank. I love fish and watching them swim the length of a tank is literally my favorite thing about this hobby.. About a year ago I bought a brand new 125 from my LFS.. had it drilled, brought home, plumbed it up, filled etc. And it leaked immediately... I was so frustrated I got a refund and set my 120 back up... said I would never do it again haha.. welp here we go... I couldn't let go of the 6 foot tank dream haha.. I pray this one doesnt leak (I will be testing it first haha) Hope to have it wet by mid January or so. Gotta build the stand and get a few supplies! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  12. Yea these are not high light creatures in my experience as well.. I have 3 and they are low in the tank and I run my lights low anyway... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  13. Leptastrea was my guess too... closest I could come up with Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. Haha you got it..Wish I could remember... its 24k something I think... seller had his rack vertical and he had 3 or 4 of them to start the night... I got the last toward the end of the night... I dont care about the "made-up" name... just like to know the coral ID Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  18. I got this at the WAMAS meeting where Julian Sprung spoke. One of the first few hobbiest in the hallway. I remember he had his frag racks vertically in the tank.. I cannot remember the name of it to save my life.. I want to say it was 24k something or other... Thanks for the help! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks! Yea just feed LRS reef frenzy each night... I do feed a little heavy tho Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. Pretty cool... single polyp on the zoas? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. A few new pics Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. I would like for that to be possible.. but they are on a branching type rock.. it's pretty thin and I don't think I can cut under it... waa hopeful a razor blade could maybe cut a few polyps? Maybe best to leave alone, but they are some higher end ones that I would love to sell a few... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  23. So I have some zoas that have grown well and are spreading. I would like to drag a few to grow out on plugs... Anyone have some tips for cutting them in the tank? Say I want to cut 2 or 3 polyps from a colony? Thanks! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
