  1. It's been 3 weeks since I had surgery for a bacterial infection from my Reef Tank. The wound is almost healed but I still cannot bend my finger more than a few degrees at the first knuckle. Like I said "Wear GLOVES" This wasn't due to being stung by a coral, it was from the bacteria that every ones tank. The stars lined up against me, luckily I have good insurance, so far the cost is more than $10K.
  2. Thanks for the offer Makai531. I'm just breaking it down as I sale items. Hoping that tonight is the last night of wound pack and the surgeon will close it up with steri strips tomorrow. I will probably have to go to physical therapy or something as the infection got into the joint of my finger. Lots of nasty bacteria in the water be careful
  3. Ok the reason I posted was I just spent 4 days in the hospital for an infection. Started off as what looked like a mosquito bite. After emergency surgery and 3 days of IV antibiotics, I get to keep my hand. They are pretty sure that the infection came from my reef aquarium, I may have already had a scape or it happened while moving things in the tank. I have never thought about using gloves and have only seen one person who does. I was already planning on getting out of the hobby for other reasons but bought a pair of gloves just to break the tank down even though I am currently one handed. be safe my reef friends, You know things are serious when the surgeon pushed your gurney to the O.R.
  4. So how many of you use Aquarium gloves?
  5. What is the active ingredient in Interceptor that kills the Red Bugs?
  6. Photo's look great. I can't shoot tank photo's worth a crap with a digital camera. Give me an old Canon F-1 and I can create awesome images. But pixels are cheaper than film and processing, so I'll keep working on it. The key to depth of field besides the obvious smaller aperture opening (higher f-stop) is focusing. This is hard to explain here but your depth of field will be 1/3 in front of the point you fucus on and 2/3's behind. So if your depth of field is 15 inches. Everything 5 inches in front of and 10 inches behind the point you focus on should be in acceptably sharp focus. Of course this changes with what the depth of field is and the f'stop. Hope this make sense.
  7. I used aptasia X and followed up a month or so later with new growth and they never came back. It's not working on the Xenia though
  8. I may get to that point Swimboy123, I'll start on the rocks for now.
  9. I'll try some Aptasia X otherwise I'm going to have to take everything out and scrub the rocks. Only place I'm going to let it stay is on the glass.
  10. What's the best way to remove xenia without leaving pieces behind and having the pop up everywhere else. I want to remove them all off of rocks and just let them grow on the glass.
  11. My RBTA wandered for awhile before settling down front and center. Now it won't stop growing.
  12. I moved a system from Pensacola Fl. I did the move in about 30 hours total, wife refused to drive straight through. A friend who owned a Saltwater store bagged everything (corals, fish and inverts) with oxygen and everything went into Styro shipping boxes. Live Rock just went into tubs. Everything went into the back of my truck. I didn't lose anything.
  13. They are specific about the size now. I scored a 55 gallon acrylic Aquavue one year for $55.
  14. Very cool. I'll see how my clowns do this weekend when I add an Anemone. 2 are captive bred and the other is about 8 years old and hasn't seen one in all that time. I know it's a weird number of clowns but I promised a friend I would take care of his lone clown and really hated the hexigon that came with her.. Surprisingly they got along great as soon as I added the 2 CB's to the tank.
  15. Skimmer held together with Duct tape = need a new skimmer.
  16. Federal Government closed. Oh, I'm emergency essential, so I'll be driving back in tonight. Hope everyone's power stays on and you enjoy the snow day if you get one.
  17. Snowing at the Pentagon now. Should be a fun drive home in the morning. Sending my son out to get gas for the generator in the morning.
  18. I have completed the moved from the 5.5 gallon and the 14 gallon. I'll get some better photo's later. Camera phone pic here.
  19. I finally have everything going through the sump. The bag of sand under the pump worked like a champ.
  20. What can I put under the mag pump in the sump to cut down on vibration noise?
  21. I switch over the water and rock from the hexigon. I'm just running off the fluval until I get enough water made and everything connected. Fish are loving all the space.
  22. I have a cabinet next to it now, with all the dry goods, I hadn't thought about putting the controller in there but that's a good idea. What's also great about the stand is there are doors on 3 sides. The pic is actually through the right side door. I'm going to place a shelf there for A/B bottles and then I'll still have room underneath for anything else. The cabinet will be pack but with easy access to everything, I need to stop by HD or Lowes this weekend and pick up some plastic clamps,
