  1. Thanks. I was wondering if I should pull the two that have spots out and treat with copper? I know I should assume they all have it but was thinking these two are most infected and hopefully keep their gills from getting more infested. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Ok... The first shortcut I made ends in disaster. I added fish without QT first and now I'm paying for it with ICH. Its 125g and with the rockwork. coral, and about 14 fish (Regal Yellow bellied, Striatus Tang, 2 PurpleTilefish, 2 Gudgeons, 2 Scooter Bleenies, 2 Mandrians, 2 Sandsifters, African Leopard Wrasse , and a Indo-pacific Wrasse.) Some small fish, like the scooter blennies will make it next to impossible to get all of the fish out to leave the tank empty. Plus my only other tank is a 10g (ironically enough) QT tank. So I am not sure what to do. I already lost one tilefish. and the white spots JUST appeared... I inspect them everyday- when they decide to show up. Sometimes they stay hidden. Everything is a few weeks to a month and a half old. The posting says.... 14. INTERESTING FIND: If no new MI is introduce into an infected aquarium, the MI already there continues to cycle through multiple generations until about 10 to 11 months when the MI has worn itself out and becomes less infective. A tank can be free of an MI infestation if it is never exposed to new MI parasites for over 11 months. Ok, do nothing and in 11 months MI will be gone on its own. -- However, I realize I will loose some fish. But some people tell me moving them will stress them more and I may loose them because of that! Do fish that show the "white spot" always die if left untreated??
  3. Welcome!... BRK is the best! I travel 45min past several to go. Great looking Tank btw!
  4. Wow.. Sorry to hear. Every day is a new adventure in this hobby. I would imagine whatever the cause, it was not from anything you were doing prior to the plumbing problem. That would be quite the coincidence. Unless this was the stressor that pushed the fish over the top.(doubtfully) 74 deg may not be cold but it could be if it rapidly dropped from 78 or 80. I would guess the fact that the wavemakers were running helped preserve the corals because of flow NOT because of oxygenation since they are more concerned with light UNLESS the wave makers are really close to the surface and cause surface agitation. Plus since this was at night the corals were retracted and somewhat protected. Sounds like you were fortunate that some things survived. Sometimes the question is... Why is this still living??? And not why did this die? I have caused severe parameter problems in the ... Not so distant past... Everything was exposed BUT not everything died. Why? Who knows. Just is. I would guess the pH dropped quick and the CO2 rose. Origami may have something for us to think about... You shouldn't put plastic in the microwave so maybe during the dry run heat up it released a chemical in the water affecting the fish. As far as the missing fish... I'd love to know! It has happened to me... And with a Sea Hare!! Where did that big thing go?? Here one day.. Gone the next. ugh! Anyway, just interesting, so I wanted to throw my minus 2 cents in. 12. Cool.. I did put a pre filter on from the start. But that is a cool idea to rise it in the water exchange. I had a shrimp die today:( he seemed to be fine all day.. Eating and walking around. Not sure what happened. All my water perimeters seem to be fine. Nitrite=0 Nitrate= 12ish Ammonia= 0.02 Alkalinity= 8.62 (bumping that up) pH= 8.2 (still not sure how to get that up) Salinity= 1.025 Temp= 83.2 (but I'm not really sure my thermometer is reading right. I'm going to go get a second one tomorrow.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. There is nothing to "pull". It is a "coating" if you will. I brushed some of if off. How do you "clean" the macro algae? Take it out and rinse it off in the sink? Btw, since it just cycled I only have four clown, six snails, and two shrimp in the 125gal tank with a 45gal sump. Today I replaced the refug bulb with one that I know is 5100K. I threw out the old Macro and replaced it with new one today as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Well, I came home today to some new brown and red algae. It looks burnt at top where it's close to the lights on the rocks. Do I need to do anything about this? I do have a little spaghetti macro algae but I think it's also dying. I wonder if that has lack of ammonia to feed on since I have zero ammonia in the tank Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks Jaddc I think that is exactly what I am going to do but I am afraid of putting anything other than the 4 clowns and snails that are already in the tank. We will see.
  16. Thanks... I had no idea! Here I have been so worried about the fish and didn't give a snail a second thought. I will DEFINATELY acclimate them next time.
  17. I am getting the water from endlesswaters in gaithersburg. It tests fine and with Zero nitrates. I mixed the salt outside of the tank but I didn't let the water set since I was doing such a big water change and I removed the fish and then reacclimated them after a few hours when the water temp settled right. They did fine and it was found that the nitrate level although high is not as high as I once thought... Thanks to API testing... Crap! Dave... unfortunately I didnt acclimate them at all.. I didnt realize they were delicate at all and needed to be like the fish. Meanwhile, the hermit crab is happy as a lark... go figure?! I would have expected the other way around at least.
  18. Big Country... I figured out to run a high level Red Sea Nitrate test and the level is 12 NOT the 40 that API continues to read. I think I need to reevaluate using any test from API! Nevertheless, it still doesn't explain why the snails are doing so poorly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
