it depends what you want to grow. i got about 19 3w cree in my 24g aquapod and those leds get quite hot. you probably dont need that many if you are planning on keeping a fish only system or soft corals. the more leds you put under the hood, the bigger the heat sink you would need, but i am not sure that would solve yourheat problem. the leds i haveseem to generate more heat compared to 2 power compact.

it looks like you can just clip it onto the black refugium wall. put some silicone around the power plug and any metal screws you see and not fill the tank all the way up to the rim and you should be good.

that is strange. may want to check your internal fan to make sure it is on, maybe add another one if it only has one. there is nothing in there that would heat up the water to 80+ degrees.

you may want to check the temperature using a different thermometer. unless you are running metal halides, it shouldnt get that hot.

anyone know what the white sps coral is called? I got it from frag fest. it was already white when i first got it so i am assuming that is its natural color.

good point. it just have to be strong enough to withstand the element and not shatter to pieces if it does break.

the tubes oxidize rapidly rapidly after 2 years according to firecracker bob. dome discoloration and scratches will also likely to occur depending on weather.

that thing looks great. how big was it when you got it?

it may cost more, even with the warranty on the parts than leds. sure you save on electricity, but you pay for labor to get that thing replaced every couple of years.

cleaning that dome as part of your tank maintenance. too much work for me if i owned a house.

ordered a new heat sink from rapidled.com. hopefully it will solve the heat issue.

this is what it looks like turned down 50% on my tank. there is a problem though. then i touched the heat sink, i almost burned my fingers. this heat sink is not going to work. looks like i need to buy a heat sink.

sharkey18 thanks, so i added 4 more blue leds today. here is how it looked.

i use to clean my macro algae by rinsing it in my old water from water changes. after adding in a pre filter on theintake pump to the fuge, i no longer need to rinse the macro.

I have a birdsnest frag that is doing quite well. it is one of my favorite corals in my tank. i just never thought it was a sps. i have all the test kits except for magnesium and phosphate. i still feel like something is not right with my water. guess we will find out if it is the magnesium once the test kit comes in.
