What's puzzling to me is that the prices seem to have started low and are creeping higher.

If you are going for even spacing between rows and between columns... I would go for something that solves for the set of divisors that match both length and width. For this example, 3, 4, 6 and 12 divide into both... If you had 3 rows, you would have 16 per row. If you had 4 rows, you would have 12 per row. If you had 6 rows, you would have 8 per row. If you had 12 rows, you would have 4 per row. There are some boundary conditions to that, but you could throw away partials. The other option is to go with what you have and just round.

I have to agree with you. It amazes me that I was able to build a fully capable, 4' fixture myself years ago before LEDs were even big in this hobby for under $1000. If I crank my LEDs to full power, I can get over 400 lumens on the sandbed, most of these fixtures can't even come close. They charge for all of the bells and whistles. Who needs a storm effect? Why do you need wifi control? Are you really going to benefit from having the ability to set the color to be like Tahiti?

That's a heck of a lot of fish to add at once, even for a 240g. Pods and other macrofauna are really good at cleaning up dead fish, so I'm not surprised you didn't see any bodies. I'm with Sharkey on this one, what are your water parameters?
-
Very true. Now you just need to be sure that the fish you are buying is more than the cost of shipping or you could just buy a second one if the first dies from the LFS.
-
Exactly. Ordering from LiveAquaria straight does not get you a fish that has been QT'd. You need to order from Diver's Den.

What kind of mat to get for underneath stand

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. Best I've seen is to epoxy a tarp to the bottom of an area rug. All you see is the nice rug, but no water can make it through. -
I personally wouldn't put a firefish in there, but that's just me. Still not an active fish though of that's what you are looking for. Nice colors though.
-
At 6g, you'll be hard pressed to find an active fish. There are some sandsifters that stay small, but I don't think they'd work in a tank that small. Clown gobies certainly do spend most of their time perched. MAYBE one or two long-spined cardinals? They aren't very active, but they don't perch, they swim around slowly.
-
Tough question to answer for sure. How big is the furniture you're going to put in there? I think the ideal place would be on the shared wall with the garage EXCEPT for the fact that it would be too close to the fireplace IMO. So that spot is out. Then I would say put it on the wall with the washer/dryer, but I don't know where the doors are and you would get glare on the TV from it. You really can place the TV over the fireplace if you have a mantel that extends out a bit. If you did that, I would still put the tank on the wall with the washer/dryer.

I'd go for an inexpensive shop light. They're like $9 and you can clip it to the side. You might also want to consider hinging the top of the canopy so you don't have to remove the whole thing. That sounds like quite a job each time you want to get in there.
-
Looks really nice. You might be shooting a bit too large for your livestock. You could go with maybe a clown goby or two. I would steer clear of the cleaner shrimp, they are far too big for a tank that size. You could go with a few sexy shrimp though.

T5s turning off and flashing. What's going on?

This is true of any motor. Remember, a motor run in reverse is a generator. No need to bore everyone with the theory, but I'm very surprised that DA doesn't have any circuitry onboard to address this. Are there specific ports that are supposed to be used for pumps? -
Not my style, but very nice craftsmanship. I like the recessed section for the heatsinks, it is a nice touch.

T5s turning off and flashing. What's going on?
icecool2 replied to Integral9's topic in General Discussion
OK, I have a clearer picture now. If it were just the fact that the lights blinked while powered on, I would have said it is an issue with the fixture. Since the light comes on when it is supposed to be powered off, I'm going with the controller as the culprit. If no power is applied, no light is emitted. Your idea to monitor is a good one, but it all depends on the update rate of the logger. If this is happening over a fraction of a second, the log may not even register it. What would be interesting is to note what time you see the flash and then check the log to see if something else, like a heater, turned on at that time. Could it be that you have something plugged in which has too high a power draw for the controller?- -

I'm intrigued. How is the light turned off, but still powered? Is there a separate control line to the ballast? It sounds to me like the ballast is going if you are getting flashes while it is running. But if it has some sort of external control, you probably should check that out. -
Ryan's 150g Marineland Deep Dimension!

Yikes, your mag is way too high. High mag levels actually act to anesthetize inverts. You shouldn't change it by more than 50 per day if memory serves. This may have already been said, but raising your mag to kill hair algae only seems to work if you use Kent Tech-M. -

Welcome to the club. I just recently joined myself. -
Other cool news, looks like there is going to be space for individuals to setup tables pretty inexpensively. Don't know about pricing specifics, but just having a spot to setup a tank will be sweet for the people out there who have great frag setups.

Great looking setup! Where did you get the rock veneer for the front? I love that look. -
Mods please move/remove if this isn't appropriate. I'm also a member of the Delaware Valley Reef Club (DVRC) and they just announced their annual frag swap date. It is going to be on October 7th in Conshohocken, PA. I don't know much about it yet, but they typically get around 20 vendors from all over the area with swap discounted prices on everything and tons of raffles. The speakers haven't been officially announced, but there are some BIG names. Save the date!
-
You also need to factor in that this is a new tank with a relatively high bio-load for it's age.
-
Good luck and keep us posted! Just don't add anymore fish until you get the algae situation taken care of.

Nope. I only feed once a week and have for 5 years. I mix it up a bit between two different varieties of Rod's and PE Mysis. I do put in Nori daily for my Kole.
-
I agree with all of the advice you got. Feeding your fish even twice a week is better. I've never fed daily.
