  1. I had one on my 150g and it made a little impact on my pod population (though I didnt really need them since It was a FOWLR) but i still saw them in my tank enough... with that said The pump you are using and turning it down 1/2 can actually impact the housing of the UV.. I used a larger pump (not nearly as much flow as yours) and turned it down 1/4 but the back pressure eventually made the plastic casing of my UV split at the seam (it was a cheaper one though so it was time + pressure + less than great plastic welds) It was fine in my smaller tank and lasted a little over a year in my larger one.. didnt ever replace and never really noticed much of a problem even then...
  2. Thats a pretty good price used since New its like $120.. the only other way you may get LUCKY is go to some used bookstores around the area, or wait till the libraries sell off books, lol
  3. Gorgeous snakes (though I am glad they are in your house and not mine, lol) and Welcome back to the fishy side of life!
  4. well here in Washington state..if you need an import license you have to apply through the dept of agriculture and wildlife...I assume it would be the same there...call the airport to find out if that's the paperwork they need For importation..if its from another country they may quarantine the stock if you havent made sure its not on the restricted list for coming in the US...
  5. Very pretty..love all the different corallimophs! (They are my fave softies)
  6. getting rid of a filter sock for ease of maint. doesnt make sense to me.. being that they catch alot of stuff that would normally float in the tank or cover all the rubble in your ref/sump..
  7. Yeah.. i used to put my carbon in filter bags in the chamber of my fuge after my socks (normally where a sponge or other filter media go before my chaeto)
  8. more than likely he'd atleast TRY to get the clowns.. and how sad would that be :( how did you acclimate him? and when you say new.. how new was he?
  9. YIPPEE... Hi Greg.. Gosh LOVE your job! I started out working on a Marine Biology degree and life got in the way.. Great to have you here!
  10. OMG that is so funny and yet sad.. a life living in a crate :(
  11. Yeah,, your hose is WAYYYY tooo long.. should be emptying into the fuge/sump not laying on the bottom.. and having alot less water in there will help.. it shouldnt be more than 3/4 full If you had a poweroutage youd have ALOT of water in the bottom of your tank so, personally id cut the hose so that it is only 2 inches longer than the top of your fuge, add a filtersock holder and sock , lower the water level a few inches..
  12. OHHHH that sounds like a FUN place... Love the LFS map!
  13. Yippeee.. sounds like a plan! can't wait for new pictures!
  14. Well I know HOW to curve the front,,, couldnt tell ya how to put a door in it though, lol Take a nice piece of plywood.. ya know the stuff you can get at Home Depot.. that has true ply piece of wood on the front HOPEFULLY you have a table saw... set the blad to 3/4 of the thickness of the wood... AND every half inch on the back side make a slice all the way up.. This makes the board BEND to the shape you want.. couldnt tell you how to frame the piece other than build a rectangle and the easiest thing to do is get a piece of benderboard and set your tank ontop of the rectangular stand.. then place the benderboard directly following your curve... attach that.. then you should be able to attach the ply to that and keep the same curved shape..
  15. AWWWW great idea! I tried to build a little cave thinking mine would burrow, lol He was LAZYYY and then well,, we wont talk about that,...
  16. That one doesnt look bad.. I had the 'silent air' ones that take a D battery,, they were NOT silent,, and had to make the hode super short to get good aeration from it.. and ofcourse with such a big tank I needed like 4.. but oh well...
  17. Its the new factor.... and is SOOO much cheaper to do stuff to a smaller tank! SO have you settled on the 3 fish then... or changing?? and seeing as it has rock and water im guessing your getting close?
  18. Love that idea.. had some battery powered airstones,, blahhhhh and i never worried about my heater,, power went out.. I grabbed a comforter,, OR 3 and over the tank they went.. turned the lights off just incase the power came back on while i was gone,...
  19. He was one of my babies I had for 4 years.. had him, a niger, a clown and a blue jaw :( (not to mention my goldstripe maroon pair) They used to rub my hand when Id put it in the tank .. scared the heck outta my mom when she came to visit once, lol
  20. Not to say you all are not right,, and no name calling.. and I'm not taking any sides...(being new here and all) But I have seen an emerald crab grab a juvenile tang before (when it was sleeping inbetween some rocks) ... Wasn't my tank, not sure how "healthy" the tang was, but it was a big emerald crab and not a big tang.. I dont think a tang swimming by could be caught by one... but it all depends...
  21. Coming from Washington State moving to Woodbridge, VA.. smack dab inbetween my and my husbands commute.. so its equal, lol Never had too many corals,, some mushrooms and ric and zoos (had alot of triggers and tangs in my last tank).. Getting excited to move though..
