  1. Funny as H-E-double hockey sticks bro! lol
  2. So seriously... I get this dark green sludge from my skimmer. I clean it every saturday... Why does it not smell? I hear peeps complaining that it is gawd awful for them to clean their skimmer. I want my poop to stink! What gives? Could it be livestock? I don't have any large carnivors... and only 10 small fish and 2 medium fish in about 300 gallons TSV. Or maybe my nostrils don't work? and what is supposed to smell bad smells good? That would explain my foot fetish I guess...
  3. Perhaps we should set up a thread screening process. It would have to be cleared by 5 different senior posters... All of which have to be over 1000 posts. Each Senior poster will scan each new thread for any annoying newbiness, and deem whether it is useful enough to be posted. They could each have a colored star, and if the thread is good enough will collect ALL FIVE STARS, and maybe all five of the stars can form like a "rainbow brite star" or something like that, showing that it is approved by the greatest master reefers the world has ever known! I of course am joking... but only because I don't think this post would actually make it to that fifth star... Its a toughy.
  4. Ya... size 15 shoes... I can't help it. I trip a lot.
  5. I agree, it is a difficult balance to achieve to make a newbie feel welcome, while also telling him that his question is easily answered with a little research. I am guilty of asking stupid questions, but I usually figure out that the question is stupid when no one replies. This tells me A) its either a dumb question, or B) It is easily answered with the magical google. So if its someone like me who should know better, just ignore the dumb question. But if its a guy with 2 posts, maybe a "welcome to the forums, here is a link for you" would be better...
  6. I too am of this wooded bridge! I have also met the mythical creature that is named "Outlaw". And he didnt even throw me out of his house after I tripped over his USB cord and almost knocked his laptop off the desk lol!
  7. Some times we just need a break from stuff. Don't worry too much about it, take a few weeks off from the forums and come back when you really feel like you want to. Hobbies should be fun, if it isnt it may be time for a new hobby. As far as the forums go, there are so many threads on here that just about everything has been answered, some times I don't post anything because I feel like "thats a quick google search". But unless it is a very serious thread where someone needs help or they are going to lose all of their livestock, why not keep it light with some jokes? Unless the jokes derail the thread of course.
  8. So they have been in my DT for a week now (2 firefish, 1 purple firefish). I didnt see the purple fire fish for the first 4 or 5 days, and basically wrote him off as crab food. But on days 6 I noticed him pop out of a cave really quick during a feeding. I guess it is good he is alive, but darn I was looking forward to watching that guy. I hope he eventually gets over his shyness. The 2 firefish that were bought from seperate tanks at QR are doing well. Sometimes they hang out next to eachother at the top of the water column, and sime times they are on opposite sides. No signs of aggression or anything. I let you know if it changes.
  9. yup, beautiful but A hole galore.
  10. That is awesome! I want to keep mine now and see how big he'll get lol.
  11. So the good news is that all of my bubble algae is gone... The bad news is that the dime sized emerald crab that I put in to control the algae has become FRIGHTENINGLY LARGE!!! I cannot believe how fast this thing has grown... it is easily 3 or 4 times the size in just a few months. I am actually scared he will get a hold of a fish. Should I take him out? maybe make him a sump critter or something?
  12. Its a 120 deep dimension. I'll let you know how it works out lol.
  13. make sure that if you use a sponge from your sump for QT, if you use copper in that QT do not put the sponge back in your sump lol... I almost did that one
  14. Nice to see you havent lost any of them. I am about to bring 2 firefish, 1 purple firefish, and one zebra barred dartfish out of QT this weekend. So far in the QT they have gotten along just fine... Whats weird though is that one of the firefish likes to hang out with the purple firefish, and the other firefish and the zebra are loners. Should be interesting to see what they do once I put them in the DT.
  15. What is your method of doing this? Is it as easy as just netting the fish and putting it in the DT? Or do you go through some elaborate process to make sure you get as little copper as possible in your DT?
  16. I've gotten a few fish from this Petco. Just go on the days the fish are delivered (Tuesday I believe) so they arent exposed to their horrible systems for too long, and more importantly you must QT, QT, QT, QT, QT ALL LIVING THINGS!!!
  17. The Fifth Element! Print me out a Leeloo!
  18. I saw the ich post in the beginners forum, and it reminded me that I no longer have ich! I guess this hypo thing worked... Now I just need to make sure everything goes through 4 weeks of medicated QT before it enters my system. It is hard to do when you have a wife and daughter who are constantly hounding you about adding your new fish to the "big" tank. I have to keep reminding them about the fish we lost do to ich last year. I still don't know if it was worth the pain in the A that this was...
  19. nice catch... ya those are friggin big!
  20. Yes and as someone who has had you (Adam) build me a sump, and have also gone through the learning process of it (just for fun mostly). I will always just recommend that someone goes to Adam, rather than learn how to do it themselves lol. Its too much time, effort, and skill, not to mention the countless dollars it takes to aquire the proper tools. But that being said, it was fun learning how to do it.
  21. Oh ya, the final... and most important thing I learned was that you need an EXTREMELY flat surface to work on. Obviously if you are making smaller things its not so important. But if you are making 4' to 6' tanks, It makes things much easier.
  22. a planer I here is better for edges than a router, but way more expensive. Just CL yourself a decent router, and google good router bits for acrylic. I tend to forget details like router bit types after I've made my purchase...
  23. sounds like you are covering all the bases with the research. I made sure I read everything I needed to know before gathering all of the necessary tools. You'll need a table saw with a high tooth count blade for acrylic, a good router for edging. You can get away with the razor blade method for doing your edges, as long as its a smaller size box that you are making, but since my end game for learning how to do this was a 100gal 8' long frag tank, I opted for the router. and most importantly, get scraps for practice, you'll want to practice the pins method a few times before "going for it".
