  1. Didn't put it back. I was experimenting and I did see that they can be good after I gave him a quick spray. I don't want to kill every critter in my tank-biodiversity is what I'd like. I'm not partial to being stung, if I'm being honest. That being said, I will committ to the club that I will not murder any in the future if they're just detritivores (man, iPhone had a heck of a time with that word- it wanted to write Detroit wh*res .
  2. Ok so I hit him with a little windex (figured ammonia is no bueno) and he got all bristly and angry looking!
  3. Haha well guess what I just found.. (I have no idea which is why I'm asking)... Two things...clear snail looking shell on lower right and then the pink, er, elephant top left. The rock is currently out of tank and I'm wondering what's next. Is he going to move?
  4. Thanks for the suggestion big country! This was a light my housemate let me use briefly. It never had one but I thought since he lent it to me I could find a replacement. I'm going to search online for the replacement this evening.
  5. Hey looking for help identifying this anemone. I don't see bulbous ends like a majano. Here are two photos.
  6. Yep retaining nut and rubber cover. I'll look tomorrow. I was thinking an aquarium supply place would have it
  7. Yep the mandarin is the driving force. Plus I want a lot of biodiversity in the tank. I love the input on the little flakes and using the black bucket. Is it ok if I actually use a 20g breeder I already have? I love that I don't need phyto. Although would zoas and acans ever benefit from that added to the tank?
  8. Cool Thanks Josh. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Give me the good, bad, and ugly please.
  9. Im missing a part for the refugium light-standard freshwater cheapy 24" (the kind that you get at the fish store). It's the rubbery threaded thing that keeps the on/off button outside of the fixture (if it's not on, when you push the button it goes into the fixture). where the H-E--double hockey sticks can i get this? i checked marine depot.
  10. Hey I'm headed to fairfax today. Any suggestions on good lfs's between there and dc? Id rather not go west if possible.
  11. Hey everyone! Pretty day out today! I was going to culture some pods, and came across this page. I am curious to hear some feedback. It looks to be fairly simple. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2003/2/breeder
  12. ok thanks. yes i didn't rinse them. so you thaw and rinse. Ill see if I can get a little.
  13. Wow that's neat. Had no idea the orp went way up. What's next a chlorine reactor instead of ozone haha
  14. Sorry this is the established cube system- rock sand and water transplanted from a members breakdown. I have typhoon III Extreme rodi and it's 0tds but I'm wondering if the high phosphates are bc I added two cubes of mysis in the last 3 days? Also I removed the baggie of little phosphate white cylinders from my roommates freshwater filter-I borrowed it to run the little cube, and found my nitrates to be wacky. I gutted filter contents and now just use filter pad carbon pad and anti phosphate pad.
  15. Ok so i don't want to post another message-Ill just ask here. My KH is at 12, or 215ppm (approx). tested twice. feedback?
  16. Thanks Mike. I actually bought the TISBE Reef Pods from House Of Tropicals, and there were 3 pods. yes, that's right-3 pods. zero movement. I added them to the tank and...bubkus. Apparently the batch they have there is worthless. i begged them to order another round, but they wanted nothing to do with it until they sold out of the 4 or 5 they had left. I added a whole bottle of tigger pods-at this point, $40 on pods and NOTHING in my little tank. so, I'm hoping someone out there has them crawling all over and can part with a half cup chock full
  17. calling all pods..calling all pods....anyone coming by Annapolis on their way to the Starboard closing at the beach this weekend--I'd love some PODS for my new tank--I need to build it up before I add fish and inverts etc. .... Even though I live in Annapolis, I will be in the Montgomery county area over the next couple days-if you can catch some, i'll take whatever's available. I need biodiversity! I have a friend in Arlington that can pick up some from whoever, and she travels all over NoVa for work. PM me. How does it work--can someone just scoop up a big cup of them like baby brine shrimp? Does anyone on here breed them specifically so I can seed my tanks? I'm ready to make it happen
  18. HAHAHAH. Paul, you must not be from the North shore originally...this sounds like such a south shore thing to do .... I come up to Huntington a lot because one of my really good buddies owns a Sea Tow Franchise up there. We get drunk like we're being executed the following day, and then wake up wishing we were. Im a newbie so this is great reading. I think you need a blog.
  19. sure enough, i nudge it again, and it closes..lmao. alright, so tell me what do they eat?
