  1. Sweet! Thanks for the ID and advice, I'll try to remove cautiously. It is kinda awesome looking, but hundreds of them wouldn't be.
  2. It looks like a mushroom with a conical stalk, so I don't think it's a slug, but I'll see if it moves. At first I thought it was bubble algae. Is this red bubble algae? If it is I gotta get it out.
  3. I have never seen this round purple thing with orange spots in my tank until today. Do you know what it is and if it is good or bad? Thanks!
  4. Thanks! I skimmed through most of it and I saw a pattern. I also saw Grim's website (thanks Max) also. I am going to order from Reef Geek the following: ATI - 3 Blue +, 2 Aquablue Special, 1 Purple + as Max suggested. Grim suggests this arrangement: Aquablue Blue ATI Purple Plus or Fiji Purple Blue Blue Aquablue
  5. Thanks everyone for the advice. Seems like aftermarket and ATI is the way to go. This seems like it would really bring out the colors. How long have you had this setup? How is growth compared to your previous bulbs?
  6. I've got a Red Sea Max 250 Tank that is an all in one 65 gallon tank with 6 34w T5 linear lights (117w 10,000k and 117w Actinic). Red Sea says that their research shows that these bulbs are optimal for this tank. I have had good growth (post #9) but the colors of my corals aren't so great, at least by my eye(s). I have corals that are red, green, blue, pink and orange mostly. I was thinking of replacing one bulb with a fiji purple and keeping 3 10,000k and 2 Actinic. I have read about other bulbs such as aquablue specials, etc but want to make sure my corals can photosynthesize efficiently and know they do with the current bulbs...they just don't look great. Does this make sense or are there better bulbs out there? My current bulbs are made by Red Sea. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Haven't had any trouble except curiosity like in the pic above. Jawfish usually opens his mouth wide to scare off anything that gets close. I've even seen him try to bite my happy Kole Tang. Never seen any fish attack him including my blue tang. Hope your's is just hiding somewhere. How big is your jawfish?
  8. I know what you mean. Mine stole my frag plug with red hornets to use as his cave door cover! Dude is strong. I wonder what a bite on the finger would feel like?
  9. Thanks. Can you believe that photo is taken with an iPhone? Jaws is a great character to have in the tank - had him for about 6 months and he/she is still grumpy as H-E-double hockey sticks. Hope jaws sticks around for a long time. I've got the most amazing photo I have ever taken that I will upload that involves this fish.
  10. Thanks for the info! It'll be exciting to see where it goes. What you lookin' at, huh?
  11. You might be a reefer if you get upset when someone refers to a coral as a plant.
  12. Can you maybe trade yours for a fixture with LEDs that are more spaced out? Your's is sweet though.
  13. This already looks awesome! Tagging along to see you add your frags and please do continue to narrate your videos.
  14. I spent a few great summers working there in the late 90's with dogfish sharks, clams, squid, sea urchins and horseshoe crabs - mostly cytoskeletal work. Spent a lot of nights at the Captain Kidd. It must be great working with these guys since they reproduce so quickly! Do you rent lab space there during the summer?
  15. Can you help explain this please? I bought an ORA Red Planet frag (wish I wasn't so scared of cutting corals off of frag plugs back then) and it grew and encrusted on the rock. However, it's growing on one side only and I don't think flow is stronger in that direction and the same goes for light. Is this normal? Why wouldn't the other short branches grow? I'm not complaining, just curious in case I am doing something wrong. First pic - after a few weeks Second pic - after three months Third pic - after three months, other angle Thanks!
  16. Steve, do you recognize some of those frags?! Exited about the 500 since I have grown to trust Red Sea products. It'll be expensive! I wonder if they'll switch to LED lights with the recent upserge in demand?
  17. That's so awesome! Congrats. How complex are these nervous systems? I miss the MBL.
  18. Thanks! It's the all in one Red Sea Max 250 with all equipment, filters, skimmer, pump, lights, etc built in. Just add electricity, water, rocks and living things.
  19. Love it! All are great macros, but the glass shrimp is my favorite.
  20. I started with a stock Red Sea Max 250 tank nine months ago and ended up with...a stock Red Sea Max 250 tank with a JBJ ATO and 2 strips of stunner blue LED's that have issues. I want it as simple as possible. Below is a screenshot of a I filmed with my iPhone today. Check out the and let me know what you think. I'll hope to continue to post photos and videos here as things change in the tank and things seem to change on a daily basis. Suggestions or comments? Let em fly...with your typed words.
  21. Amazing corals and pics! Impressive all around. I would love to see this tank some day! I have never seen a Tyree Setosa Montipora that large before.
