  1. I ment that in a good way. At least I can know that my problem isnt too much phosphate...confirms my thinking that I have too little, since that reading may be a little smidge higher cause I took the water sample right after feeding. So 5ppb phosphorus and .015ppm PO4?
  2. .015ppm? geeeeeezzzzz
  3. No experience with them...but I like the sound of this question
  4. On any app nowadays they always have a section where you can include supplements including "multimedia supplements". I think its mostly for kids who are interested in submitting videos or pics of their music or talents, but I'm going to take full advantage of it as I'm writing my essay about my tank and what it has taught me.
  5. I'm looking for someone to do a photoshoot of my tank and my whole system. I'm going to put these photos on my college applications as I submit them this fall. If anyone is near me that would be willing to help me out, I'd be more than happy to pay in frags or cash. Or you could help a soon to be poor college student out . I'd like to find someone who can do professional quality photography as my camera and photography skills suck. I'm located in Bethesda, MD and I'm looking to have this done within the next 2-4 weeks. Thank you all so much
  6. My lights are a TEK 8x54w T5 fixture. Bulbs are 4 ATI blue+, 2 ATI Aquablue Special, 1 KZ Fiji Purple, 1 ATI Purple+ My lights also hang a solid 6" from the water to allow for ventilation from a fan blowing across the top of the tank. Actinics are from noon till 10pm and are 3 Blue+, and 1 Fiji Purple. Daylights are from 2pm until 8pm and are 1 Blue+, 1 Purple+ and 2 Aquablue Specials. I'm trying to get a hold of the PAR meter soon and take measurements. I'm not sure I was clear earlier, I have good color in my LPS and most SPS, just in some of my acros and especially my montis the color is paled and not rich. For example, my M. Digita which is about 2" off the sand, is a pale orange like that of a creamsicle, not a vivid orange like your fingers after eating cheeteos.
  7. It's a Reef Octopus NWB150, the new model with the gate valve included. I also do run EcoBak biopellets if that clears anything up...I run around 350ml in an Avast MR-5 18" reactor, and have a ton of flow through them. Edit: I also run (2) 100 micron socks on my drain lines from the DT, mostly to catch bubbles but they do get filthy. They are changed semi-religiously once a week
  8. Don't bury the live sand with the dead sand...it will kill the organisms you are trying to introduce...
  9. Yeah, I'm not sure I can feed anymore than I currently do (logistically and cost wise). The following is my feeding regimen: Everyday: 1. At least twice a day, if not 3 times per day, a portion that is about the size of a frozen cube of one of the following either Rod's Food, my Homemade Food (seafood counter, PE mysis, Cylopeeze, DT's, Nori, Oyster Feast, Roti Feast) or a mix of PE mysis and frozen Cyclopeeze. 2. A pinch of NLS Thera+ Medium Size Pellets whenever I walk by the tank (about 3x a day) Every other night: 1. Reef Nutrition Oyster-Feast - 20ml 2. Reef Nutrition Roti-Feast - 25ml 3. Brightwell Restōr (coral zooxanthellae/amino acid supplement) - 20ml 4. DT's Phytoplankton - 50ml 5. Cyclopezee (small pinch into the coral liquid food mix) 6. Aquavitro Fuel - 45ml 7. Brightwell CoralAmino - 20 drops (~2ml) I dose the following everyday: 80ml Brightwell Potassion-P solution 60ml Brightwell Hydrat-Mg 6 drops of Brightwell Lugols If you have any other ideas of what it could be...please let me know. I'm not sure feeding more is going to be possible...
  10. TB aquatics has them for 454.99 with a free pH probe thrown in. They said they are expecting them to restock within the next week.
  11. Well currently they are 0.00ppm on a Hanna Phos. Checker low range (not ultra low range). I'm trying to borrow an ULR one to measure it. I have no nusience algae in the tank, and I have a lump of cheato to absorb any PO4 and NO3 that the biopellets/skimmer miss. I also get 0 with a Salifert Phosphate kit looking through the top and sides it is completely clear.
  12. Sounds great, I'll be there towards the later side of the social as well.
  13. do yourself a favor and wait for a sale then get the full Apex. You'll love the 2 ph probes so you can monitor your tank ph and the ph of your Ca reactor. Plus you won't have to buy add on's. The JR really isn't even worth it in my eyes, it just lacks too many features.
  14. Mine is totally clear from the side, never even bother with the top. I'm actually trying to figure out a way to raise my nitrates (very little) so that I can get the intensity and rich color back in my SPS, for some reason my LPS look great, but quite a few of my SPS especially monti's are quite pale even on the sand under T5's. Oh yeah and I way overfeed by the normal definition. Yesterday was about 3 times with rod's, then about 300ml of liquid foods at night (roti feast, oyster feast, dt's, restor, amino's, etc). That's the normal routine lol. I guess I just need more fish
  15. How do you measure your nitrate in your tank? My tank shows ZERO on a Salifert. It's just as clear as plain water. And I bought a new kit last weekend, and have tested with 3 different kits. Also I've tried an Elos test kit which showed ZERO. If you have any other resources/kits please let me know! Looking for a good answer here Thanks
  16. Hello all, I'm looking to borrow a Hanna Instruments Ultra Low Range Phosphorus Colorometer. Anyone have one that they'd be willing to let me use to measure my phosphate? I'm getting 0.00 out of a normal Hanna Phos. Checker, plus I do run an ULNS, so I'm trying to figure out what my true phosphate level is. I'm happy to pay for the reagent for a test or work out something else. I'll be at the social Saturday. Thanks, Max
  17. I ran into this problem and it was very simple. I just made a slice in the screen of the top in the shape of an X where my loc line pokes up over the top of my overflow boxes. I think this allows enough "give" without allowing my wrasses a gateway to the floor.
  18. Yeah... I feel like I can look around a bit more and find something for less than about $80 shipped...
  19. Wow those are perfect! Any idea who makes something like this in the US? I'd hate to see shipping from the UK plus the exchange rate sucks.
  20. Yeah but I'm 17...just finished building AND PAYING FOR an inwall 120 with a fish room. So dropping at least 1k on LED's aint happening. Plus I already have bulbs for next year and my parents pay the power bill
  21. Yeah, that's why I want to do the fan mod, pushing roughly 300cfm of air through this fixture is pretty insane cooling...I'm going to try to keep it (fixture housing) cool to the touch. I have good overall color to the tank, but I miss the actinic pop. I currently run Front to Back: (the center 4 are my actinics) All Bulbs are ATI unless otherwise stated. Blue+ Aquablue Special Blue+ Current 460nm (yes its a piece of junk, I'm looking for pop and this was the best of the bulbs I had on hand for pop) Fiji Purple Blue+ KZ Coral Light (new gen) Blue+ I have my actinics on from noon till 10pm and the daylights from 1 till 9. Fixture is ~6" off the WATER not the RIM, and I do have the splashguard on.
  22. Yeah I'm trying to deal with that problem...I guess I could try wiring it like an IceCap retro and skipping the 4th bulb's endcaps and just tying the wires together. Supernova - Any shot of you posting a few pics next time you clean out your fixture?
  23. I'm thinking about a few mods for my Sunlight Supply 8x54 fixture. First off, the fan mod that's been done many times Link here Second and the more important question...I want to put LED's in place of at least one of my bulbs, I miss that insane actinic pop of the Royal Blue's that I see in my frag tank (run by 2 Par38 LED bulbs). Is it in any way possible to use the aluminum reflector of my Tek Fixture as a heatsink for the LEDs? I'm looking to take up the space in my reflector of one T5 bulb that is 48" long, how many LEDs do I need? I'm really not interested in a PAR boost as I'm already getting good color and growth even just 2" above my sandbed of SPS, and my colors are all light and pastel (zeo-like) so I know I'm getting enough light, now I'm looking for the right color. Thanks for all the input!
  24. I just upgraded to an Apex from a reefkeeper cause I wanted 2 ph probes and internet without buying even more modules. Since you've missed labor day sales, just wait for halloween or thanksgiving then you will have figured it out.
