  1. avast is the best ato in my opinion, no floats to get clogged. Set it and forget it
  2. I think im going to take the tank down, and switch over to some type of nano that I can have at my townhouse. Keep a few corals and, one of the gobis I have. Its just not feasible for me to maintain a tank that isnt at my residence..:( anyone have one of those all in one nano cubes?
  3. Haha, yeah thats from your old tank. Yeah next time Im over at my parents house. The top monti is hugee, and unfortunately it has blocked light from the lower green one.
  4. I have been in this hobby for about 7 or 8 years. I would consider myself a novice with a descent amount of experience. My tank has had its ups and downs, and I have rebuilt and tore it down a handful of times. Currently its been running the best it ever has, been going for two years. I noticed a direct correlation between the amount of time and the amount of money I had to spend on my tank and the success with corals and fish. The tank in question is a 90 gallon ocianic on a custom stand. I finally got to a point where I had the equipment necessary where my tank could develop; lights filtration, etc. The tank is currently not at the house which I live in, its at my parents house where I haven't lived for about two years. Well after the first year or so I stopped adding corals/rock to my tank, at this point I thought I didn't have any invasive. Well about 3 months ago aptasia and bubble algae seemed to come out of nowhere, even though nothing has been added for a very long time. The bubble algae actually doesn't bother me, and the crabs which I added to the tank seem to be picking at it slowly. However the aptasia really bothers me, and every attempt I have made to kill them results in them coming back bigger and stronger in size and numbers. Tried shooting them with boiling water, this caused them to spread for some reason. Tried putting kalk paste over them, which didn't really work. And the 6 peppermint shrimp, 2 different batches just seem to hang out in holes and not touch them. I really enjoy this hobby, but this battle with aptasia seems like a loosing one and I feel like they will one day completely take over my tank. With that said I am trying to decide to get out for awhile and sell off all my gear/livestock, and wait until I have a house of my own and build that 300 gallon monster.... So this thread isnt super boring to look at heres a picture of my tank from awhile ago. coral has grown in alot more, those montis on the side are hugeee now. And so this thread actually has a point and is not just my sad rant, what do you all think a custom ~90 gallon ocianic tank with a custom built furniture grade stand is worth? Includes a top which would be good for led or t5

  12. For water level id recomend an avast ato connected to a brs or similar doser pump. The benifit of the avast ATO is that there are no moving parts, it uses air pressure( I believe) to sense the level of the water. I set mine up like 2 years ago and havnt moved it at all. Only had to replace the low quality pump I have attached to it
  13. I picked up an apex jr because it was cheap, and I didnt need to controll alot. It came with an eithernet port, and comes configured with a web server on the device. This let me controll everything from my phone the instant I pluged it in. Now assuming you need more than 4 plugs an a tempurature, id look at getting the Apex SR or what ever the big model is, its super easy to program if you can understand some basic logic.
  14. why do I always miss things like this.....
  15. I have an apex jr which has my titanium heater on one of the outlets. I think that it may be the same heater which you are talking about. Everything seems to work great
  16. On my lunch break I went over to my parents house where my tank is. I shot a bunch of the aiptasia with boiling water. Well see how that turns out. If it doesnt fix it Ill look into ordering some of these, or maybe try pepermint shrimp first
  17. I have some de 14ks around somewhere
  18. your tank is a pretty good looking sewer. Wish all sewers looked that good.
  19. After moving from my parents house it has been incresingly difficult to give my tank the attention it deserves. Somehow I got aiptasia in my tank, even though I have not introduced any new coral or rock for well over six months. Anyways I am wondering if anyone has Berghia Nudi, as I hear these can solve the problem.
  20. Does anyone else thing that Tanked show gives people a false impression of what is required to set up a SW tank. They set up tank, add tap water, add "bacteria", and then just dump the fish in...
  21. yours?
  22. I would never swipe my card into one of thoes....
