Jeff really does make nice tanks. He built my sump and I love it and everyone that sees it loves it. When I get some money together for my "BIG" tank project, I am def. calling him!
I am currently using TM Bio-Actif Salt and it is extremely low on Calcium and Magnesium. Cal = 320ppm and Mag = 1050. I do not feel comfortable on dosing as my tank is fairly new and I am not trying to get into all that yet.
But I wanted to know what would be the effects if say I were to cut the TM with say CoralLife Salt which tests alot higher in CAL and MAG?
Kinda like a 50/50 mix? Of course I would go small at first with say 10% WWC.
Let me know your thoughts
It just makes the tank have a greenish hue. But the water itself is not green. But since I have been running the phos reactor and increased my flow it's looking alot better!
I picked up a few frags from epleeds last week and one of which was a Mini Carpet Anemone. Well yesterday I decided to feed it. It was like the coolest thing I have ever seen!! I fed it a small piece of raw shrimp and it completely engulfed it!! LOL.... I wish they got bigger than the size of a quarter because it was truely amazing to watch for how small it was! Had to share this
Green Dust Algae is basically a really fine film of algae that only shows up on your glass. No where else. And it makes your water look green. Yeah real great group of people here!! The rowaphos really did an excellent job. I mean I still have alittle bit but its alot better than it was and its like you guys said.... its a new tank and I am sure i will battle many things. Its all part of the hobby
Thanks Bob I will def. check them out my next go around. Where are they located at and do they have a retail store or online only?
Ok.... The nextreef Phos reactor and the rowaphos completely eliminated the green algae dust!! As well as polish my water!!! I am so stoked that it worked!!
I picked up another Vortecj Mp40w and I now have them both sync'd up. It's helping a little bit but the tank is still very cloudy and greenish. I also picked up a Nextreef MR1 and am using rowaphos to see if it helps. Is this something that will just go away on its own with time or do you guys think something else might help? I just want that beautiful crystal clear look most of you have.
Everything all chopped up/ rinsed in RO water and ready for mixing
All mixed up and added a bottle phytoplankton, selcon, and garlic extract
Bagged up and ready for freezing
So for about $30 I have about 5 pounds of reef/fish food. I actually have so much that if anybody would like a free sample I can split up a couple of the bags and give you a small freezer bag size to try out. Just let me know.
I decided to hit up the seafood market (Grand Mart-Cntrvle) and make my own fresh batch of reef/fish food.
Everything was prepared and washed in RO water and supplements added. So here we go....
Prep Station
Dried Nori
Fresh Mussels
Fresh Shrimp
Fresh Squid
Baby Octopus
Fresh Scallops
Shucked Oysters
Brine Shrimp, Krill, Mysis Shrimp
I have some zoo frags and a Hammer Coral Frag. My skimmer is a My Reef Creations MR2. It has been pulling some nasties out of the water and I run it 24/7.
I think I will pick up another powerhead this weekend and see if that helps as well as doing weekly water changes. Thanks alot fellas!
Everything is brand new, lights, skimmer, pumps, everything. I do Bi-weekly water changes. I actually just did a 30 Gallon water change Monday night.
I use Tropic Marin Bio-Actif Salt.
Ok my tank is faily new (4 weeks). All my readings are great. But when I come home from work everyday I have green dust Algae all over my glass BAD!!! I have a 1 Vortech MP40w and my Mag. 9.5 return for flow. Could it be I have lack of flow?
My lights are 8x54w T5 ATI Powermodule. I have the lights on for 10 hours a day. They are 6 inches above my water. My only inhabitants are 30 snails and a couple coral frags. All are doing fine and look good. Also I use a RO/DI and my water is 0 on the TDS meter.
Could this just be because the tank is so new? Lack of flow? Too much lighting? Maybe all of that?
What do you guys recommend?
My tests:
Salinity: 1.024
Temp: 78-79
Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 0
Nitrites: 0
Phos: 0
PH: 8.0
Dkh: 8.2
Cal: 400
Mag: 1100
John, my tank is finally done cycling! Do you have any pics of your Grade A Picasso's and how exactly do they differ from a B grade?
Very interested! Also I will be by tomorrow or Thursday to pick up some CUC.
One MP40W on my 90 on short Pulse mode 100% with the addition of my return, I have the perfect flow I want right now. I dont think theres a dead spot in the entire tank.
Hey John need to get some T5 Bulbs, 54Watt, 48". Just checking to see if you have any in stock. I can swing by on Friday if so.
Looking for ATI Blue Plus, Aquablue Special, GE 6500 Daylight..... Basically trying to get a look similar between 14K-20K Halides if you know what I mean.
I'll need 8 Bulbs
