  1. Eric W.'s tank is awesome, that alone is enough reason to use it!! I started using DT Phytoplankton after he told me about it. No empiric evidence yet, but everyone seems happy. My tank seems to cloud a bit if I use 2 oz. I add 2 oz. every other day. Eric.
  2. I am not sure if what I have is a bristle worm I do not think so, but I am curious: When I leave for work at 0515 I check my tank. I almost always see a couple of straight, thin line, brown somethings going from one of my LR to the sand bed. This morning I only saw one and instead of going all the way to the sand bed its "end" was wiggling, which made me think of this thread. Any thoughts on it? I know pics are good but I need better image editing software. Thanks, Eric.
  3. The numbers so far are pretty interesting with a pretty even split between use QT and no QT. I hope people continue to take the poll and vote. I am an impatient sole (bad for hobby) so I want to make sure I stick to something for my next fish which will likely be a Copperband, which are known to have feeding challenges. I was also curious as to how people QT a Mandarin, since I would think most QT tanks do not have an established live sand bed with food ???
  4. There seems to be a lot of ways to do quarantine, I am curious as to how others do it. If you do something not covered by the poll please post it. Also if you use any medication - what do you use? I am also curious whether any LFS is thought to maintain their fish in a way where quarantine is not necessary. Thank you, Eric.
  5. My Coral Beauty seems very happy and I have not caight him picking at anything.
  6. What is any are people's experience with Copperbands? Safe or not safe? Thanks, Eric,
  7. When I retire, move to the Villages in Florida and build one of those enclosed backyard batting cages they have on the houses (lenia?) I can get one of these - oh yeah and the money part... until then looks like I will need to settle for the Baltimore Aquarium.
  8. It was a pretty light precipitate. Yes, my salinity was already high - I actually bought one of the extra GB refractometers this week and found out my salinity was 1.030. Now it is slowly coming down. Since the swing arm was sooo off I was topping off a little with SW. Hmm, I do see a used PH Monitor on the board. I did add the Kalk to the Sump, but the auto top off sounds like a great idea. I will do that in the future. Thanks and thanks for the answer. I will leave it alone. That means I can go to bed!! The zoa and xenia are coming back - the anemone just tends to be cranky, at least in my set up. But the tanks looks IMHO super great. Thanks, Eric.
  9. I added Kalk a little quick tonight (2 gallons of fresh RODI 1 tsp per gallon) to my 75G. Saw some precipitate out under the actinics. Also added 2G RODI. After making some water came back to find a chunk of zoas gone gray and my zenia all sucked up into its "shafts". Doing my chemistry check Salinity 1.028 and PH jumped from 8.4 to 8.8. Oh yeah and my GT anemoine is all sucked up. Should I do a salt water change or pull out some salt and add RODI. I was thinking 5G of either. I do not think I have any PH down.
  10. John, Why does one test fpr Phosphorous (algae?) and Magnesium? Thanks, Eric.
  11. If you want to see an Anemone being cut up - check out this YouTube video by a WAMAS member. Good questions BTW, I have a lot to learn also. Video
  12. Thanks for the advice - is there a chart somewhere for that -- I have 75G tank, 20G sump, about 120 punds of rock and a 4 inch bed. I normally top off w/RODI about a gallon a day. Just started with Kalk. I added two gallons on my way out the door this morning.
  13. I hear you. Frankly I just was looking for a way to fund my new crack coral addiction!! Thanks again for the Refractometer, looks like I am running 1.030 - so need to add Freshwater.
  14. Well that is cool then. I have a bunch of these that broke off also showing the growth. Is it best to glue these to frag disks? What is the going market for them (I have about 7 or 8)? In the picture, what are the two corals above the Acan but below the mushrooms? They are to the left of the Digitata. Thanks!
  15. The white is more pronounced now... Digitata Photo Also can any one identify the two similiar corals above the Acan ? Thanks.
  16. Yes - that is exactly it, although I would say I have more white than these show. Guy - No thank you for running the refractometer out to me. I was aslos picking up some rics from Ianna so it was all good. again, thanks for offering that extra. Let me know on the clams. Eric.
  17. I will get a pic up - thanks. I have 6MB camera and no image editing software to speak of that will crop etc. So I tried to load the raw file last night no good. Thanks I will get something up tonight. Are Digitata frags in demand? I have silicone glue, should I put the broken pieces on Frag disks? Thanks, Eric.
  18. Another one of my I do not know enough questions.... I have what I believe to be a brown Digitata (It could be a brown Bird's Nest, but I am not sure, the ends are not sharp). I have one 4"x4" colony of this with intertwined branches probably 3" high. When I moved it a bunch of pieces broke off. The colony is at the top of my rock and the broken branches are in the sand. Almost all of te main colony branches have developed white ends and the pieces all have white ends. Is this bleaching or something else? Thanks. Eric. BTW, should I just start a Tank thread and ask all of these questions there? Thanks again, Eric.
  19. Well the silly anemone seems happy this morning. Its tentacles are out about 3-4" from the rock. Can it menace an Acan Lord? Because that Acan is firmly attached on a foot or more piece of rock - which is not going anywhere... I would now like to move the rock it once lived on since that puppy is about 8 inches long but that may perturb the anemone. Maybe I will move it slowly away. It takes up some sand that I would like for other things (although thinking out loud I may not be able to use that area any way since it will be in the reach of the tentacles...) This is harder than raising 5 year olds...
  20. Trying to keep the zoa polyps and the xenia happy along with the anemone is entertaining (not)! Thanks.
  21. It was one night. I added 10 more gallons to the holding tank and then moved them over to home over two days. They are all on the 75G now. Its my anemone that is giving me coniptions now... see my other post tonight. Thanks for your concern, Eric
  22. Glad someone finally said something.... I am thinking I may need to feed it better. Bethesda Jim gave the whole tank flake. I am using Rod's Reef dissolving in SW and then adding it. But not doing target feeding. Since this is in some ways a new tank there may not be all of the small food floating around that it is used to having. Don't know guess I am not smart enough to out think something that is completely responsive to its environment...
