  1. I'd like to welcome AquaHaus to the WAMAS family! Thanks, Adam, for sponsoring your local club! And thanks for the very, very generous raffle donation which I'll be announcing soon. AquaHaus is located at 7025 Brookfield Plaza, Springfield, VA 22150. (That's the old Quantum Reefs location for those that remember.) Adam has cleaned it up and is ready to roll. Give them a call at (703) 388-8555. Good luck, Adam!
  2. First, try taking a knife and making a clean cut at the base where it's torn (if it is, in fact, torn). The clean cut may be less traumatic than a rip. Second, you're going to have to put it up against something so it can reattach. And, finally, you may just have to give it a week or two to recover from the change. Toadstools can be pretty resilient. Heck, you can completely behead the stalk and frag the head and all the frags and the stalk will develop into new toadstools.
  3. Ha! Love the humor. It carries thru to the description as well. Description Home grown special personally selected to be the best piece. Super resilient to pest, lighting, AND temperature. To ensure it keeps the excellent coloration, make sure you use a specialize brush to clean this awesome coral off once in a while. Sent from my SM-T818V using Tapatalk
  4. Google "Rocket Engineer Stand" and you'll find a lot of old plans. My first stand (for a 90) was built using this plan. (That was over 15 years ago.) I then skinned the frame with 1/4" oak plywood and used 3/4" oak to trim the bottom and the top of the stand. The top trim extended above the top flat surface of the stand (where the tank sat) to hide the plastic trim on the bottom of the tank. The home for the original design was on Reef Central.
  5. Great observations. Adam's installed a lot of tanks for clients. These newer XL300's apparently have 19mm thick glass - well beyond what the MP10QD is rated for. I wouldn't have expected it to be so thick, but that's where Adam's experience comes in!
  6. One of our longtime members and member of the FragFest coordinating team, @mogurnda, has prepared a handout that we're making available in conjunction with this year's FragFest meeting. "Fragging, Mounting, and Caring for Corals - an excessively brief summary" is a two page primer on fragging, mounting and caring for your corals. It's neither exhaustive to cover all corals nor is it intended to address all situations or techniques that you may encounter, but for somebody new to the hobby it can help give you a start. Use the QR code below of go to this link to download the softcopy handout.
  7. I'd like to welcome WAMAS' newest sponsor, Reef Nerd Aquatics! Thanks, Lynn, for supporting your local club! And good luck in this new venture! @lynn.reef.nerd
  8. I'd like to announce that VIBRANT CORALS is donating 10 colonies for fragging to this event. VIBRANT is a wholesale-only outlet specializing in supplying corals from Australia, Indonesia and Tonga. If your LFS or coral retailer is not bringing in VIBRANT corals, ask them why not! Thanks, VIBRANT for your generous support of WAMAS!
  9. Free ICP-Mass Spec test just for coming to FragFest! ICP-Analysis is joining us as a club sponsor and has made a very, very generous donation of 150 ICP mass spec test kits that we'll be giving out to members that attend FragFest 2022. Limit 1 per member / family. First come, first served. While supplies last. Doors open at 12. Summarized from their website: This is the first Mass Spec test offered to the aquarium industry. It is 1000x more accurate than traditional ICP OES. ICP-Analysis uses a five-point calibration curve and certified standards to guarantee accuracy. There's not any test more accurate available.
