Melev has some good tips for those (like me) who are photographically challenged: http://www.melevsreef.com/fotos.html -R

Brian, My 4 a.m. math (no time to check it!) says you'll only get ~73 gph through a 1/2" bulkhead, ~292 gph through a 1" with 2" of drop. I meant to say that the bulkhead from the main tank to the sump should be larger than the one from the fuge to the main tank. If they are the same diameter, and you're at the max flow rate, if for any reason the flow to the sump is slightly less (unequal growth of biofilm, etc.), you'll eventually end up with water on the floor. Here is the formula if you want to check my work: http://reefscapes.net/articles/breefcase/fluid_dynamics.html -R Disclaimer: Fluid dynamics and math are a long way from being my field of expertise!

Agreed with grav...the flow through a given size bulkhead is dependent on the head above it, or in your case, the drop from it. If the vertical distance from the bulkhead in the fuge to the water level in the main tank is only 2" (and my 4 a.m. math is correct), you will need a 1" bulkhead to get close to 300 gph into the main tank. And I would use a larger bulkhead from the main tank to the sump, just for safety. -R

More than you wanted to know: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-03/sj/index.php PFO is a brand name. -R

I wouldn't do it. It's certainly a winner in terms of stability for any new arrivals, and convenience for the tank owners but all it takes in one ich cyst or acro flatworm to survive the UV, and you would regret it. Okay, I might do it if I got a written guarantee from the UV maker that it's 100% effective against all known & unknown parasites, and they posted a $20,000 bond just in case they were wrong. Nope, still wouldn't -R

I put two drops into my Cheetos every morning, and not only is my coloration great, but I've never plagued by pesky algae. -R OH I should read more carefully....dschflier beat me to the punch! Seriously, I always used to add a bit to my fish food....not sure if it helped, but it didn't seem to hurt, either. -R

Just got a confo from Beth@PacificEast that they will deliver to the WAMAS meeting and not charge shipping. Schweet! -R

Up for your consideration is a Steve Tyreee Super-Special Limited Edition turd...it's brown, but will color up nicely in your tank. Seriously, since I'm just getting back into the hobby, I don't have much to offer for the fragfest, and wouldn't even post this, if not for the kindness and generosity that several WAMAS members have already shown me. If anyone wants Caulerpa (yes...Caulerpa) frags, let me know...I have the mini & the weirdo farlowii. -Robert

Greedy, greedy! Dave, I'll bring ya a frag to the SPRING meeting, if you ask nicely Or did you just want to see the reddest Sarcophyton (not -um) I've ever seen get sliced & diced? Lookee what I just found on my doorstep: No wonder my FedEx packages keep getting mis-delivered...the driver must hate me! -R

Thanks guys/gal. The setup is very simple, a 29G tank with a Bak-Pak skimmer, a Mini-Jet powerhead, and a 6.5KK 175W pendant. In the bottom is mixture of Seachem Meridian Oolitic Aragonite & Caribsea Mineral Mud, then a bunch of Caribsea Sugar-sized sand. You can't really see it in the pics, but the substrate slopes from about 5" on the left to 7-8" on the right. All of the macros/seagrasses are from Gulf Coast Ecosystems. They very generously sent a couple of bonus items, namely the Sargassum, a red algae, and a teeny-tiny Caulerpa which is spreading, but never grows more than about 2" tall: The other additions are a couple of pieces of FL live rock from SeaSave...covered in macros, and what I think is a Manicina: Hope so....just saw one recently, smaller than mine, on eBay with a starting bid of $100! Chip, I loooove Dave's tank....we've been in touch, and he's promised me some Gorgonian frags. At some point in the future I'll be setting up a larger Caribbean-only tank. Dshnarw, you're welcome to anything I can frag! The weirdo farlowii Caulerpa is already about twice the size it was since I took the pics a couple of days ago.... -R

Ever found something you just HAD to have? Hands up, who never did. I thought so I love softies, love Sarcophytum, and couldn't pass up this: Hoping for a refund on the $29.95 shipping charge. -R

I'd like to get something from Pacific East Aquaculture for delivery to the WAMAS meeting. Online, their site insists on adding shipping ($29.95, even though I'm within Zone 1 from them). What's the best way? Complete the on-line order and expect a refund? Do they take calls at the weekend? I'd rather not ask via e-mail, coz I know what I want, don't want someone else to buy it in the meantime...MUST HAVE IT. Thx, -R
