PLEASE check wamas website & BB forum page for latest news. Craig Kuhn WAMAS Membership Director Abstract: Seahorses are known by aquarium enthusiasts for being problematic and are considered one of the most difficult species of marine ornamental fish to keep in home aquariums. The commercial culture of seahorses for the global ornamental aquarium trade industry is relatively new; however, it is increasing at an accelerated rate. In May 2004 all species of seahorses became protected under Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). This new regulation has reduced the importation of wild collected seahorses. Seahorses are now reared in the U.S.A. and are also cultured overseas and imported to the country by wholesalers and transshipers. Advances in aquarium technology, application of new aquaculture methodologies, sharing of technical information through list servers, and consulting has incremented the number of successful seahorse breeders globally. Draco Marine Aquaculture, LLC (DMA) is a Maryland based seahorse aquaculture entity dedicated to the sustainable aquaculture of seahorses offering a new line of domesticated and disease free animals. They are robust, have beautiful colors and skin patterns, available year round and are delivered in less than 24 hours. All these features make DMAs animals the best available captive breed seahorses in the global aquarium market. Bio: Jorge is a native of Ecuador, born on the coast of the Santa Elena Peninsula, were he grew up just a few feet away from the beach. Instantly, he was drawn to marine life and has loved it ever since. At a very young age, he learned to catch and observe marine creatures from the pools and tidal areas close to his home. Jorge was always fascinated with animals like crabs, spiders, lizards and butterflies and would bring them to his parents home, keeping his own collection in his room. As a teenager, he explored a little deeper and began snorkeling off the shore reefs were he would catch lobsters, octopus and fish, and enjoy them for lunch. Later, at age 15, he became SCUBA certified and explored his interests even further. After earning a degree in Fisheries Sciences and Technology, Jorge was hired as a research associate at the Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS) in the Galapagos Islands were he spent a total of three years. At the CDRS, Jorge would assist the Director and crew of the marine laboratory in research with ecology of benthic communities, and reproductive biology. He was also in charge of dive operations and laboratory vessels. While in Galapagos, Jorge had the time of his life, so far, diving sometimes three to four times a day. He would fish for Tuna and Wahoo, and have opportunities to go deep diving aboard the Johnson Sea Link Submersible from Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution. Galapagos is where Jorge met his wife, Diane, and after enjoying time on the island together, they moved to San Francisco, CA. There, Jorge joined the California Academy of Sciences Steinhart Aquarium as a Senior Aquatic Biologist. During his stay with Steinhart, Jorge proposed, developed and managed a Pacific Giant Seahorse, Hippocampus ingens, breeding program, while maintaining and breeding other seahorse species. In 1999, he joined the National Aquarium in Baltimore (NAIB) staff, where he is currently the Manager of Fish Breeding Programs. He was instrumental in developing the world famous seahorse exhibit; Seahorses: Beyond Imagination. At the same time, he developed and managed the NAIBs seahorse breeding laboratory at the Center of Marine Biotechnology. Jorge has consulted in seahorse aquaculture and aquarium public exhibitions in Italy, Ireland, Spain, Peru, and Ecuador, as well as several institutions in the USA. Jorge now owns Draco Marine Aquaculture LLC, a seahorse breeding company dedicated to producing seahorses using sustainable approaches.

While the idea of an automatic feeder may seem convenient and appealing, more often than not they do more harm than good. The flake/pelleted food can be used with the automatic feeders are high in phosphates and can cause problems with water quality. All these comments of "looking forward to progress" Pressure Pressure Ssounds like the wife - when you going to finish it and sell the old ones to pay for the new one you already bought So much for dream to keep all 3 tanks :whip: :idea2: All those who say "looking forward to progress" will be summoned to install party :2thumbsup:

I will be combining my 125 & 120 into this tank and taking down the other tanks. 120 still available hint hint. Overflows will go to sump in back room. Then will pump to aerofoamer skimmer which will drain into 70g stock tank (it fit in space I had for it, wanted the 100g). Stock tank will drain via 2 holes back to sump. Return will be By Gen-x mak 4 to 2 x 1/2" sea-swirls [i know 1/2" but I already owned them - won 1 at PA club meeting and bought other from cooter blackburn used few years ago]. Plus don't need that much flow through sump. Another Gen-x will feed skimmer. Also will use a Deltec AP 702 for skimmer I thought it would be easier to hide the drain holes on CL by butting them out outside of tank and returns in center. Will also have pair of tunze 6100's on tank for flow too. Thus, closed loop, sea-swirls and tunze 6100's should give plenty of flow Comments welcome Byron = smarty in every crowd. Watch out or I'll drag you over to help me finish the install :o :idea2: OHH, I'm sure I'll have ton's of frags to sell/trade during move since the 125 is very full of corals that I'm sure will get broken to some extent in move

Can you tell that there is fresh water in the tank in the few pics of the entire tank? There is. :D Maybe starfire? Went down to tank this AM and was still blown away by silence of sequence dart on CL - very quiet. Had to focus to hear it running. And it was kicking some serious water last night when testing in it's flow out of the 1" oceanmotions nozzles. 1st, I'm not very good with camera; 2nd, it was 10:45 pm when I quickly took a few shots to have something to post up. Few more shots here: (Plus dups of below) Entire tank: Right side tank - bottom closed loop inside of tank Closed loop pump & Oceansmotions 4-way on Dart pump Plumbing shot (don't mind the overflow tube, had sump in there just to test tank. Sump to go in back room once I finish install. Filled to test bulkheads on CL stand doors open to see tank and some of CL plumbing

Gator's link to pics of tank 215 Oceanic with starphire front -drilled on bottom with 4 x 1" bulkheads for closed loop. - 2x down to dart pump and 2 x return - built in 2 x 1" return holes also used as closed loop returns - Oceans motions 4 way Will have Sump plumbed in back room 70g stock tank refugium. Plan to light with 3 x 400w and vho actinics. Filled with fresh water to test bulkheads and oceansmotions 4-way Sequence Dart - Dang this is VERY quiet pump! Way more silent than the gen-x mak 4 I use now on 125 and 120. More to come as I make progress. Still have to paint wall tank will go on and plumb overflows to back room, drill sump and stock tanks. Finish plan for lighting either in canopy or some other system.

Happy November Fish Friends, Hope you all had a safe and fun Halloween weekend! WHAT'S NEW? Lots of new corals arrived in this week including some really nice Yellow Porites, bright Green Hydnophora, a couple Purple Acroporas, lots of Yellow/Orange Sun Corals, lots of Yuma Ricordea, some Peach centered Zoanthids, Green and Orange Zoanthids, lots of Frogspawn, Hammer and Torch's, a couple Yellow Leathers, lots of nice Spaghetti Leathers and lots more! Our fish shipment included some larger Green Chromis, a pretty Harlequin Tusk, a very small Naso and Kole Tang, some Green Banded Gobies and a couple Two-Spot Blennies. The Green Banded Gobies and Two-Spot Blennies are great for smaller Nano or Pico tanks because they stay really small and don't require a large amount of space, so if you are looking for a neat fish for your small tank, come in and take a look at these small, cute fish! We also got in our captive bred shipment which includes False and True Percula Clowns, Tomato, Cinnamon, Clarkii and Maroon Clowns, Orchid and Neon/Arabian Dottybacks, and Blue Neon Gobies. Some neat inverts this week include some more algae-eating Chitons, some small (nano-sized) Money Cowries which also do a great job on algae for their small size. For those of you starting a new tank, this is the time to stop by and pick up some really nice rock! WHAT'S ON SALE? Ocean Nutrition Formula One and Formula Two flake or frozen foods are 10% off. One of the best ways to maximize the health, color, and lifespan of your fish is to feed it an assortment of foods. We recommend feeding your fish at least five different types of food. The same way no human should eat the same meal every day, fish and invertebrates should not eat just flake food or just brine shrimp. We carry pellets, freeze dried krill, lots of different flake foods, and a large assortment of frozen foods. We have food great for herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, small-mouth eaters, and large-mouth eaters. For the really finicky or picky eaters, we carry a few different vitamin and lipid supplements to make sure that all your fish are as healthy as possible. The best way to expand your fish's lunch menu is to either pick up at least five different types of food, or try one of our frozen variety packs. Are your fish and invertebrates getting the diet they deserve? Thanks for reading our weekly newsletter, hope to see you this weekend! I emailed them earlier in week prior to you posting this. They DO want to form relationship with WAMAS (something we talked to them about at macna). I will be scheduling a meeting with them soon to begin process & try to set up a meeting or social there.

Happy Halloween Fish Friends, WHAT'S NEW? Lots of new corals in this week including some really nice Bubble's, amazing Green and Yellow Torch's, some Neon Green Mushrooms, a large Plate Coral and a few Ridge Pagoda's. We will also be receiving a shipment Friday morning of about 30 more corals and hopefully some Rose Anemones! Flame Angels are back in stock! We also received a couple Lemonpeel Angels, a beautiful coral and clam safe, Bellus Angel, some Hi-fin Banded Gobies, a Bundoon Fangblenny, a Yashia Goby and Pistol Shrimp pair, lots of Yellow Tangs, Yellow Watchman Gobies and lots more! If you are still looking for a mated pair of clownfish, we still have a pair of Cinamons and Clarkii's and they are both hosting in anemones! Skunk Cleaner Shrimp are back in stock and going fast! We have lots of macroalgae on rocks which are great for refugiums, some Fighting Conch's, a beautiful Red Cluster Duster, some algae eating Chitons, Blue Globe (Tuxedo) Urchins, lots of Bubble Tip Anemones, Turbo Snails and of course more! We also had a customer break down their tank and bring in some really nice fully cured Fiji Live Rock encrusted with Coralline and lots of Red/Purple Mushrooms, Brown Button Polyps, Star Polyps, Green Briarium and some leathers so stop by to pick out some of this nice rock before it is all gone! Liven up some bare space in your house with a new nano/pico tank. We have the new CPR 3 gallon Pico tank which comes with an 18 watt light strip and an attached sump area on the side of the tank. It is a similar version of the 6 gallon CPR we have on our front counter. This would be a great tank for your nightstand, bookshelf or even your computer desk. Need to replace your HQI bulb? We have the new Current USA 14K HQI in stock. We replaced our bulb over our Bubble Tip Anemone tank with the 14K bulb and it looks great, so now you can see it in person before you decide to replace your bulb with this one. WHAT'S ON SALE? For this spooky Halloween weekend all Orange and/or Black fish are 15% off and some holiday colored inverts are included as well! This is the time of season when Ich can become a problem so make sure you are feeding your fish garlic. Yes, I said garlic. Kent Garlic Xtreme is a great additive to fish foods which helps picky eaters try a variety of frozen and flake foods and also helps prevent external and internal parasites including Ich. Kent Garlic Xtreme is 10% off this weekend. Some other great food additives to help maintain health are Kent Zoe and Zoecon which are also 10% off this weekend. Looking to upgrade your lighting to a halide unit? Our Shimmer Light is on sale with a savings of $120! It has two 250 watt metal halides and two 96 watt actinic PC's and is 48" long. This is a great light for keeping all corals including SPS and even clams. Buy the hanging kit for only a penny, with the purchase of the Shimmer Light, which is a savings of another $50! Continued from last weekend's sale all Current USA Sunpaq Retrofit kits, Lunar Lights and Lunar Links are all 15% off. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that not all fish are "reef safe" fish? Be careful about which fish you choose to add to your tank. Some fish love to eat corals, shrimp, snails, and/or hermit crabs. Make sure you ask the right questions about future fish purchases, and it never hurts to do a little research. Knowing the feeding and behavior habits of your fish will save you from many headaches and lost dollars. Thanks for reading our weekly newsletter, have a safe and spooky Halloween! WAMAS allows people who are MOVING out of the DC area to post items for sale so they can find good homes. Paid members should use for sale / trade forum. If you are a vendor, please contact officer to set up special BB user id so you can post sale items in the "vendor news" forum Thanks
