FYI: Over 110 people came to the WAMAS winter meeting & heard an excellent talk by Steve Pro. Special Thanks to Geocorals for coming with a tank to sell corals. A lot of trades went on all day, as evidenced by 6 pages (30 posts a page) in the frag trade thread. Thanks for coming out! Nice to meet you all and put faces to names.

Happy Friday all! We are hiring! We are currently seeking a full time candidate for The Marine Scene. This is an entry level position with the intent of this person to train and develop into a managerial position. Our managers earn an excellent salary with paid vacation, 401K, company paid health plan, generous discounts and performance based bonuses. If you are interested in a fun, busy and educational work experience, don't hesitate to give us a call. If you would like to be considered please fax, e-mail or bring in your resume or work history. WHAT'S NEW? We have received some nice and interesting critters in this week. Something we haven't seen in a while are the Blue Assessors and Goldline Gobies. Blue Assessors are a peaceful community fish perfect for any reef system as well as the Goldline Gobies which is similar to the blue Neon Goby. We also have some Black and Gold Chromis which are another great schooling fish and bring a different color to any reef system. We received our captive bred shipment which included clownfish, some nice Maxima clams, Gold Maximas, a Crocea Clam and some ORA Acropora Frags. These frags are captive raised and mounted on plugs which makes it easy to wedge into a rock in your tank. Stop in early to get first dibs on these nice clams and frags, they are going fast! WHAT'S ON SALE? This weekend we have selected some corals to put on sale including 15% off all Galaxy corals, Pearl Corals, Speckled Leathers, Toadstool Leathers, and more. Take 15% off all Visi Therm heaters (excluding 25 watt). Also take 10% off all frozen fish foods, so make sure to stop by and pick up a variety of foods for your fishes. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that several different types of corals can be "fragged"? A "Frag" is the term we use to refer to a cutting taken from a larger colony to create a new "daughter" colony. The most popular stony coral to frag is the Small Polyp Stony Acropora. Taking cuttings from SPS corals usually requires a Dremel or other hand tool. Leather corals are a bit easier to frag; a razor blade will do the trick. The simplest corals to frag are Zoanthid Polyps or Star Polyps, in this case you only need to break apart polyp rock. Star polyps in most cases can actually be peeled off the rock and cut into small pieces and glued onto new rock. For more information on fragging your corals please stop in and ask any of our employees. Hope to see you in this weekend! Update: We wish Mac well & hope for the best for his family. I'll keep you posted if Zak can make it for Dr. Mac. NOTE: Geocorals "Geofloors" will be at the meeting with some frags along with many other WAMAS members with lots of frags to trade - including me with some blue / purple monti. cap. that I got from vareefman. See you at the meeting.

Howdy all! WHAT'S NEW? Finally back in stock are the two-part ESV Calcium and Alkalinity Buffers in 2-gallon and 64oz sizes. We have a full stock so if you do not see them on our shelves please check with a sales associate. We have a cute little Two-Spot Blenny in stock. These guys have a neat personality and are great for smaller reef tanks. We also have Green Chromis, Royal Gramma's and Six Line wrasse back in stock. We received a shipment of over 80 corals on Tuesday including two "Green Slimers" (aka. Acropora Staghorns), small metallic orange and neon green Plate corals, lots of Torch, Ridge Hammer and leather corals as well as some really nice Bubble and Pearl corals. New shipments of Tonga, Fiji and Lalo live rock have also arrived. WHAT'S ON SALE? We hope all of you who needed live rock took advantage of our double shipment sale and if not, no worries because we are putting it on sale again. All Tonga Live Rock, originally priced at $7.99 per pound, is on sale at $7.29 per pound for 1 to 49 pounds. Purchase 50+ pounds and take an additional 50 cents off each pound making it only $6.79 per pound. Take 10% off all powder and crystal Seachem products. Powder and crystal trace elements and buffers are great for larger tanks because they are more concentrated so you don't use as much in turn lasting longer. Take 20% off Seachem Renew, a carbon substitute which does not leak phosphates. All brands of Kalkwasser are 20% off as well. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that there is a difference between "cured" and "uncured" live rock? When live rock is harvested from the ocean, it is likely that there are several critters residing in and on that rock. Everything from sponge to starfish to crabs have been found on fresh batches of rock. However, the live rock is shipped to stores in wet newspaper, which means the most delicate of the organisms living on the rock will not survive the trip. So, the curing process is the period of time it takes for those more delicate organisms to die off and be broken down naturally by the bacteria that inhabits the pores of the rock. When adding rock to an existing, established aquarium, try to find cured rock or cure the rock yourself at home. All live rock needs to cure is saltwater and circulation and temperature control. Use a container like a fish safe bucket and a small power head, fill it with saltwater, set up your power head and heater and wait. Changing the water in the bucket and scrubbing the rock may speed along the process. In a new set up, adding uncured rock gives you the benefit of starting a natural nitrogen cycle and the chance of hitch hikers which can be interesting. So now you know, and knowing is half of the battle. Hope to see you in this weekend! Welcome to the new forums! We will be updating the look of the forums over the next week so give it some time. Once it's done, it should look similar to the old ikon board skin look.

Confirmed - Geocorals - George (geofloors) will be at the meeting with some frags to sell.

ALL, we are going to be moving to a new ISP host company in the next day or 2 (I hope if all goes well) NOTE: - We will be converting to a new forum software - I have been told we will NOT lose any old posts. - company that wrote Ikon is bankrupt and does not support it. So moving to new HOST ISP makes it good time to upgrade to new forum software. THUS - might want to limit post to forums for next day or 2 until Thanks all.

Happy Valentines Day fish lovers! We are hiring! If you are interested in a fun, busy and educational work experience, don't hesitate to give us a call or check out our web site for more information (http://www.marinescene.com/employment.shtm). If you would like to be considered please fax, e-mail or bring in your resume or work history. WHAT'S NEW? New shipments arrived including some nice pink and purple Long Tentacle Plate corals, a few beautiful green Marbled Mushroom rocks, an amazing Blue Mushroom rock, Decorator Crabs and those cute little Black Percula clowns. We also have a beautiful mated pair of True Percula clownfish looking for a good home. On our shelves are a new line of marine themed stuffed animals and children's toys including sharks, eels, rays, clowns, angels, tangs, seahorses and turtles. WHAT'S ON SALE? Love is in the air, or should I say water, and what better way to say "I Love You" than with a special Valentines Marine Scene gift card. It is only appropriate on Valentines that all red and/or pink fish, corals and inverts are 20% off. Buy a clownfish and an anemone and get 20% off both. All stuffed animals are on sale, up to 25% off. Stuffed animals always make great gifts so pick up a cute marine themed stuffed animal for your valentine. Don't forget, Visi-Therm heaters are now on sale at 15% off (excludes 25 watt heater). DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that anemones are shape shifters? Ok, well maybe "shape shifter" is a little extreme, but these guys can change size and even color. Anemones are mostly made up of water so that makes it real easy to inflate, deflate, add tentacles, and so on. It is normal for an anemone to deflate at night and perk back up during the day. Why is it so moody you ask? Well what the anemone is doing is very similar to the behavior of a flower. While the sun is out the petals on the flower will open to catch as much sunshine as possible. Then as the sun goes down the flower will close up. The anemone is basically doing the same thing. Increasing surface area is a really good way for anemones to produce more "food" and be more efficient. Anemones are moody, but keep your eye out for any strange behavior that doesn't fit into the animal's daily pattern. Signs of poor health of an anemone include exposing digestive organs, disruptions of the tissue on the foot, and tumbleweed-like behavior. Hope you all have a romantic Valentines weekend! Drs. Foster & Smith http://www.DrsFosterSmith.com February 9, 2005 View this news release online: http://www.DrsFosterSmith.com/pressroom/pressroom.cfm?prid=19 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Drs. Foster & Smith's LiveAquaria.com to Open Coral Farm in Wisconsin ----------------------------------------------------------------- RHINELANDER, WI - Aquarists nationwide will soon have an environmentally friendly source for buying "farmed" coral fragments for their aquariums. Drs. Foster & Smith's new, state-of-the-art coral propagation facility, expected to be operating in late Spring 2005, will provide reef hobbyists a reliable, year-round supply of vibrant, fast-growing coral fragments through its LiveAquaria.com website. Aquacultured (farmed) corals offer the industry and hobbyists numerous advantages, according to LiveAquaria.com director, Kevin Kohen, the most important of which is reducing the pressure on the world's coral reefs as home reef aquariums grow in popularity. "We are committed to the self-sustaining principles that aquaculturing provides the aquarium hobby, and our new coral farm is being built upon that foundation," Kohen said. The new high-tech facility will allow careful monitoring of all environmental controls to ensure the brood stock, as well as the fragments (frags) sold to customers, are of optimal health. In addition, the new facility's Midwest location will reduce shipping time for a significant percentage of aquarists, resulting in faster acclimation of the frags and quicker growth. The new facility will employ the most sophisticated technology in lighting, filtration, water movement, and quarantine systems to ensure the hardiest and disease-free coral selection for home aquariums. Drs. Foster & Smith's staff of aquatic experts, diagnostic specialists, and veterinarians will personally oversee the health of each coral frag, and strict standards are in place to protect hobbyists from the common marine parasites currently plaguing home-operated coral frag traders. Parent stock for the farm will consist of the fastest growing and most vibrant generations of coral, combining previously established specimens with varieties personally selected by Kohen from select importers nationwide. He will be traveling on research and acquisition trips to Fiji prior to the facility's grand opening this Spring. Drs. Foster & Smith's LiveAquaria.com website is the nation's leading source for "direct-to-your-door" delivery of a wide variety of aquatic life, including live marine and freshwater fish, invertebrates, corals, live rock, and aquarium plants. The site also contains extensive species-specific information as well as articles on the care and maintenance of home aquariums and aquatic life. To visit the LiveAquaria.com website, log on to www.LiveAquaria.com. ### For More Information: Joe Voellinger 715-369-9302 Voellinger@DrsFosterSmith.com Visit our Press Room: http://www.DrsFosterSmith.com/pressroom/pressroom.cfm?prid=1

We let people who are moving out of the area and need to sell stuff fast &/or find good homes for their livestock POST in the "general discussion" area. In the past, a vote was taken by the membership and it was determined that the for sale section should be a member benefit - thought was that fellow members should get first shot at buying livestock and / or used equipment from another member who is selling stuff before general public has chance. Years ago, we had complaints from members who wanted to buy stuff from other members only to find that by the time they saw the post, a general public bb "non-member" lurker had bought it. The topic can always be bought up again at a future meeting if members want it moved back to public. To become a paid member of wamas - click on "Join us" button at top and follow directions.
