  1. Are we doing a CA reactor group project? If so I'd like to make one as well. When are we getting started? It's been a while sense I've heard or read any news on the CA reactor. Luke C.
  2. I'm interested in the neon green zoos and orange monti. I work in Reston. I'll sent you a PM to get directions. Luke C.

    best salt?

Maybe we should do a group order of Oceanic.
  4. Chip, I checked on the McManster Carr website & only found metal check valves. Did you find a plastic valve, or is a metal valve a non issue because the RO water is non corrosive?
  5. You need a small pump so that it doesn't dump alot of kalk very quickly, but a large enough pump to pump water up to the head hight of the reactor.
  6. I can drive or ride to save on gas. I live in Alexandria. Please PM me if your going & live close. Thanks, Luke C.
  7. I fill up a bucket w/ ro water & pump it into the reactor w/ a float switch, but when the water level in the bucket is lower than the top of the reactor it backflows into the bucket, the same problem of backflow w/ my set up as Chip had. Krish told me about using a solinoid valve and float switch. I've got the switch, but don't have a valve. Any comments on pros & cons of solinoid vs. check valve?
  8. Michael, Speaking of Banger breading, how are your bangers comming along? Have any of them paired off yet?
  9. Thanks for the info everyone. I'm going to get the 70gal & put it against a bearing wall.
  10. I see Chip's response about several tanks throughout a room. What about one of the big tanks. Has anyone heard of a big tank (100+) on an upper floor.
  11. I am upgrading my set up & am looking at either a 50gal (36x18x17) or 70gal (36x18x25). I'm wandering if the 70gal would be reaching unsafe loading on a 2nd floor. The weight of the 70gal with 20gal sump is approx. 700lbs, and the surface area is (3x1.5=4.5sf). What is the largest tank held up on an upper floor?
  12. I've noticed that many reefers have no problem keeping these yellow polyps and gsp's, and have a problem actually controlling there proliferation. For some reason, I've always had them decline. I've tried strong flow, low flow, bright light, low light. I've even direct fed them like a sun coral, just to have them shrivel up over time. It just seems that my tank set up is cursed when it comes to these as other corals have multiplied in the same set up.
  13. Grav, I happened upon an IV at TRT. Grim had a few and may be willing to get one for you, or tell you where he gets his. HTH. Luke C.
  14. Yeah, what Chip said. I had the same problem, and pointing a ph slightly up to ripple the top of water fixed it.
  15. Chip, What I think your forgetting is the 1/4" riggid tubing required to go from the inlet jg fitting to the bottom of the reactor. Howard told me that he picked up approx. 11' which is enough for 4 reactors. Also, I'm wandering how we connect the 1/4" riggid tube to the threaded side of the jg fitting. Does it just slide into the ID opening of the fitting or do we need to glue it in?
  16. 30 gal: 300w VHO 5 gal: 36w PC 2 gal: 18w PC Total: 354w
  17. Howard, I'm assuming that the 1/4" tubing from Fishers is the riggid tubing required to connect to the inlet fitting from the dosing pump that goes down to the bottom of the reactor. Please confirm. Were you able to buy enough for all 17 reactors?
  18. Howard, I just called Brown's hrdw. They said that 1/4 20 is standard machine screw thread and 1/4 28 is fine thread machine screw. They are out of 1/4" npt taps but think that NPT "national pipe thread" is 18 threads per inch or 1/4 18.
  19. Chip, I filled it up to the rim and what we glued on Sunday doesn't leak. I've not gotten around to drilling/tapping the lid yet, but I think at this point I can pick the tap up and do it at the next session. That way the group only purchases one tap.
  20. Chip, I filled my kalk reactor up last night to test it for leaks & see how well the ph stirs up the kalk. I've got to say it works like a champ! If you need some help w/ the wamas reactor tonight call me before 4pm. 703-376-4496. Luke C.
  21. I've heard of guys using plastic window screen. You've got to get it at a local hardware store as home depot only sells it in long rolls. I picked up some to put on the back of my canopy. The sides and front are wood, and the top is basically 1x4 to allow the top to breath. HTH.
  22. I have a camera and can make it on 10/3 from 3-5. See y'all at Chip's house. Luke C.

    NEW NANOCUBE

I have a friend in my office who had a ballast go out on the old Nano and JBJ is sending a replacement ballast to him.
  24. I would like to participate in this adventure. Unfortunately I don't have access to materials, but I've got mucho denaro.
  25. Try using a thread and needle to tie the colt to a small rock. Run 1 or 2 loops through the base. I tried this with some leathers after the rubber band trick wouldn't work. It took a few weeks for them to attach to the rock, but it worked like a champ.
