  1. Phase one nearly complete. 1. Cleaned live rock in acid solution 2. Neutralized and soaked rock in fresh water 3. Removed organic material and power washed rock 4. 95% complete with dry aquascaping inside display, I LOVE IT. One more feature to finish, which I think Duff will enjoy. 5. Started 2 - 3 week long phosphate purge process Phase two. 1. Begin nitrogen cycle
  2. Any evidence of "brown stringy" matter elsewhere in the tank? Presence of air bubbles mixed with algae, could be dinos.
  3. Beyond what is included with the pump, at what cost does Maxspect offer additional cages?
  4. I believe it was the temperature change; and I did not give the heaters time to raise to 78-80 degrees. The water in the holding tank was around 72 degrees. I had six tanks going and I lost track of one. lol Rebooting the system was not an issue or burden. I decided to wage war and I executed the nuclear option. Sold close to 90% of my corals, still have my high end items to include the Badazz. I feel liberated! Most likely will begin dry aquascaping in 7 -10 days. Detox Please pass the sun tan lotion
  5. If I cannot find Reefflake; Carib special grade is an excellent alternative. I have previously used both with no problems. From what I remember, there were a number of complaints about hair algae growing on the substrate. If a hobbyist is having trouble with hair algae growing on the substrate, it does not matter was substrate is used, sand or bare bottom. It is not the substrates fault that nutrient levels are out of control.
  6. I know Reefflakes are hard to find so I usually go with the next best alternative, Carib Special Grade.
  7. I am looking for 120 pounds of Tropic Eden Reefflakes. Premium seems to be out of stock.
  8. Something I am considering, most likely will include new sand bed. I ran several systems bare bottom, but I always came back to sand because of the way MH light reflects off the sand, and the micro fauna.
  9. I did the unthinkable over the weekend. Montipora confusa took over my system and began to over run my acros. All attempts to slow its growth and destruction have failed. I did a complete tear down. Removed all corals, rocks, sand, and fish. All rocks will receive an acid bath today, especially the rocks that were covered with montipora. I know my actions sound extreme, because it is, I just could not take it anymore. The good news is I will finally have an opportunity to dry aquascape the system, something I really wanted to do in the beginning. Fish and corals will stay in holding tanks until the system is fully cycled. I lost two large mille colonies almost instantly when I moved them from the system; and I am expecting to loose a few more, not to mention the high end frags. I blame myself 100% because when I setup the 300g two years ago; I knew I had a montipora problem; to the best of my ability I scraped and chiseled every rock. This time I am not leaving anything to chance, all rock will be dried out for at least a week. Going forward, no encrusting corals are going in the main display. I may even go bare bottom and crank up the flow.
  10. What type of business are you establishing?
  11. To add to Warren's statement... For those following and maybe interested in Zeo; there is one product that KZ provides that is extremely effective and can nuke a tank overnight. Zeospur2 I strongly recommend not to use it until you have 6-12 months experience with Zeo. I can not stress this enough. One ml added to a 75g system can be disastrous.
  12. I used Zeo several years ago. The system works. Stones MUST be shaken daily. Mulm, the bacteria build up, coats the stones and must be released to feed the corals and other organisms. There are products available that will automate the stone shaking process as well, Avast has a model. Zeobac can be used with any system. To achieve a "diverse" level of bacteria, zeobac must be dosed several times a week.
  13. Zeo info.
  14. Zeo can be ran without a reactor, but you will not get the full benefits. Place stones in mesh bag and shake twice a day. Zeo is challenging and provides a lot of benefits. To get started: Reactor designed for zeo stones. Stones must be pumped/shaken 1-2 times per day. Zeolites, also known as stones. Purchase only approved stones. Zeo Start3 - carbon food source to include nitrates ZeoBac - Bacteria to drive the system Sponge Power - food for micro organisms The other blue bottles are not required, but can be used to adjust coral colors.
  15. My QT operation is scaleable. I always have two 10 gallon tanks running and can quickly put two 40g, 30g, and 20g tanks online. The 10g tanks are constantly running just in case I fall for the impulse fish purchase. Most likely will order some reef saver rock. Realistically, 20 pounds would do the trick.
  16. Only Emperor and Blueface.
  17. Beginning to plan for remodel of right side of reef. Mission Statement: Remove all unwanted encrusting corals, and introduce Goldflake and Regal. The remodel will require removal of approximately 40 lbs of live rock and reconstruction with new rock. Before I start that phase, the Emperor and Blueface will be moved to holding tanks. Moving the Angels will allow me to introduce the new Angels to the main display at the same time. While I am at it, I may do the same with the wrasse. To do list Purchase Goldflake and Regal as they will need to go through QT for 8-10 weeks. Purchase 40-50 lbs of rock Find home for encrusting corals Get my head right
  18. Corals and fish are growing. I probably will place my second CaRx chamber online to scrub the excess CO2. Reactor pH is running at 6.45. System runs at pH 7.8 - 8.1.
  19. Does the connection still apply if one was to replace the Gyre with Tunzes?
  20. Over the last couple of weeks, the Internets have claimed the Gyre has accomplished the following: Cured parasites including Ich Reduced the need for a skimmer Eliminated cyano and dinos Increased fish and coral growth Cleaned sandbed Reduced phosphate and nitrate levels I got a few chuckles reading Gyre threads across various forums. Off topic, but did anyone see the thread on RC about raising tank temp in order to kill phosphates? Kill phosphates, where does this stuff come from?
  21. Use a hack saw.

  23. Dropping science: The health of your system is only as good as the latest tank addition.

  24. I would like the Kent Max RODI unit. Where shall I send payment?
