  1. Well, I went to Aquarium One yesterday after calling different places to get my Nova Extreme lighting (didn't want to go the internet route). A1 was the least expensive and Cong was the most expensive, TFW was inbetween, and the place on Russel Ave won't special order them (no one keeps them in stock). I also found out that A1 will give a discount to WAMAS members, but sad to say for me, not on lighting. Congressional led me to believe that a green brittle star would be safe in my tank - a couple days after I got it, I discovered that gbs are notorious for being UNsafe. Note that Cong includes them in their cleanup crew package. On the contrary, there is a big profit in it, pursued by cruel, compassionless, and greedy people http://badmanstropicalfish.com/states/md.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Painted_fish
  2. I'm not sure yet if I want to do that long drive - prob not but I'm still thinking about it. I'm not so sure which would be more of the decision breaker - the drive or the thongs.
  3. how hard is it to keep the environment stable in that size?
  4. Good basement plan there Spray painting a panel for inside my fuge.
  5. actually I have read about watts and lumens and temps and all that a little in the past, but it seems all anyone really talks about in discussion is watts as if it's the most important thing, even the people who would be most likely to understand it. I know that in a deep tank, its a matter of the light being able to get down that far, so a tall tank would need more intense light to put corals on the bottom, while a more shallow tank could do with less light for the same placement. I know there are people who keep intense light corals under the same T-5 lighting as I have purchased, but I don't know that I should try such a thing.
  6. I used to use tap water, but decided to stop doing it because I myself won't drink it. Can teh RO/DI units hook directly to a regular fawcett? I live in an apartment so my options are very limited.
  7. When you're painting, yeah, but if its spray paint I would not attempt on a filled tank even covered.
  8. It's a new Nova Extreme fixture. It has a parabolic reflector, 2x actinics 39W each, 2x 10K 39W each, and lunar lights. The tank is 36L x 24H x 12W.
  9. for that I used this paint that is used to dip tool handles in to rubberize them, and used for marine applications. It's very heavy paint and is kind of like a rubbery coating when it dries. It does peel off if you really work at it so it has that advantage over other black paint types
  10. Mine is painted black. The black works well for color contrast while waiting for coraline to completely cover that wall, if you are into that look.
  11. I'm getting new lighting, T-5s, which is going to give me about 3.4 W/gal. It's not enough for intense lighting requirements, but I'm wondering if I could keep "medium to high" light corals up high in the tank. Feedback and info please.
  12. That's the big factor for sure if it's a money issue. Me too.
  13. I'm glad you asked about again because in about 2 days I'm going to have to have the same kind of info, so thank you!
  14. I'm planning to pay at the door, because it's impossible to know if something will come up between now and then, and if it does I will be out 10 bucks. I do, however, plan happily to be present I can't wait to meet people for the first time
  15. Hi There really are some insomniacs here. As for me, I was spray painting acrylic for my fuge at 2:30 this morning.
  16. what will the overall factor be in determining which option you will chose?
  17. ok so let me be stupid for a minute is the way this thing works like what happens when a big truck flies 80mph down a dirt road? Going along its path, the force of movement pulling up the dirt or water as it passes?
  18. Are they fanning with their tails?
  19. That's why I said "very small". I'm talking maybe 2 that stay small.
  20. I was trying to figure this out before I started building mine, and decided skimmer-fuge-return because of not wanting to skim out food.
  21. Howard, the very first thing I thought when I started reading was that he sould ask you for advice. It's an awful lot of work just to move across the room - a huge undertaking and risk level. Nitro's horror story is what I invisioned in wanting to move my little 45g over about a foot, with my son having suggested those sliders.
