  1. If it's turned white, it has most likely bleached (depending on species) - meaning it has expelled the symbiotic photosynthetic xooanthelae. You will need to improve the water quality and begin feeding it silversides to get it to color back up. Moving around the tank is something that's pretty normal for an anemone to do - most likely this one was looking for a spot with better flow, water quality, and/or light.
  2. In response to question #1: I'm really not sure if corals produce any noticeable impact to the shark's skin. However, due to a shark's size and the composition of their skin, they are relatively unaffected by coral and anemone stings.
  3. The reviews I've read highly recommend the Nikon 5000 and said that it is better for the money than the 3000 (this was before the 3100 came out). I got the D90 because it will do autofocus on lenses that don't have integrated motors. Ken Rockwell writes a very no-nonsense blog on cameras and I like the way he approaches things. He highly recommends the 7000 but notes that it's twice as much and if money is a concern then get the 3100 and you'll love it. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm
  4. Moving to Vendor Experience.
  5. Let's stay on topic. The original issue was about online vs. in-store stock, ordering, etc.
  6. Yep, Chapter 7. Judge decides who gets paid and what. There's a payoff order prescribed the law. All-in-all it sounds like they'll come back. Bankruptcy actually makes it easier to raise funds and get your act together. Chapter 11 isn't a bad thing. But when the judge decides to move it to Chapter 7, then there's no hope.
  7. You'll only get nothing if they liquidate. But filing a claim against the company in bankruptcy court will give you standing and the new company that emerges will hold your liability.
  8. Sounds like the debt holders successfully took control of the company or the (likely) VC equity holders successfully replaced the current management to try and get their investment back on track. Either way, it's good to know that IceCap is under new management and we need to think of them as a new brand rather than the company we have come to trust.
  9. I don't believe that's a configuration item. We could probably play with it but it would require digging around in the original source code.
  10. There probably is a way. See my post looking for site developers.
  11. I know for a fact that several stores absolutely QT and ensure a fish is eating prior to putting it up for sale. I was at F&F once looking for a copperband - they had 1 in stock. Sean wasn't in the store but I asked to see it eat. It seemed to be ignoring the food but could have been full. The lady that helped me (I'm afraid I don't know her name) called Sean to ask about the copperband and he said that he hadn't gotten it to eat well yet and that they probably shouldn't sell it. Honest and up-front about the state of the fish. Roozens does wholesale to local vendors. They nurse the fish, get it eating and then turn around and sell it to you. There's markup because the LFS has taken the risk. If you're willing to take the risk then you can sometimes get a better price at Roozen's. But as stated repeatedly, the store is not for the inexperienced and customer service is almost non-existant (at least the last couple times I was there). I've been told that they cleaned up their tanks over the summer but I haven't been there to see it myself.
  12. Sounds like IceCap may have filed for a Chapter 11 restructuring: http://reeftools.com/news/icecap-inc-future-direction/
  13. On the old model you could use the ORP probe connection for a 2nd pH probe. I assume they continued that capability.
  14. I generally have a neighbor feed the tank with a fellow reefer on standby in case of a problem. I also have 2 reefers not far from my house that I have had do the feeding in the past.
  15. I turn my skimmer off because it's fed by the main pump and I turn off the main pump. If you're turning off the skimmer during feeding, it's also a good time to empty the skimmer cup.
  16. Not bad if you're not near an LFS. Local prices are better though - at least on IO.
  17. I'd say 2.5 hrs from DC. Add :30 to 1:00 from Manassas ... and if the Bay Bridge is backed up you can add up to 5 days
  18. But the problem I've had on these outlets is the lights not turning on rather than not turning off ... or turning off and then back on which seems very odd.
  19. Sounds very strange. I would definitely contact Neptune for support and see what they have to say.
  20. Chad (Sikryd) got out of the hobby about a month ago, selling off the tank and equipment that went with this upgrade.
  21. When I've had this problem it has been the RO filter - and I've had this problem a couple times. My 150gpd filter went bad after only 6 or 8 mos. I was told that the company that makes that filter isn't dow so they're not made to the same standards as the filmtec. Once I replaced the RO filter, all flow problems went away. However, during troubleshooting, AWI did point me to the flow restrictor and I replaced it with no change - so that is definitely a possibility. If you have an AWI unit, I'd contact them as they sent me one for free (it's for the 150gpd filter or I'd pass it along to you). You could also contact them directly and see if they'll do something on the shipping for you since it just needs to come first class mail.
  22. Since you're using Radium bulbs, you have a lower PAR output than you would with 10K bulbs. I don't think you're overdoing it at all and I'd say that 150W MH bulbs are appropriate for your tank. I think 250W MH bulbs are the most I'd put over that tank. If you're not having any heat problems and don't have to run a chiller then all the better.
  23. Probably all from people on this forum. There are more people that read everything on the boards than you know ....
  24. Sand from HD or Lowe's has silica. It used to be thought that silica was a no-no but I've read some other discussions that say it doesn't leach into the water so it's not a big deal. I'd do research if I were you.
  25. Given the ultra-high cost of that salt, I'd complain. It definitely absorbed some water which means the seal on it wasn't tight. Whether that will actually affect the salt or not, I really don't know.
