  1. i love sea apples. i was just there and saw it and i would buy it but its so poisonous. o well
  2. yea because i have had success with fish in the short term but i dont know why the turning male decided to be soo aggressive. it is really painful for me and my first reaction is to blame myself. i want some info before i proceed
  3. ok i was trying to get a harem of lyretails going. i had 4 lyretails and was going to get 2 more. one died today from starvation and stress. one of the females was turning into a male and that is the aggressive one. he/she was pestering them and i noticed that only two would come out and a third one during feedings. now i have three which are fine but i dont know how to proceed. should i try and add the other lyretails together so as to limit aggression? what can i do to get them all in there without this happening again?
  4. thanx again! the zoas and sps corals are already opening up. you have a very beautiful tank and i met some cool folks
  5. youre the man chris. i really enjoyed my visit and i will let you know how all of the wonderful corals i got are doing in the future.
  6. i hope you didnt infect me at the store the other nite ybenormal
  7. i use IO reef crystals so that i wouldnt have to worry about dosing as much and because it seems to be available the most
  8. well the title says it all
  9. well my temp rarely fluctuates more that 1 degree per day with a decent sump. i need to replace my pc bulbs next month so that is probably a factor but after adding a phosban reactor last week and running it a couple of days and doing a water change after that my no3 came down 3ppm and the cyano has stopped growing. i dont believe flow is an issue in my tank as my turnover is 5200 gph right now. perhaps there are some nutrients present in our salt mixes that has spurred this outbreak. if a correlation were discovered that would be very fasicinating and perhaps lead to some solution that may not yet be available
  10. i may add a snowflake eel but i want to make sure i dont over do the bioload so after i add these things i will reaccess
  11. i plan to keep 3 lyretail anthias 2 mandarins a yellowtail damsel 2 clowns 2 watanabei angels a ruby head fairy wrasse and a melanurus wrasse with a pair of blue throat triggers wouldnt this be a bit much? thoughts?
  12. wish i had thought of this when i moved that heavy 180 into the basement. i can help
  13. i think its because they have alot of customers that are either new or unknowledgeable. i curse my own ignorance when i think of how much money i wated setting up my tank before i knew of all of the better options in the area and before wamas. i signed up the next month. that being said there hours are good so thats a plus but with ao getting more stuff i wont need to go back there anymore. why why why thanx to good lfs' for making stores like this unnecessary
  14. thanx. i wanna keep the tank relatively peaceful so the meanest fish i will have will be a blue throat trigger. croos your fingers for me
  15. thanx inna before i get them which wont be soon ill be making a trip to get some. also would it be better to intro them to the tank together or does it matter
  16. i know folks are tired of these questions but i want to avoid compatibility issues early and the internet often has conflicting info on this. i want to get a Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura ruby head fairy wrasse and a Halichoeres melanurus melanurus wrasse. thoughts?
  17. can u post some pics of whats left please?
  18. your in cville just take your water to johnny and have him test it. also get a better kit for your fishies own good. i had red sea until recently and it was saying i had .25ppm of ammonia since i set up the tank and when i got the salifert kit and got it tested by johnny they both said 0 which is what it should be. you might not even have a prob. invest in an accurate kit for the 10 dollars you save on test kits could cost you a visit from murphy
  19. that happened to me and i tossed it. besides it gives you an excuse to go to the fish store and get other stuff you dont need as well
  20. thanx and the stylo is doing great
  21. on reefkeeping magazine randy has a convenient dosing calculator for dosing the first time and for daily dosing subsequently. it depends on the size tank and corals. i bought the dowflake at a hardware store on 12th and monroe st, n.e. in dc. i bought the magflake at the home depot on rhode island ave. my calcium went from 220 to 450ppm with one dosing. i have only been using it for a week but so far my alk and cal has been more stable then what i was using before.
  22. there is a small white crab on one of my acros. it is about an in or so and it looks like its eating something but i dont think its the polyps
  23. its actually been pretty docile except for bucking at the clown and anthias but since it is another zooplankton feeder and the most aggressive of the ones i have i would rather he be gone then risk it. also if your school can house a green brittle star you are welcome to him as he is sitting in the sump right now
  24. recently acquired some mandarins and will be getting some bartlett anthias along with the lyretails i have so i would like to get rid of the damsel before aggression becomes an issue. does anyone have a fish trap i could borrow or some other idea about getting rid of this little guy. if i can get him out alive and someone wants him they can have him for free
  25. thanks quazi sorry i used the short names i felt the same way when i first got on here.
