  1. i just got an rbta yesterday and today it has attached but i dont see its tentacles and it is scrunched down in the hole that i placed it in. should i be worried? is this normal? i read the anemone faq but i didnt see this behavior mentioned
  2. well dan doesnt believe in a break in time and i must say my skimmer pulled out more crap when it was new left over from the other skimmer than it does now. i believe it refers to the biofilm that develops on the inside of the skimmer body.
  3. the shrimp are likely screwed so you better feed him well cuz if he gets hungry or mad they are done. also though this trigger is not a decorating fish he will dig a hole under a rock to serve as his lair. now that he has his hole he will not bother things again.
  4. i would recommend you do some research on them first as they get very large and are apt to aggression like the sohal tang
  5. how is the clown tang. aggression and health?
  6. that brings up something i was thinking about. i have a dsl connection but my controller is near a wireless access point not a router. there is only a usb connection so i imagine my connection would only work with a game adapter? sorry for the hijack but i figured it was a good question for others
  7. like chip and i said. you will thank us especially if you are getting a discount. i have a light fixture with moonlights and thats 4 already. it fills up FAST
  8. well you will likely need another dc 8. maybe an orp probe if you plan to run ozone. also if you have dsl internet you will need a game server
  9. i have a 250 watt crap heater as a back up that i could take offline for the day if needed. lmk
  10. i have a frag of candy coral but not the brilliant green kind. if someone wants a free frag they are welcome or i can donate it to one of the school tanks.
  11. does anyone keep a cucumber with hermits or other aggressive inverts successfully?
  12. thanx guys its up and running.
  13. they call them slip unions. the pieces that came with the unit. they slide into the unit so that you can put pvc fittings in them. no water flow control
  14. thanx. i found the owners manual and it says glue them as well. hold them down means that the water flowing through it pushes the bushings or slip unions up.
  15. i am putting in my current uv and i wanted to know should i glue the slip unions to hold them down or should i use something else
  16. i clean my pumps monthly. in fact i need to do it today. it is good advice because i lost a mag 7 not cleaning it like i should
  17. i use calcium chloride from dowflake though purity has recently become an issue. tetra has a calcium chloride product. dose in a high flow area but away from power heads and heat sources. well my water volume is about 220 gal and it is a medium stock but i run kalk and i dose calcium and alk in a 2 part recipe. but i would say you can start with a 1/4 cup of both and see where your levels are. also make sure you check alk more often as it fluctuates more often then calcium.
  18. you want to run it in something that forces the water through itself. a phosban reactor is an example of this. you can stick the container in the sump. i run my carbon 24/7. though some run it for less. i use dan's fluid reactor to run it. yea any container will work if you through the carbon in some filter socks but it wont be as good as using a reactor. i definitely replace it and clean the reactor once a month. once the carbon is used it gets filled and you cant use it anymore. carbon absorbs organics and metals both good and bad. carbon is used to take things out of the water put simply. once the pores are filled they cant be used anymore and must be replaced. carbon cleans some things out of your tank that we strive to remove. it is a filtration method which can be incorporated as part of a larger scheme
  19. i just added a pair of fairy wrasses to my tank and i saw them monday night and tues afternoon but not since then. should i be worried? i didnt see them around the tank. i will test the ammonia today and see what it looks like.
  20. how much are the 40oz packs from AO. i was there the other day but i forgot. hard to find the larger packs of pe mysis but i will agree that my fish like it more than the jemco stuff. so once i am done i will switch to pe exclusively
  21. i guess a general question is why does it cost more than regular mysis. does it cost more to produce it or what? thanx
  22. it looks like sponge. i love how the pbt looks but they are so sensitive and ich prone. sorry about the tank this has not been a good year for many
  23. you got it. its actually better to start with all female rather than getteing a male with a certain number of females. if there is a female in the shipment that wants to get snappy you will have some dead fish to clean up
  24. if you have the means seperate them as they will kill each other until one remains. i got all females from brk and as they were deciding who would rule 2 or 3 were eliminated so if that happens with females good luck
  25. randy holmes farley wrote an article on reefkeeping.com about which supplements are worth dosing. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-04/rhf/index.php. it talks about how iodine is not necessary to dose. also another thing to look at if you grow macroalgae is to look at what he says about iron. i dose it and my algae does great.
