Why lettuce slugs don't survive in reef tanks

Because they do this:

These guys literally just decide to float around for a while, maybe a few times a day.  Perfectly healthy slug, just going for a drift.  After a few minutes, she slowly sank onto a patch of Bryopsis and started eating again.

Imagine what would happen with a Vortec in the tank.

It's kind of mesmerizing.

They just act and move like they are on mushrooms anyway. :smokin:

Or maybe they've got it all worked out.... man.

would they let go if they had the current though?

I don't know.  All I know is that these guys aren't very smart, and that people never have much luck with them in reef tanks.  I am assuming that they use the drifting behavior to get them to new patches of algae, but maybe they are smart enough to stay put when there is a current.

where do you guys get this music lol

It's from the menu at YouTube.  I just tried to find something that was a little spacy-groovy  :wig:

Another hint, don't leave the "Solar Sea Slug Blog" up on your desktop when sharing your PC in a videoconference call. You'd think I had porn sleaze up there with all the ribbing I have taken!

You are probably the only person who has actually been seen looking at that blog.

I tried putting a few in a tank many years ago. They lasted less than a couple of days as I recall. I was pretty convinced at the time that they either drifted into a powerhead or went over an overflow and, ultimately, into a return pump. Now I'm even more convinced.

<open scene: solar sea slug floating freely.>

"Look. I'm flying! ..... What? Wait! Oh, Noooooooooooooooooooooo!"

<fade to black.>
