You know we've all seen Breaking Bad, right?

Yes, my wife had the same feeling. Nice fine powder. Nothing but the best for my reef!

Love seeing polyps dancing in the wind on these small frags.

Great looking rock nems!

Thanks!

Hopefully people noticed the sexy shrimp on the right too.

Quick update!

Just maintaining now, will likely not look to add much if anything since I'm switching focus to my next build. I definitely have algae but luckily tank is not overrun. CUC is doing their job and weekly water changes are still the norm. Unless you look closely, the tank still looks pretty clean, luckily.

Alk is being maintained through wc's only at 7 to 7.5 ish dkh throughout the week. I see growth in the sticks, colorization is still good but always looking for better. NO3 still measures zero but we know that is not true so I've stopped measuring.

The sexy shrimp hops around and now is hosted by the BTA. It also likes to munch on my green slimer. I thought about moving the stick onto the frag rack but thought against it because I was afraid it was then going to go after some of the other fuzzier ones. I'm willing to sacrifice (really no choice) the slimer while I figure out how to train this little fella.

One of my 4 hermits got slaughtered by (probably) the other hermits. I was running out of larger shells so I got stocked up recently to avoid more future death by murder. Hermits are my most favorite. I can see them keeping the tank clean. Will also have them from now forward.

Had a couple of weeks of stringing algae, mostly on the back black wall and some on the sand. Not too bad and very manageable. Keeping up with the same maintenance schedule with a couple of extra scrubbing and siphoning it's all good again. Now very little, if any, visible algae. Everything else chugging along nicely, no change to any routine.

Still low ph (7.6 to  7.8) with the skimmer on at night to keep it from dropping too low. Alk from low to mid 7's between water changes. I don't measure anything else.

UNS 75s planning is coming along too. Tank still in the Pacific somewhere but still much to do. This image shows the plan for the stand (reinforced and modded Ikea Havsta), 80/20 for the 2 lights and how the light spill will be. Excited!

Looking good, Jack.

Why building out a new tank? Why not just go ham on this one?

Thanks Isaac!

Why? I'm not sure I have a single reason. It probably boils down to a few things. 1) I have the urge and just want to and 2) I enjoy the planning, initial build up and starting more than the routine maintenance part of a tank. I'm also a bit limited because of the size of the current one. I've also always wanted to do the whole tank/sump/plumbing thing from scratch and by myself. I ran across these cool UNS tanks and the urge became too real. What can I say? Remember brad908 back in the day? I found a thread of his on nanoreef with the same tank (except he did a mangrove) and was sold.

Word.

Well, it's a great tank. Yeah, I remember Brad, we still keep up. He just started a new build on nano reef, but I remember the mangrove tank.

We may be talking about the same build thread. This one?

You see he has the same tank that I've ordered. I remember Brad to be a super chill guy. Obviously A++ on photography skills. It seems like he's moved around a bit.

A bit over 5 months old.

Weekly 25 to 30% water changes, change filter floss, clean glass. Pretty low maintenance. Colorization could be a bit better but corals are growing...Can't complain as I hardly do anything. Little to no nuisance algae.

Things are growing. Really! A bit too much green, should have planned stocking better. Chugging along nicely though. Easy to maintain, don't do much, everything healthy.

Sexy shrimp making an appearance. He's grown so much. Also in the photo is his favorite food, the green slimer in the background. He munches on polyps, slimer gets angry, slimer recovers, polyps get eating, rinse and repeat.

Nom, nom? I love this view of snails.

UNS 75s build in progress! Fun stuff.

Funny the shrimp goes after the coral, I've heard they eat the mucus on the anemones they're supposed to host in normally, so maybe it's the same sort of thing for corals.  They are fun little shrimp.

It's a cool shrimp for sure! Grown tons. I guess the slimer has good nutrition. It bothered me at first but not anymore. The slimer regenerates well enough so all good. I wish it would leave the BTA and go back to the RFA so my clowns to move in.

7 months and 20 days.

Broke tank down today. Transferred everything worth transferring to the new tank. Stressful but all went smoothly. I was looking back at my thread and personal logs to see how this tank did. Other than a bout with some fish disease that hitchhiked from buying snails from a system that also contained fish, nothing negative at all. All corals, anemones, shrimp and most snails (some original ones didn't last this long) made the trip across the room. The one coral I lost was because it got loose from the rock and dropped into the a black hole that I couldn't' get out.

Some quick cell phone pictures from before the breakdown below. It's hard to tell since SPS grows so slow but all have indeed grown. Zoas....meh.

looking good, excited to see what you do with the larger system.

I saw this thread about using IKEA for organization under the tank and thought of you.

Thanks! Don't know how I missed this thread but super cool. Funny as I was just at Ikea this past weekend. Love the place.

Yes....trying to wait a bit and let the transfer settle a bit before thinking of additions. I'm still trying to dial in flow, ph location based on the rockword. The right-side ph is slowly blowing my sand around leaving a sandless glass area just below it.

Eh, why not just post in my old thread?

Tonight's shot. New rock on right is slowly filling up.
