So I decided to take a trip to House of Tropicals today after class. I was looking forward to checking out a new store, and as it turns out its only 20 minutes from my school, so I was definitly hoping to have a good experience. Great selection of fish and corals.......but whats up with the prices????

Let me first say I'm not bashing the store, just giving my honest OPINION of my experience.

A small colony of maybe 6 yellow polyps for $50?? Medium sized carpet anemones over $100?? A small green bubble tip anemone for $99?? They wanted $30 for a scooter blenny! Their invert prices were ok. 12 blue legged hermits for $8, not bad, but get this..... $5.99 for a cerith snail!!!!! Yes, $5.99 for ONE cerith snail. But like I said, their fish selection was GREAT. Never seen so many Blue Jawed triggers before, but $89 for just one small trigger? Didn't Johnny offer a pair for that price?

Have I just been spoiled by BRK, F&F, and the other closer stores?? Either way, after seeing their prices, not to mention dealing with the complete frustration from the staff of 14 year olds, I don't see myself going back there any time soon. I'll definitly give them another shot because who knows, they could've ordered from a new distributor or something. I've learned from my experiences that I shouldn't boycott a store because of one negative trip.........but come on!!!! $5.99 for ONE cerith snail!!!!!!! I hope you boycott that store Johan!!

Yeah I feel much the same way about Vienna Aquarium and Pets. Hit or miss on prices. LR is something awful like $5-$12/lb. Even dry base rock I think they charge out at $2 or $3/lb. Fish prices are pretty high, etc.

I hope you boycott that store Johan!!

Now now, that's not nice though.

I figured charging$5.99 per cerith snail deserved at least one "not so nice" comment. Besides, I was looking out for a fellow member

I can concur with the expensive LR. They were charging $10 per lb for the "established" liverock. They did have some really nice pieces in the newer LR section. There was a flat piece that measured about 18"X18". Would've made a really nice shelf, but at $7 per lb it was probably around a $140 piece. Jeez. And no discount on LR

A good reason to keep supporting BRK and F&F. There is no need to buy anywhere else, perhaps browse other stores selections and bring ideas to Sean and Johnny so they can improve their stock.

P.S.

I do not receive commission or gifts from either F&F or BRK. I just support those who provide fair price, great service, excellent quality.

I couldn't agree more. I shopped at F&F last week, then hit up BRK yesterday. You know the prices are good when you don't even need a WAMAS discount. I think I'm scarred for life after seeing the $5.99 cerith snail.

Have you considered seeing anyone about this and getting on with your life?

I think F & F and BRK are really doing the hobby a favor by doing business the way they do.
