finaddict July 13, 2017 July 13, 2017 Has anybody taken a bag full of actual beach sand and used it in your aquarium? It seems like a cool idea to bring 10 or 15 lbs of sand home from our favorite beach and put it in the DT. Any drawbacks?
madweazl July 14, 2017 July 14, 2017 Our aquarium in Okinawa used beach sand and rock collected from the ocean. I had some awesome hitchikers!
gmerek2 July 14, 2017 July 14, 2017 . Be careful as it can have sunscreen and toxins in it if it if it's from a busy beach. Sticks, algae dirt, I would just pay for the stuff at the store
Origami July 14, 2017 July 14, 2017 Remember, beaches like those in the Caribbean and in Okinawa are largely composed of aragonite (basically coming from eroded coral and similar skeleton-forming animals). Beaches around these parts are largely silicate (quartz) sand. There is some thought that aragonite sand offers a bit of pH buffering potential.
