My DIY down draft skimmer is old enough to drink

I built this new type of skimmer 21 years ago and still use it to this day.

I copied it from a picture I saw in a new, at the time,  magazine called Aquarium Frontiers.

It was not even in production yet but the inventors had put a pic and interview in the magazine.

It still ROCKS today on my 400g system.

Brings back memories! I also had one of these built as well. It was 6 feet tall, loud as H-E-double hockey sticks, but unbeatable performance.

I built a "muffler" for mine. It is basically an expansion chamber inline attached to the air intake.

If you go to Marine Scene, they are still using their original (not cloned) ETS DD skimmers on the systems from 20 odd years ago.
