Bruleyii January 18, 2016 January 18, 2016 So it's a little far out but it looks like we might get dumped on Friday with a bunch of snow. What happens with the meeting if that is the case?
Origami January 18, 2016 January 18, 2016 In most cases, David, we go on with the meeting if the roads are open and if the meeting site is open. If the school is shut down, we will either try to find a last-minute, alternate site or we will have to cancel / reschedule.
Bruleyii January 18, 2016 Author January 18, 2016 Good to know. Thank you. Time to find someone with 4 wheel drive! lol
Origami January 19, 2016 January 19, 2016 Everybody, please be aware that we're looking into this and tracking the situation closely. One primary indicator will be whether or not Fairfax County Public Schools shuts down their schools to public functions on Saturday. This will most often occur if FCPS cannot get plows in to clear the parking lots or staff in to open & close the facilities. In the event that the schools are closed, we'll either have to reschedule or relocate. We are examining options at this time and will communicate with the community as we know more. At this time, we have a flight scheduled and hotel reserved for our speaker (James Fatheree), and we've paid for the meeting space. If FCPS facilities are open, I'm assuming that the roads are open and the parking lots are clear. In that case, I'm presuming now that the meeting will go on as scheduled.
AlanM January 20, 2016 January 20, 2016 I've got my fingers crossed that the models are wrong and it will be a fizzle, but the WaPo is trying to get everyone riled up with predictions of snows of "historic proportions." I'm hoping for a meeting, but also making sure the generator is full of gas...
Origami January 20, 2016 January 20, 2016 The WAMAS Winter Meeting featuring James Fatheree is postponed. It should come as little surprise, with the weather we are expected to receive, that the Board has decided to postpone this Saturday's meeting. Over the last 24 hours, the Board and others involved in meeting preparations have been discussing the situation, including a date for a rescheduled meeting as well as the availability of our guest speaker. At this time, we are heavily leaning toward a new date of Saturday, February 20 for the Winter Meeting. We are still working to confirm rescheduling of our speaker and may, if the situation dictates, feature a different speaker for this meeting. Additional information will be posted as the situation becomes more clear. Thank you.
gws3 January 20, 2016 January 20, 2016 Great job by the WAMAS staff keeping an eye on the weather and making the call a few days out to postpone the meeting. This makes it so much easier to plan ahead and not have to wait until last minute to deal with everything. Thanks for all your hard work!

Rob A January 20, 2016 January 20, 2016 Rescheduling works great for me! I will have to plow snow at my school so I wouldn't have been able to attend, which means I had to put off buying ay corals or anything as well.
gws3 January 20, 2016 January 20, 2016 And now we can expect encrusted frags ? Right? That's right! And hopefully some updated pics on other pieces I can frag. I bought a new DSLR last year, a 70D, and have barely had a chance to use it. I've been buried in a kitchen renovation, but that is finally wrapping up. Being snowed in this weekend will be a great opportunity to play with the camera and fish tanks. I'll try to take pics of the 300DD as well. It is finally starting to take shape, and transitioning from the embarrasing phase to frag city.
