Research STN. There are a ton of factors. I think alkalinity stability is the most important. It also helps if it is encrusting and healed when putting SPS in tank

tiny frags usually have a poor survival rate

+1. Fresh cut frags like this are vulnerable. You may want to frag it again to isolate just the good tissue and hope for the best with an even tinier piece.

 

I've had some luck with iodine dips for corals in this condition, but it can be hit or miss.

 

Also check your alk levels to make sure they're acceptable.
