Guest Nuhtty March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 I can across Roozens website and from what it looks like they have a good variety of livestock. My question is, would it be worth the trip down there to check out some of their clams and less common anemones? Thanks.
dhoch March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 If you are willing to drive I would recommend going to Dr. Macs... vs Roozens. Depending on what you like you may not be happy with roozens (there conditions for keeping critters is not the best ... in my opinion). Dave
gastone March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 Roozens can be a bit of a touchy subject in some circles. I however enjoy a visit to Roozens. They don't exactly cater to hobbyist though. A well educated, informed hobbyist could find some nice stuff there, though some would say that a well educated, informed hobbyist wouldn't go in the first place. Good luck. Garrett.
Caribbean Jake March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 I agree with Garret,, and although I consider myself an educated informed hobbyist, I still swing by once a year to see critters I don't see in LFS around Reston/Herndon area (50 mile radius).
rocko918 March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 Not worth the trip!!! if you like seeing alot of different fish in little hang on the tank plastic cups and many fish mixed in 10 gallon tanks. Alot of sick fish, if you buy something from there you HAVE to put it in a q-tank for at least a month and treat it!!! There lack of attention to customers and overall look of the place is poor. They do have a very large selection of fish, i do believe they are a wholesaler for LFS. If you are going to make it out this way go to Doc Mac's!! This is my opinion from a few trips there. I have never bought any livestock there.
Caribbean Jake March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 well, I got my Leopard Wrasse and Lime Montipora Capricornis Verrucosa from Roosen about a year ago and they are doing great in my 135G, on the other hand I got a RedCap Blemmy that didn't last two days. I then bought a Eastern Somalia Blue/Purple Zoo that has been growing crazy in my tank and probably was the culprit of my red flat worm debacle... but again I didn't acclimate or quarantine so blame it on me not on them. based on those experiences, I will say it is a try at least once, and then form your own opinions. By the way Rossens supports WAMAS with gifts and certificates on our quarterly meetings.
Jon Lazar March 30, 2006 March 30, 2006 I stop by Roozens every couple of months. I've found a couple of gems there in the past, by not so much lately. Jon
extreme_tooth_decay March 31, 2006 March 31, 2006 Hiya, I know others don't agree but... I've been to Roozens and Dr. Mac's several times. I don't think there's much comparison. Roozen has much better selection. Sure, he keeps some of his fish in small containers, and some of his fish are sick, but his selection can't be beat. His prices are decent (Dr Mac's prices are higher). IMO, his number of sick fish isn't really that high, and call me insensitive, but seeing some of the fish in small containers dosen't bother me. The only thing worth the drive to Dr. Mac's is the live rock. He's got the best price on Tonga rock anywhere. It was 2.69/lb last time I was there. I snagged a really cool, twisted 40 pound rock with holes in it. tim
Guest Nuhtty March 31, 2006 March 31, 2006 Thanks for all the responses! I think I will save it as a "stop in and see" when I am in the DC area again...I have a friend down there. I have been to Dr Macs before and definately plan on going again. Thanks again everyone!

I have been to Dr Macs before and definately plan on going again. Thanks again everyone! Well, I just have to throw my name into the hat. If you make it to the DC area come and check us out, we are not as big as roozens, and not as high tech as Dr Mac's but we have great livestock, and dry goods with reasonable prices. We are near completion of our frag / coral 260 gal tank set up . Check out out web site for more info. I am a WAMAS member that became a retailer within the past 6 months. John www.blueribbonkoi.com
dschflier March 31, 2006 March 31, 2006 I work not far from Rozens and frequently visit their store. I have always been pleased with the selection. I have felt some places may have some better equipment but I have always been very happy with the selection.
