ErikS April 8, 2004 April 8, 2004 do you guys get these massive tanks in the house? I mean 300lbs & up? (I imagine a 200+g weighs 500+) Is there a moving company that deals with this type of thing?
SDBDRZ April 8, 2004 April 8, 2004 Lots of friends. Seriously when I moved my 180 into our basement Ihad 4 people help me. It was a little tough getting it down the steps but not too bad. I could easily get a longer and wider tank down the steps, would just require a few more friends :D

Next time he will also have to invite Rosco & Cletus. tng [we just tease scott cause he lives out in the country, a long way out] Nice tank Cooter So when you going to put a bigger tank in your basement? [nana] dibs on the 180
eddi April 8, 2004 April 8, 2004 That's why I went acrylic. I have a 360 gallon and moved it in my basement on my own. The delivery company left it at the end of my driveway in a crate and I did the rest. Not the easiest thing in the world but obviously doable. And no, I did not choose acrylic because I don't have enough friends willing to help! Really!
ErikS April 8, 2004 Author April 8, 2004 Okay, so it was a dumb question. And no, I did not choose acrylic because I don't have enough friends willing to help! Really! Exactly, I can see asking golfing buddies - "what, are you on crack?" or "what do you mean it ain't for swimming?" And you guys should remember, some of us folks are aged :D
xeon April 8, 2004 April 8, 2004 I moved my 75 gallon AGA by myself a few times before I actually put it in the wall. I even put it in the wall twice doing some final fittings with my wife's help, she's pretty tiny at a smidge over 5'. LOL, you could call this almost by myself, but once it was on the ledge I could slide it in w/out much trouble. I did have some friends help when I bought it and put it in my basement and when I took it to The Reef Tank to get it drilled. At 99lbs. and 4' long it was about all I'd want to handle by myself. Larger tanks require a few more hands, I've helped move a few myself. If I get a larger tank one of these days, I'll throw a few steaks on the grill and call up some people.
krish April 8, 2004 April 8, 2004 It appears that the AGA tanks are lighter relatively speaking. My 120G by glass cages has no bracing. It is all euro bracing. This means extra glass in the bottom and top, in addition to the overflow boxes. I had to get 4 people to move it. 2 of these were folks who do physical labour for a living, so i got lucky. If i could, i would try the acrylic the next time. -krish
Grav April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 Eddi, ANY TIME you want to upgrade, I'll help you move the old tank out and the new one in. Seriously, yer not done expanding are you?
ErikS April 9, 2004 Author April 9, 2004 If I get a larger tank one of these days, I'll throw a few steaks on the grill and call up some people. Well if you ever go bigger give me a shout - up to 8' feet long & 1,200 I can haul it [ws] My 120G by glass cages has no bracing. It is all euro bracing. This means extra glass in the bottom and top, in addition to the overflow boxes Exactly, I got a quote from them for a tank. An AGA 120 weighs in @ 216lbs - the glasscages tank (a bit shorter & longer) clocked in at an estimated 300lbs bo
eddi April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 Phil and Eric, I will make sure to keep you in mind for any future expansions but somehow I don't see that happening anytime soon. Iactually wouldl ove to get another 360, I even have he room for it and a GREAT location, but the wife has killed that idea. And despite this obvious character flaw, I kind of like her. I am working on her, but I am not optimistic.

I am working on her, but I am not optimistic. Be thankful, I'm still working on a small tank. I keep getting "why don't you just move your 38g into that spot" 48] Yeah, that's just what I want to do, keep the same tiny tank. I tell ya "non-hobby" people are a tough sell, they just don't fathom having an interest in something.
Guest tgallo April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 man you guys are whipped, do what i did, get the tank when she or he is out of town, then it's to late to return it.

Maybe my memory is off, but didn't you get your 350 pre marriage - guess she accepted it cause she still closed the deal with you. :D I get the old roll of eyes when I talk bigger tank. My atlantic blue tang is getting too big for my 125. Wife says the fish needs bigger tank. I say sure, as soon as you let me get a 300g. Then I get the above mentioned eye roll and the "Haley, your father is spending all your college money on his fish tank" When Tony gets his 700, maybe he will cut me a deal on his used 350 [nana]

Then I get the above mentioned eye roll and the "Haley, your father is spending all your college money on his fish tank" Sounds like my house Back when the tank crashed I mentioned that I was thinking about tearing the tank down & switching to freshwater I got the "uugghhh...those fish are soooo ugly" stare. This from the person who thinks I'm nuts to spend money on a bigger tank. What I want to know is who removed the logic gene from the females of the species & how do we get it restored?
Lee Stearns April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 Eddi- Ill help if you upgrade- just cn't imagine what you'd upgrade to after a 360G. But your spouse is looking for a nano- so betrween that and getting rid of the fresh water discus tank you have some leverage. LOL Regards, Lee
eddi April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 No, I doubt I am going to expand (however, never say never). By the way, I did not get rid of my fresh water tank, I just moved it because we redid our floors.
Guest reeffoto April 9, 2004 April 9, 2004 My neighbor and I moved my 150 in. I thought he would have learned his lesson after I asked him to help me move my hottub in. Getting the tank in wasn't to hard just a 2 foot drop. The hard part was getting it on the stand. When we got it in the room I went uh oh. The stand is up on blocks. So we had to lift it ap another 2' onto the stand. It was almost as fun as when I had an oceanic 180 in the same spot. I bought the 150 from Bendalat and he helped me move it from his basement about 100 feet to my truck.
Guest EmersonAly April 13, 2004 April 13, 2004 "What I want to know is who removed the logic gene from the females of the species & how do we get it restored?" I'm so sorry kind sir, but I must respond. I personally have had to explain lots of these same issues to my HUSBAND. I have had to explain why starphire glass is necessary. bo Exactly what lifereef means and why it continues to drain our existing cash flow. 51] I don't think its just women - its non-reefers. Maybe we could form a club - Nonreefers anonymous. I don't know - all I know is I've learned firsthand how to make a grown man cry. Just start buying reef equipment! Actually, I have the cure. Get them as hooked as you are (but I warn you - thats a problem also, with two of you spending - there is only so much to go around)! PS. Always glad to help with my crew if someone upgrades. Love to see those new systems! emerson

Never happen where I live, not much chance w/ a person who can't fathom why anyone would have a "hobby".
Guest EmersonAly April 14, 2004 April 14, 2004 Gosh is this supposed to be a hobby? I thought it was an addiction! :p
ErikS April 14, 2004 Author April 14, 2004 Gosh is this supposed to be a hobby? I thought it was an addiction! Sssssshhhh....you're not supposed to tell anyone that, see ch 1, item XIV, para 3 in the reefer's handbook.

I'tll just take a second. Tee hee
