edress714 February 7, 2015 February 7, 2015 Hello I just got my bubble tip. after 2 hours of acclimation I placed him where I think is best. With the power heads on it starts to lift and I don't want it to fly away. So I turned both powerheads off. Is this how it's done? Please help! Thanks
madweazl February 7, 2015 February 7, 2015 You can leave them off for a bit so it attaches but chances are, it doesnt want to be there unless the flow is quite high and it physically cant do so. Give it about 20 minutes with the pumps off and see how it goes. Your idea of the best spot and the anemones rarely match.
John Ford February 7, 2015 February 7, 2015 one does not simply chose where his Anenomy hangs out. It will most likley move under a ledge or hide and then find where it wants to go, when it wants to go
edress714 February 7, 2015 Author February 7, 2015 Thanks for the quick replies. So 20 minutes off and still not attached. Is it ok for them to fly around then?
madweazl February 8, 2015 February 8, 2015 (edited) Just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt end up in one of the pumps (also watch for it getting near a heater if you have one in the display). Certainly isnt ideal for them to be floating around. Edit: if it has been 20 minutes and it hasnt attached, it is probably reacting to water parameters that do not meet it's needs. flooddc February 8, 2015 February 8, 2015 Built a small cage and put a small rock it the cage along with the nem. like this: Once it attached itself to the rock, then you can move it to where you like it to stay. Most likely will move away by itself. but at least it attached to a rock.
edress714 February 8, 2015 Author February 8, 2015 Well that's pretty smart lol what material did you use for the cage?
flooddc February 8, 2015 February 8, 2015 Costco's plastic nut container. Cut out 3 sides, drilled bunch of holes on bottom. Then use zip ties with 1/4" netting. I used (stong) magnet to hold the container to the tank.
gmerek2 February 8, 2015 February 8, 2015 I don't know if this is a good method but I'm 3 for 3 with getting nems to stay in one spot. Pick a medium to low flow area with medium light. I poked them down in a crevice and once in a hole and they stayed put. Does it have a healthy foot? Sometimes people don't let them heal long enough before selling. Chucks nut container will work well too.
edress714 February 9, 2015 Author February 9, 2015 Great! After it flew down I tucked him back in there and left the power heads on. Attached right on!
edress714 February 15, 2015 Author February 15, 2015 Son of a @$%#&! Sorry for the language but I wake up and see the tank is cloudyyy. Guess what? Power head has the bubble tip. :( do I just let the tank work it's way to clean itself or do I need to do something?
John Ford February 15, 2015 February 15, 2015 If you ever hear of someone saying a nem nuked my tank. Thats what they are talking about. Get it out and do a major water change and hope everything makes it~
madweazl February 15, 2015 February 15, 2015 Vac out as much of it as you can get and as mentioned, prepare for some large water changes.
edress714 February 15, 2015 Author February 15, 2015 25 gallons out and changed. Filter cleaned and new carbon put in. Water is starting to clear up. Was super cloudy. One thing I've noticed is the hermit crabs and snails are standing still :( All corals are staying put and not coming out. Just the gsp is starting the come out
monkiboy February 16, 2015 February 16, 2015 sorry if I missed it but what size tank? did you have foam covers on the powerheads? my experience has been that an anemone that doesn't attach rather immediately is stressed or isn't at peak health.
edress714 February 18, 2015 Author February 18, 2015 It's a 75 gallon. I don't have anything over the power heads. What can I put on them? I have two koralias
madweazl February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 They make foam socks that can be placed over the impeller preventing inhabitants from getting hacked up.
